At our small senior horse rescue, we care for the horses that others often overlook—the ones who are no longer young, no longer rideable, but still so full of life and love to give. ❤️

Here’s the truth:
✨ The majority of these seniors stay with us for the rest of their lives because they’re not as “adoptable” as younger horses.
✨ Keeping them healthy and comfortable comes with the high costs of ongoing medical care, medications, and supplements.

Patch Needs A Foster Friend - Could It Be You?

Meet Patch, a sweet and steady older horse who is missing the love and companionship of a family. Patch came to us from a loving home where he was adored by his human kid buddies, but unfortunately, his family could no longer care for him. Now, he’s looking for a new family to call his own.

Patch may be a senior with a few quirks—like needing a grain mash diet due to some dental issues—but don’t let that fool you! He’s still full of life and ready to bring joy to the right home. Patch is a gaited horse, possibly a Tenessee Walker, and although some old age arthritis stops him from being a riding horse, he would still make a fun companion and ground work horse for those who enjoy how these beautiful horses move! Patch also absolutely adores being brushed and pampered, and he’s always ready to bond over some quality one-on-one time.

Morning feeding of the herd (Monday to Friday)

We’re excited to announce an incredible opportunity for our horses thanks to the generosity of the amazing organization Dover’s Chair! Aligning with their mission, they’ve offered to match every dollar donated in the month of September to Equine Outreach’s newly established Vet Care Fund up to $5,000. 🙌

Rescuing senior horses comes with significant, often unexpected, medical costs. From emergency surgeries to specialized treatments, these expenses can add up quickly. The Vet Care Fund will be dedicated to covering any medical costs outside of routine care, ensuring that we can provide the best possible care for our beloved senior horses, no matter what challenges come our way.

Meet Paige! From rescue to resilience—Paige’s journey is a testament to the power of patience and love. Twelve years ago, this beautiful thoroughbred mare was among 80 horses seized from a neglectful racing scheme. Injured and malnourished, Paige was given a second chance at Equine Outreach.

While her companions found homes or lived peacefully at the rescue, Paige remained, overcoming deep-seated fears of being handled. Our dedicated team, led by our skilled ranch manager, worked tirelessly with her, transforming her fear into trust. Now, Paige can be haltered without distress, receiving the vet care and hoof trims she needs to thrive.

Paige’s story is a shining example of hope and the difference that patience and compassion can make. 🐴💖

A warm welcome to Shiny (left) and Honeybee (right), our newest arrivals from the Deschutes County Sherriff’s Department rescue ranch. These beautiful horses were part of a 15-horse neglect case earlier this year, and after 3 months of recovery, they’re finally here! Honeybee, a 20-year-old Paint, and Shiny, a 20-year-old Palomino Quarter Horse, are now ready for their new chapter.

These orphan rescues take huge resources in both time and money but when you see them as healthy young adults in their new forever homes it's SO worth it all. Any amount helps 🙏

We do not know what sort of trouble this little one found, but at 2.5 months old she managed to fracture her mandible and 4 upper molars at the jaw bone.

Her injuries have already started to heal, so they’re not new and she’s developed an infection on the left side of her face, likely from the broken teeth and is being treated with antibiotics. Her teeth thankfully and hopefully will just fall out as her adult molars come in. She’ll get another round of X-rays in 6 weeks to check on the fractures healing processes and will be closely monitored between now and then.

She’s otherwise sweet as can be and just a joy. Dare we say tough as nails!!!

Her overnight hospital stay, rads, bloodwork, meds, and mare’s match are $2,000
