The more you stay on top of your training, your dog will continue to succeed!

Ask yourself these questions

Do you allow strangers and dogs to greet your dog? Doing so too often or at all will encourage a dogs excitment vs. training them to be neutral.

Are you physically and mentally fulfilling your dogs needs? Don't assume freedom in the yard is a replacement for exercise. Walks, play, and training allow your dog to exercise physically and mentally.

Are you maintaining a structured lifestyle for your dog? Too much freedom creates a "spoiled" dog, strucutre create a dog who knows the rules and learns to make acceptable choices.

Can you call your dog out when they do unwanted behaviors? While we don't look for perfection, it should be easy to remind your dog when they make mistakes, and they should be few and far in between.

Set your dog up for success by maintaining their training! Staying consistent will ensure lifetime success!

What do you have to adjust to make your goals to create the life you want with your dog?

Is it time? Money? Life adjustments? Trying a different training method?

Tools dont train dogs, good training from the human trains dogs. Slapping on a training tool (prong, ecollar, slip, harness, etc) without learning how to fairly and properly use the tool, will set you up for disappointment.

The tool likely won't solve the problem. Training is what's going to help the dog make sense of the tool, that can potentially help you.

- Learn why the tool is constructed in such a way
- Learn how to fit on your dog
- Learn best practices and techniques with the tool
- Learn what purposes this tool is used for
- Learn how to troubleshoot with the tool
- Don't just assume you know about the tool
- Seek out a trainer if needed

Don't feel defeated cause the tool didn't work. Learn about the tool and master the tool.

Need help? We help dog owners everyday find the dog training tools that will help and teach them how to fairely effectively execute it. DM us or visit our website.

Hi I'm Chloe! Owner and trainer at Rooted Dog Training. We've been in business for 7 years but I've been working with and training animals for nearly 20 years. My life has been absorbed in animals and nature. It's my true love and passion. Alongside it, I genuinely love teaching others about it.

While I've worked with a variety of animals, dogs have become the staple of my career. Why? Because we all love nature and dogs bring us the closest to it. They are a true gift that we enjoy to bring a sense of nature and companionship in our homes. Now more then ever we are treating dogs like family.

Due to the fact people are including dogs more in their lives, there's a great need for them to be better behaved.

❤️ Our mission here is to help as many as we can shape their young dogs to become well mannered dogs whom we can have a balanced relationship with, setup for a life of fulfillment and inclusion in our lives, and ultimately avoiding shelters filling up.

Trained dogs don't fill shelters. We need to be in prevention mode. It starts at puppy hood.

Today we have a variety of programs where you bring your dog to us for camp training or private one on one sessions. No matter the choice we ensure you have plenty of education yourselves because without you, there is no success. So if you see yourself as the committed owner who wants better for their dogs, more inclusion, and wants to do everything you can to set your dog up for success I want to talk with you! DM me. Tell me you saw this post and let's train. 👊

Did you get a dog and imagine the experience to be different than the reality? It happens to many. It happens to those who've had a certain breed in the past and expected the same dog. It happens to those who got a puppy and didn't realize how much work it would be. It happens to those who didn't know anything about the breed. It happens to those who imagined an everywhere dog, but their dogs' behaviors or temperament doesn't quite allow for all that they hoped.

Not all dogs are the same. Not all owners are the same. Not all of the same breeds are the same.

Every dog is an individual with its own personality. Each learns differently. Each is fulfilled differently. Each has its own positives, and each has its own challenges.

Disappointment may set in comparison to others is strong, and patience is tested when we didn't get what we thought.

It's okay to feel disappointed, but it's also important to look for the positives and get to work and see what potential and progress you can make over time. Yes, life adjustments may need to be made, training may be especially necessary, but with it, life can be amazing with your dog!!!

Most importantly, utilize the structured pieces to fit your lifestyle to be practical for everyday things. Here's some examples:

Crate when running errands
On place when cooking and eating
Sit calmly while you put leash on
Wait at thresholds to avoid bolting out the door
Heel on the wall, well so they don't pull you
Place while you work from home
Crate when you can't watch to keep them out of trouble
Supervise when free to keep them accountable to house rules

What other ideas do you see strucutre helping you and your dog?

These are common behavior issues that build in to worse behaviors. Luckily these can be addressed.

