It is hard to believe that it has been four years yesterday since Isabella (aka: Izzy or Izzy Wiggles) joined us. She was relocated from Southern California, where she had been living in a condo and not doing well, as can be expected. Her previous owners wanted to ensure her well-being, so she came north to us. Although most of her issues have been resolved, at approximately nine years old, she is too old for placement. Consequently, she spends her days mostly sleeping as LGDs do, and her nights protecting some of the goats at our sanctuary. Surprisingly she has become highly effective LGD!
Speaking of which, we would like to remind everyone of the animals that remain at our sanctuary after we ceased active rescue operations. In addition to Izzy (a Central Asian), we have Ludo and the Floof (Caucasian Ovcharkas), Enise (Armenian Gampr), and the Pound Sterling littermates Simon, Stiver, and Tanner (Akbash-Anatolian-Pyrs). We also have the goats that had belonged to the Pyr rescue that we were spun off from that were used for livestock guardian dog testing and training, including Checkers, Blackie, Pirate, and Archie.
Furthermore, we are attempting to mitigate the issue of a clowder of abandoned cats, approximately fifteen in number (including two litters of kittens ranging from 4 to 6 months old), and are collaborating with the El Dorado Humane Society on a trap-neuter-return program. It is essential to note that none of these animals are our personal pets as was alleged a few months ago. Every dime raised goes for them and only them.
Thanks to the donations back in July, as well as a birthday present for one of our founders (Tractor Supply gift cards that were supposed be for tools and the like!), we had enough food to last until now. We are down to 5 days worth so please go to our temporary page at https://silkroadlgds.org/how-you-can-help/ to donate. Thank you!
