A warm welcome to Shiny (left) and Honeybee (right), our newest arrivals from the Deschutes County Sherriff’s Department rescue ranch. These beautiful horses were part of a 15-horse neglect case earlier this year, and after 3 months of recovery, they’re finally here! Honeybee, a 20-year-old Paint, and Shiny, a 20-year-old Palomino Quarter Horse, are now ready for their new chapter.

Join our Mane Membership to support Shiny and Honeybee directly. Your monthly contribution will help with their feed and medical care, and you'll receive updates on their progress. Thank you for making a difference! 🥰

These orphan rescues take huge resources in both time and money but when you see them as healthy young adults in their new forever homes it's SO worth it all. Any amount helps 🙏

Please welcome our 4th orphan of 2024 ……..Siratcha. Siri for short
❤️‍🩹🌶️ ❤️‍🩹

We do not know what sort of trouble this little one found, but at 2.5 months old she managed to fracture her mandible and 4 upper molars at the jaw bone.

Her injuries have already started to heal, so they’re not new and she’s developed an infection on the left side of her face, likely from the broken teeth and is being treated with antibiotics. Her teeth thankfully and hopefully will just fall out as her adult molars come in. She’ll get another round of X-rays in 6 weeks to check on the fractures healing processes and will be closely monitored between now and then.

She’s otherwise sweet as can be and just a joy. Dare we say tough as nails!!!

Her overnight hospital stay, rads, bloodwork, meds, and mare’s match are $2,000

As always, thank you for being there for these orphan foals.

If you would like to Help 🙏💛🫶

You can contact and donate towards her bill.

Though there is so much beauty in giving senior horses a second chance in life, this part is the most difficult. After a long battle of many health- and age-related issues, BonBon made her journey over the rainbow bridge last month 🌈 At nearly 30, she proudly held the torch as our most senior herd member but would never let you forget she still had the ability to act like a horse half her age, running with grace and bucking with vigor when she gets excited.

BonBon came to us with a difficult past, including the Powell Butte racehorse scam. For the last 15 years, she's lived a life of full of peace and love among her fellow herd members, and made best friends in Maggie, Blue, and Toby to name a few. She became increasingly affectionate and loving towards us humans overtime and was gentle through the pokes & prods of the many medical treatments we had to administer in recent years. Many of you supported BonBon through her enucleation last winter, which gave her the gift of feeling the sun kiss of another spring.

We want to sincerely thank all of BonBon's supporters, for without you, giving her these years of kindness and care would not have been possible. Run free and without pain sweet girl. We can't help but smile knowing you're bucking and rearing up there 🐎

Tiny needs our community's help!

Meet Tiny, the resilient soul who found his way into the loving arms of EOI last December. Shortly after his arrival, we noticed a troubling lameness in his front limbs, prompting a thorough examination by our trusted vet at The diagnosis was heartbreaking: Tiny was grappling with severe and chronic navicular disease.

Navicular disease is an incurable and painful bony and soft tissue abnormality of the navicular apparatus that is within the hoof. It is progressive over time and in the earlier stages it can be managed with appropriate treatments however we knew that Tiny's was quite severe. Despite our best efforts, including rounds of specialized shoes, injections, and the administration of Osphos, a potent treatment used in human osteoporosis cases, relief remained elusive. EOI invested $4,500 in our unwavering commitment to Tiny's well-being. Now, faced with the reality of treatment failure, we're turning to you, our community, for support. Tiny's next hope lies in a neurectomy procedure, offering him the chance of a more comfortable existence. 🙏 With an additional $3,500 needed for his surgery, every contribution brings us closer to easing Tiny's pain and ensuring he enjoys the life he deserves. Let's rally together and make a difference in Tiny's journey! 💕

Meet Kevin!

Kevin has been volunteering at Equine Outreach for about 2 years! While he might not admit to having a 'favorite', Tiny and Toby hold a special place in his heart. Tiny avoided Kevin for nearly two months, but now he eagerly seeks his attention. And Toby... what's not to love? Kevin's favorite part of volunteering is feeding the horses.

Thanks to dedicated volunteers like Kevin, our horses have a safe place to call home!

