Anyone "local" interested in going in on an order of Chaffhaye?
I need to order 4 pallets to get dealer pricing of $15/bag a pallet is 30, 50 lb bags. I only need 2 pallets for my ewes when lambing. Cost would then be $450 per pallet, selling whole pallets only. So there would be 2 pallets (or can get more) available. I would need a deposit to order.
I am in Loyal WI and will be able to load with skidsteer.

Got the girls down a bit further in the creek bottom (there is a really nice acre of pasture across the creek) this weekend with another larger bridge Darrin made. About 15 of 20 crossed it right away, but with all the rain and now more rain again today we need to make more pathways. Frustrating.

Today is the first time in June we have had a stretch of 3 days and no rain! And I'm not talking about sprinkles every other day, I'm meaning last week we had 7". The week before about 3, more before that. Our yard felt like walking on a wet sponge and the house dogs were confined to the gravel area for most of June.
Much of the corn in the immediate area is under 6", many farmers, even top of the line farmers don't have all their corn in the ground yet. With this "dry spell" they are torn between corn or trying to get their forage crops off, by now it should be 2nd crop alfalfa if you're putting it in the bunker, but some never got off their 1st cutting yet. Just a bad time in Clark County area.
Bonus...the pastures look good.

I love when moms and adult daughters keep their bond. Beth and Oreo, both were batsh*t crazy as lambs but as they freshened as yearlings they realized I provide food and am pretty awesome 😆.

The flies are really bad here this year, was predicted by our really mild winter and very wet weather we've had all spring. Regular flies, biting flies, just all of them and it hasn't even gotten to the bad hot weather yet.
Took pitty on the sheep and we put plastic chains on everyone (the adult ewes already wear a name tag, the keeper ewe lambs got their their nametags a bit earlier than normal), even the meat wethers and tied on a Cylence cow ear tag to everyone. Hopefully it offers some relief.

So we picked up a new herdsire to use this fall (along with our Grandpa's Farm ram, Joe). This is Ringo, a nice 3 yo that's got some great genetics. He's a solid boy. Not the tallest, but I like the width, topline, feet and legs, good temperament too.

The pastures are good with the crazy amounts of rain we are getting, that's about all I can say about rain. Locally it's a big struggle for the crops. Most farmers in the immediate area have less than half the crops in and are also trying to get 1st crop forage in, if it's hay and not haylage, there is no chance.

Most of the adult girls are slicked out except my one ewe line is holding on to some fuzz yet.

To my kunekune people...

Weird discovery today out in the back of our land. Found a kune skull from a 2.5 yo barrow that we butchered about 5 years ago. About 1.5" of tusk would have been visable out of the jaw (it's blunt as we trimmed tusks on the boys). The rest of that was all curled up into the jaw bone! Pretty crazy!

After years of having sheep I finally got my princesses to venture all the way down into the creek bottom and across the creek via a little bridge. Well ¾ of them and 1 lamb anyway. They think the grass is pretty fresh and tasty.
Gotta start somewhere!

Had to get serious about getting the girls down to the creek bottom pasture. So shut the gate on one pasture, fenced off the pasture and made a lane down to the creek bottom and theynare actually down there. Eating. Not acting like there are spooky sheep killing things every corner.

RESERVED!!! Decided to part with another ewe lamb. This one is from 2/15, 13.25 BW, twin. From my best maternal line. Pecan (brown) is the dam, Jimmy the sire, Mega (spotted) is full sister from 2023 who had twins as a FF this year and is over 180 lbs. This is gonna be a big ewe, 100% KHSI reg as always. She does have 2 very small brown spots. Loyal WI

The weather is sure all over the board. Had 70* last week and dry and now wind, cold and rainy. Everyone just hanging out in the barn today.

Back to rain or dreary weather since then but at least no snow in the forecast!

ALL 3 RESERVED/RETAINED. THANK YOU! Three really nice breeding quality ram lambs. I plan on keeping one of the brown ones but the black/white is available and the other brown will be. All will be KHSI registered.

FYI these are looking to be promising for quality breeding rams, they are not auction quality feeders. Sorry to point this out but everyone is looking for a 1OO ram this year. No. They are worth more than that at the local auction.

Shadow and unnamed ram were making use of a snack on the go. Beth got in the way of me throwing alfalfa and they found it a good snack.

Still soaking up the sun, dry weather and 65* days. Regularly scheduled weather to return soon.
