Have you ever heard of the Name Game? Not only can it be the foundation for a great recall, but it is also a great way to create a positive association with you pup's name. All you have to do is say their name and feed them a treat! It’s that easy AND fun! Nala is three months old and learning all about her name while here at Camp with us.

What type of enrichment do you provide your pup?

In the first photo, Winnie was given a treat-stuffed paper towel roll. While she did not like shredding it (the most common way pups like to play this game), she did enjoy carrying it around with her!

The second photo is Boo; he loves to sniff (sensory enrichment), so we took him on a sniffy walk.

The third photo is of Watson; he has a high prey drive and loves to catch (but often will ingest, so it is not an activity he often gets to play). We figured, why not let him play with dog-friendly bubbles -- he loved chasing and eating them.

*Note: When introducing enrichment, direct supervision is required to ensure the activity is safe for your pup.

Couch Potato time at Instinct Nashville! When booking for camp, you'll see under additional services where you can give your dog some extra snuggle time during their stay. If they are not snugglers, don't worry; they can still enjoy this service. We love spoiling your pups with enrichment, special toys, hangout time, relaxing music, or anything else they prefer.

We had the pleasure of working with Grant, from Big Fluffy Dog Rescue recently. They wanted to set him up for success and send him to camp to help with additional training. Grant was a bit mouthy, especially when taking treats, so we started at the point at which he was successful. He was a kangaroo-of-a-dog, so we also worked on his downs. I mean, who doesn't love working for treats? Amongst learning other skills and behaviors, he loved romping around in the pool and hanging out with staff on the couch. We are happy to report that he was adopted!

Did you know that a garden hose can become extremely warm during the summer? This can cause burns to animals. Let it cool before filling your dog's pool or using a splash pad or sprinklers.

Penny loves water, especially on warm days so she can cool off during the day.

Getting your dog out in the summer is challenging with this heat. Dogs need time to adjust to the heat, just like humans do! Below are four tips to help beat the heat AND keep them safe.

1. Add more fresh water bowls around the yard/patio. Buy a kiddie pool - Toss in different objects to help engage them: toys, treats, sticks, and leaves.

2. Early morning Sniffari. Sniffing combines physical and mental work for dogs and promotes calmness.

3. Pupsicles provide a delicious and cold snack for your dog.

4. Ensure your dog has shade; use tents or umbrellas in the yard; keep the blinds closed in the house. On walks, toss treats under trees to help cool them down.