Have you met the beautiful Black Pearl? 🐴

This part-Arabian horse is one of EOI's youngest and the only one that has been with us since she was just a foal. She has Wobbler Syndrome which is a compressed and damaged spinal cord in the neck resulting in instability at times. But that doesn't stop Pearl from being a very active horse and romping with her friends. Pearl is currently fostered along with Harmony, in the most beautiful setting by the most loving family. She entertains her family regularly with her spunky personality and her avid attempts at a full roll over!

➡ Are you interested in fostering one of our special herd members? Our unique foster program is full support, meaning we cover all feed, supplements, medical and farrier care for up to one year. You provide the love & care and get some back in return! 🤠

EXCITING NEWS! 🐎

We have new faces at the ranch! Have you become acquainted with Devon & Tiny yet? These sweet guys are our two newest members of the herd and you have the opportunity to be their special human by becoming a Mane Member!

➡️ Devon was surrendered to us in January and has Wobbler syndrome, so was at risk of not being able to find a new home.

➡️ Tiny was at risk of being in an unsafe situation so we worked with the Sherriff's department to give him a soft place to land right away.

What's Mane Membership? A recurring monthly donation in an amount of your choosing that goes towards your horse's feed and care. As a Mane Member, you will get exclusive benefits and updates on your sponsored horse or mule. Learn more at equineoutreach.org/join

For those of you missing Toby's face, here he is 🥰 He had to take a couple of unwanted vacations from his ranch manager duties due to the quarantine needs of our new herd members. Because retirement just isn't for him, he took that time to take extra good care of his roomy BonBon, but he's happy to be back at work making rounds!

We've been observing something pretty sweet happening lately - Paige showing Java how nap time works. Paige, in her long time herd of thoroughbreds out in the largest pasture, has been accustomed to keeping watch for the rest of the herd and resting while her sisters took their turn. Java came to us slow to trust and kept her distance at first. What a sweet girl Paige is to welcome Java into her space so lovingly and make her feel safe ❤🥹

When you are afraid, let me teach you to trust.
When you are weak, let me help you build strength.

When you want to give up, let me show you how far you can go.

09/02/2024

It is with great sadness that we must share the loss of a legend. Sassy, our unicorn, succumbed to a serious health complication in the last weeks. There aren’t enough words to describe our heartbreak or the enormous presence that Sassy had at the rescue, but here goes.

If you’ve visited Equine Outreach, or have volunteered with us, chances are you found it hard not to instantly connect with Sassy. She was part of the large group of Thoroughbreds rescued from the horribly neglectful racehorse scam in Oregon in 2009. She lived happily at the ranch these last several years as a member of our 'Bigs' herd, along with Paige, Rose (adopted), Violet (adopted), and CJ (forever in our hearts). As her herd grew smaller, Sassy took on the watch responsibilities, ensuring that her sister Paige got her naps. Most recently she formed a bond with another long-time herd member Java, our Warm Springs mustang, but still enjoyed having Paige right over the fence. Despite a history of mistreatment and her intimidating size, Sassy was gentle and curious. And once your trust was earned, she was unapologetically friendly, loving, and grateful for her second chance.

We would like to thank you all for your support of Sassy over the years in every form, whether it be a donation, a visit, or putting in volunteer hours to care for her. While we feel the quiet of Sassy’s loss at the rescue, we know that her light will continue to shine on the herd and humans as she watches over us. Rest easy, Sassy girl.

There's a new friendly face at the ranch! 😍

Meet Devon! Devon is a handsome Arabian in his late teens recently surrendered to us. Devon has Wobbler Syndrome, a degenerative neurological disorder that can cause poor balance. He's come to the right place as we already have two Wobbler's in our care - Maggie & Black Pearl. We are thrilled to give this sweet boy a soft place to land as horses with this condition can be difficult to find homes for. So far, Devon is showing off his very friendly & curious personality and we love it!

Devon will soon be available for foster or adoption, but due to his condition, cannot be ridden. In the meantime, Devon can use a few sponsors to help cover his feed & care. For as little as $10/month, you can be Devon's special human. Learn more at equineoutreach.org/join. Thank you! ❤🐴
