With cooler weather approaching, make sure to double check all your heaters. From time to time, the motherboards will blow out without you noticing it over the summer. Check them now before it gets cold.
Heaters are one of the things, I believe you get what you pay for. it's easily forgotten about until it isn't working and as we all know too well, temperature change is one of the leading causes of fish and coral death.
And for those of you that don't run your heater through the summer, keep in mind that once the heater dries out, it starts to corrode so even if you don't have it running, it's best to leave it in the water.
To test your heater, wiggle the head of it, if it moves, don't use it.
If when you plug it in you hear a pop, or smell a burning smell coming from it, don't use it.. It's also a good idea to keep a close eye on your tank with-in the first 24 hours of plugging in a heater for the first time. If the heater starts to short, it could blow the circuit breaker.
Call us and ask us to check your entire system, we'll have it prepared for the cold weather.