The reason why these behaviors are so common is because most dog owners give their dogs a ton of freedom.

Do you allow your dog too...
❌come and go as they please from inside and outside?
❌use doggie door?
❌free access to toys?
❌rush doors?
❌jump on you?
❌leave free when not home? (inside or outside)
❌bark out the window?
❌free furniture access?

If so, these are some contributing factors to teaching our dogs they can do as they please. This teaches them entitlement.

Entitled dogs don't know the meaning of "no" or have clarity about house rules or who's in charge so they do as they please. This builds into undesirable behaviors for many, some even unhealthy to the dog.

What can you do to improve your dogs behavior?

IMPLEMENT STRUCTURE.

❗Supervise freedom
❗Develop a structured crate routine
❗Crate when you cannot supervise
❗Develop house rules
❗"No" needs to have true meaning

I assure you the day you start structuring your dogs day you will see improvements.

Dog Training should be long-term successful. If it's not, there's clarity missing for your dog.

Practice the tips mentioned and you can achieve the kind of dog you always imagined:

✔️ a dog with little to no stress
✔️a dog that listens
✔️peace in the home
✔️ability to open up your world with your dog
✔️a respectful dog

It's all possible, if you just put in the time.

Want to have a steller puppy and take out the guesswork of how to?

Want a reliably obedient dog for the future?

Want to build a life of inclusion with your dog?

These are the kind of goals we help dog owners with everyday. it's not always easy, in fact, it takes serious commitment. But when all is said and done, the reward and benefits are quite amazing.

➡️ #1 tip: Don't do it alone. It's tough. When you have someone that's been there and has the knowledge to share, it's soooo much easier.

Many of my clients end their training in tears of joy. There's not much better than helping someone take the common struggles out of a journey and creating a beautiful life with someone they love.

Your journey doesn't have to be a struggle bus or have you feeling at a loss. There are answers and we've built a plan that has helped hundreds of dogs.

Drop your 2024 dog goals ⬇️ I want to cheer you on!

We of course want to encourage training! Why? Because so many want to do more with their dogs, like take them places, go off-leash, experience adventures together, travel, and of course have good manners. Well many of these modern activities we do with our dogs require a "good" dog. Soooooo, it's time to train.

So what is it that you want to train for your 2024 goals?

Practicing in more environments?

Getting a better heel? A more structured walk?

Being more regular about your walk?

Troubleshoot a behavior?

Whatever it is I hope you make the plans today for the steps to achieve it!

Do you exercise your dog physically and mentally on a regular basis? How so?

Busy schedules can inhibit us from staying consistent. But when we dedicate time for our dogs well being we can very likely help address the behaviors we so badly want to diminish.

All this to say though, these stimulating activities', will not resolve behaviors issues, but a fulfilled dog is less likely to find other ways to stay busy that you don't like.

Fulfill your dogs needs.

Here's some ideas:
1) 30 minute walk a day
2) 5-10 minutes of play (tug, fetch, search for food)
3) Train for food
4) Scent games
5) Obedience drills
6) A hike
7) Agility drills

Find things that your dog enjoys doing with you.

BTW, don't stress if you can't fulfill every need, every day. Your dog also needs to learn to not have to constantly be stimulated, REAL LIFE.

How do you fulfill your dog? Have you seen it help you keep your dog sane?

Great dog training takes time. Be patient, do your best, and enjoy the journey!

Wanna stop your dog from jumping on guests? ⬇️

Try these tips:

1) Keep a leash on the dog, to prevent or correct your dog from going near your guests upon arrival

2) Otherwise crating your dog is the most ideal. This prevents them from even practicing the arousal when greeting guests

3) Have practice sessions throughout your week to train the dog how we behave when guests come over. Like when hubby comes home from work- pretend he's a guest. He rings the bell, you welcome him in, etc.

This time of year brings lots of guests to our home. Be prepared and train the dog to make better choices. Grandma will appreciate it. 🥰

You need to know this before training >> You'll need more then only obedience commands if you want the following:

⭐A dog who makes good choices
⭐A dog who knows the house rules
⭐A dog who respects you
⭐A dog who seeks your guidance
⭐A well socialized and neutral dog
⭐A dog who can be calm

Sit, down, come won't help you achieve the above solely. Can they help or assist? Perhaps. But commands won't resolve behavior issues, you'll need more.

