thought i'd share..

It’s Cicada season and our pets seem to be drawn to these fluttery creatures falling from the trees.

Are cicadas dangerous? They can be. A dog that eats too many critters could choke, end up with a GI obstruction, or injury from the exoskeleton.

It is recommend that you not leave your pet unattended so that they can go to town and have a smorgasbord. Keep pets on a leash outdoors, so you can guide curious canines away from the cicadas. Owners can also practice redirecting a dog’s attention away from insects, using a treat as positive reinforcement.

And prepare yourself for the next right of passage in pet ownership, which is pulling a fluttering cicada out of your beloved pup’s mouth.

This is SO important, especially with our breed. They aren't as likely to be in the social butterfly category. They're more like humans in that they enjoy other dogs that they enjoy and want zero to do with those that they do not. It does not make them "dog aggressive" or "bad dogs."
If you're wanting a dog that will be BFFs with every other dog, this is not your breed. If you're wanting a dog that loves dog parks and play dates with abandon, look into another breed. Responsible dog ownership starts with knowing your desires and matching them to the breed, not trying to make the breed match your desires.
