We recently had the pleasure of welcoming incoming Broward County Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis to Broward County Animal Care! Commissioner Davis toured our facility, met with agency leaders, and engaged in meaningful discussions about how we can collaborate to improve service and animal welfare in our community.

Her visit underscores our shared commitment to providing compassionate care and innovative solutions for our furry residents. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to working together to make a difference.

Thank you, Commissioner Davis, for your support and dedication to Broward County’s animals.

A very good girl is looking for a home! 🐶💖✨

Due to familial circumstances, Stella (A2047920) was surrendered to our shelter 5 years after being adopted.

During her time in her last home, Stella blossomed into a *stellar* dog, learning many neat tricks such as “sit,” “paw,” “down,” and “speak.” She was housetrained and crate-trained with her previous family, and they said she was friendly with adults, children, and dogs.

Of course, being separated from her family has been scary and stressful for Stella. However, after spending a couple minutes with you, Stella quickly becomes an affectionate lovebug who enjoys cuddles, kisses, and hugs!

Can you give Stella a reason to be thankful by giving her a home for the holidays?

Stella is already spayed and microchipped and ready to go home the same day. Meet Stella for adoption or foster at Broward County Animal Care!

Broward County Animal Care would like to wish all Veterans a Happy Veterans Day!

We'd like to honor and acknowledge the Veterans who make a difference in the lives of the animals here at our shelter; our Ricardo's!

"I help find alternative placement for the animals in our shelter whether it's short or long-term foster care, Broward Buddies, or transfer placement to rescue groups. Every day is a rewarding experience as I love finding alternative placement for our shelter pets, and it puts a big smile on my face to see them leave to homes," said Ricardo Matallana, Foster/Transfer and Broward Buddies Coordinator. Ricardo served in the U.S. Marine Corps for nearly 5 years as a Disbursing Technician, an occupation that took him from Okinawa, Japan to Kansas City, Missouri.

Ricardo Ducosin is one of our Animal Care Specialists who work with cats, becoming our resident Cat Dad by hand-raising hundreds of newborn kittens until they are ready for adoption. Before becoming a foster hero, Ric dedicated 7 years in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman Transportation Journeyman, serving during the Gulf War.

Animal Care strongly believes pet ownership can greatly benefit your mental health. Here's what both gentlemen had to say on why having a pet is important for Veterans:

"Pets play an important role to veterans as they can help reduce symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, traumatic brain injury, and depression. They can also help veterans feel less isolated, and build an unwavering bond that facilitates their collective healing and recovery." -Ricardo M.

"Being part of the military we're used to developing close bonds. Out of the military, a perfect way to continue those bonds is to establish it with an animal! Being dependent on and of is a great mental health fulfillment." -Ric D.

Thank you both for your service, to our country and to our animals! 🐶🐱❤️

Meet Cypress! 🐶🐾🌲

Cypress (A2381781) is a lovable 4-year-old pup ready for his furever home! Cypress has been with us since May and is still patiently waiting to be adopted. 🥺

Cypress walks easily on leash, loves fetch, and just being a total ham. He appears to be housebroken and will let staff know when he's ready to go outside to go potty. Cypress loves people but is picky when it comes to other dogs and has not been tested with cats.

Cypress is available for foster or adoption at Broward County Animal Care…Come meet him today!