You need to learn how to also:

❤️Be a leader your dog respects
❤️Communicate using a language your dog understands
❤️How to implement structure
❤️Learn how your dog best learns

We are➡️ certainly obedience trainers here but, ➡️ we also help dog owners become true leaders for their dogs to work them though all that life throws at them.

We know that your dogs needs more then the "basics".

If you think you're ready for more then just the basics of obedience and truly achieve the best out of your dog, seek out trainers who can provide just that.

Real talk! If you're getting s puppy this holiday season, please read or share with a friend who is. Puppies are cute but... they can be quite stressful! Reality quickly sits in after the first few days. How can you prepare and avoid the common stresses of puppy raising?

Many of our clients are either preparing for raising their puppy or they are dog owners who have had enough and cant take the stress another day and are finally ready to do the work.

Please don't wait and live through chaos only allowing the behaviors to get worse and worse. Let's plan ahead and train early.

Training helps you AVOID:
❌stress
❌frustrating behaviors
❌expensive replacements of the things your puppy destroyed
❌potential surgeries or vet visits due to your puppies dangerous behaviors
❌poor potty training

Instead Enjoy:
⭐reliable communication
⭐confidence that you know what to do
⭐obedience
⭐your dog knowing the house rules
⭐ability to do more with your dog
⭐trusting your dog is fine when you leave the house
⭐beneficial management of your dogs day to day
⭐a true sense of control

Training early is just good common sense to set you and your puppy up for real success. Avoid the common stress, and instead have the confidence that your planning ahead so that the life you share with your dog will be the best it can be!

Train early. Contact your local trainer today, perhaps even before you bring puppy home to be super prepared.

We're here ready for ya.🤩

Do you let strangers pet your dog? Why? Why must we insist that this is okay?

Let me ask you, if a stranger started whistling at your kid, talking with an overly friendly voice, reaching out to shake their hand and pat their head, offer them candy, how would you feel?

A little odd? A little nervous? Like who the heck are you? This is strange. Yeah most people would be like, no! Stranger danger!

We should be the same with our dogs. No one has any business touching your dog, just like they have no business touching your kid, you, your purse, etc. When it comes down to it, your dog is your property. You have the right to say "no", and not be shamed for it.

And it must be said, strangers touching your dog serves no benefit to their training. In fact it could do the opposite. The only people and dogs that need to engage with your dog, are the ones who they spend time with on a regular basis.

Who's no longer gonna be ashamed for saying "no"?

Do you struggle working in time to train your dog? You're not alone.

What may be the hardest to hear from my clients is--- "Chloe, - face down- I didn't practice as mush as I wanted to, or worse, not at all".

While hearing this isn't always easy, because I know my clients want to see progress, the reality is "life happens". I'm the first to say I know its hard sometimes to make the time.

BUT!!! There's no possible way any of us will see true progress if we don't commit. Really commit.

You cannot expect your dog to listen to your commands if they are not getting the practice, nor see them make better behavior choices if we don't take the time to teach them.

Results from little to no practice:

❌No results at all
❌ Dogs are confused on the rules or commands
❌ You stay in kindergarten vs upleveling
❌ You stay stressed due to your dogs choices
❌ Your frustration builds
❌ Your dogs behaviors get worse

Always remember: The work you put in with your dog will absolutely always show. ❗️Whether good or bad.

Dog training takes commitment! 💪

We help our clients work through the bumps and help them work the time in without feeling overwhelmed. This doesn't mean sacrifices wont need to be made and that "it's easy", but it's not impossible.

What can you do now? ⬇️

1) Carve daily time to spend with your dog to train them something, even something simple
2) 4-7 walks a week
3) Implement 1-2 hours of crate time at a time during the day
4) Make a list of 3-5 house rules you want to teach your dog

Starting this can get you on the path of committing time, to not just spend quality time with your dog, but work them and teach them something new. - That's training!

If you want coaching on how to train needed behaviors we are here to help! Either way just start. You wont regret it.

Playing with your dog is the perfect opportunity to bond and build your relationship. The next time you go play fetch try incorporating these 3 tips to enhance your play time!

1. Teach impulse control by having your dog in a down stay till you release them to get the ball

2. Practice commands and use the ball as the reward

3. Work on recall by having your dog come to you before they reach the ball and once they sit in front of you release them.

What do you do to incorporate training into your play time?
