Last of the food went in the bowls tonight and we've only received one donation that will buy another bag (thank you RD). FB is limiting the reach of page posts now (only 168 views, if their stats can be believed...) and wants us to pay for ads that don't work so we need your help. Please share this around and help us reach more people.

Thank you

Last bag of food in the bin. Thank you to White Dog Ranch in Potter Valley. The cat TNR project has resumed after the holidays with 2 more getting "The Snip" thanks to the El Dorado Humane Society and Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode. 5hst makes 16 now but unfortunately a new one has shown up so there is now 5-6 to go?

Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Solstice, and New Year to all! Thanks to White Dog Ranch in Potter Valley CA we made it this far (they bought 2 bags of food and Christmas dog biscuits for the crew) but do need to buy feed now for both the sanctuary crew and the feral cat clowder for the coming month as we are down to a few days worth. Please go to our temporary page at https://Silkroadlgds.org/how-you-can-help to see how to help.

Well it's been about 12 days since our post about Enise working and needing dog food again. Unfortunately we only received a little help from personal freinds so had to buy cheap food (which makes for more work, and stinky at that. Wow.), which we are about out of. We know things are tight for many and scary for some but really need the help. Donate if you can, share if you can't. Anything helps

Hey! We made it another month so thank you. We also received a couple of weeks worth of cat food for our colony/clowder from our local Humane Society so that helps with that project.

Due to a medical issue with one of our own LGDs, we had to shuffle dogs around and Enise, the 11ish y/o Gampr who has been hanging in our compound with Ludo and the Floof and who has never been with stock in her life as far as we could tell, wanted in with the goat twins and Tanner the Turkish LGD - Pyr mix in their larger pen so figuring that she's past chasing we gave it a shot and she did great.

She loved it for a few days but decided she wanted her comfy dog bed so is done for now. Goes to show that while it's best to raise a working dog with stock, if you know what you are doing, have the right setup, and have the right dog, even a rescue can make a good LGD. Of course she wasn't expected to take on predators, just to be a presence while our female LGD was being treated for a skin issue. Her partner would do any heavy lifting, which wasn't likely to be needed.

We are also working with two separate owners to help them keep their problem child dogs, which we consider a way of doing rescue by helping them stay in their homes vs being given up.

In addition to that, we helped facilitate the rehoming of two CAO via the FB group so that feels good. Oh, and trapped 3 more feral kittens who now are awaiting the snip courtesy of our local Humane Society!

We do need more feed so please go to our temporary page (news on that hopefully soon) at https://Silkroadlgds.org/how-you-can-help

Thanks so much!

Meet TomTom (A1853024).

For more than 173 days, TomTom has been waiting at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter, hoping someone will finally see the gentle soul behind his timid eyes. Once a sweet and bright boy, the stress of overcrowded kennels has started to weigh on him, making him shy away from the world.

TomTom doesn’t need much — just patience, love, and a family willing to help him rebuild his confidence. With a little grace, he can blossom back into the happy, trusting pup he was meant to be.

Sadly, TomTom isn’t alone. Many of our dogs are experiencing the same heartbreak of long stays in an overcrowded shelter. We are in a critical space crisis, and every adoption makes a lifesaving difference.

Right now, all adoptions are fee-waived and include spay/neuter, vaccines, and microchip. TomTom and his friends are counting on the community to give them the second chance they so desperately deserve.

It is hard to believe that it has been four years yesterday since Isabella (aka: Izzy or Izzy Wiggles) joined us. She was relocated from Southern California, where she had been living in a condo and not doing well, as can be expected. Her previous owners wanted to ensure her well-being, so she came north to us. Although most of her issues have been resolved, at approximately nine years old, she is too old for placement. Consequently, she spends her days mostly sleeping as LGDs do, and her nights protecting some of the goats at our sanctuary. Surprisingly she has become highly effective LGD!

Speaking of which, we would like to remind everyone of the animals that remain at our sanctuary after we ceased active rescue operations. In addition to Izzy (a Central Asian), we have Ludo and the Floof (Caucasian Ovcharkas), Enise (Armenian Gampr), and the Pound Sterling littermates Simon, Stiver, and Tanner (Akbash-Anatolian-Pyrs). We also have the goats that had belonged to the Pyr rescue that we were spun off from that were used for livestock guardian dog testing and training, including Checkers, Blackie, Pirate, and Archie.

Furthermore, we are attempting to mitigate the issue of a clowder of abandoned cats, approximately fifteen in number (including two litters of kittens ranging from 4 to 6 months old), and are collaborating with the El Dorado Humane Society on a trap-neuter-return program. It is essential to note that none of these animals are our personal pets as was alleged a few months ago. Every dime raised goes for them and only them.

Thanks to the donations back in July, as well as a birthday present for one of our founders (Tractor Supply gift cards that were supposed be for tools and the like!), we had enough food to last until now. We are down to 5 days worth so please go to our temporary page at https://silkroadlgds.org/how-you-can-help/ to donate. Thank you!

We still have $356 due on Simon's bill at Black Oak Animal Hospital by Monday and they would like to get paid. We also just opened the last bag of dog food so have 3 days worth left. If you can help, please go to our temporary page at https://silkroadlgds.org/how-you-can-help/ to donate. If you can't donate (and we get it. Times are getting harder), please share.

Some puppy pictures as cute tax!
