If you only trained your dog to go away from you or whatever you choose, stay where you decide, and come when called … your dog is more obedient than most. It never gets easy, even though it is inevitable. Today we had to say goodbye to Freedom. She was an awesome, sweet dog and she will never be forgotten. RIP Freefree. Good girl.

Hello everyone:

In the past couple of months, the Best Buddy Dog Training website was attacked by hackers using malware. The malware then began to send out emails purporting to be from Best Buddy Dog Training, including "invoices".

The situation is corrected, the website is secure again, and the malware is removed.

However, there are some things to be aware of.

1. Best Buddy Dog Training will NEVER solicit clients, send out unexpected emails, or send invoices without a specific conversation with Shawn where an invoice is directly requested by the client. If you get an unexpected email from anyone claiming to be Best Buddy Dog Training, DO NOT OPEN IT. Delete it, and please let me know via the contact form on the website or give me (Shawn) a call. The phone number is also on the website.

2. Any email or automatic response, such as "Your dog training inquiry was received", will always include the Best Buddy Dog Training logo in the header of the email. If in doubt, view the email source info (usually found in the 'message' section of a drop-down menu). The logo will be from my secure website address signified by the "HTTPS" beginning of the website address.

3. If you are interested in hiring Best Buddy Dog Training, always either call me or use the contact form from the website. I will ignore and delete emails using that email address if they do not specifically come thru the website contact form. Never enroll or send any money to ANYONE claiming to be from Best Buddy Dog Training without talking to me first. I do not accept any clients without a conversation between them and me.

I apologize if this situation has caused any confusion or concern to anyone seeking Best Buddy Dog Training services. While the website has been recovered and secured, there may still be a few emails floating around. Again, please delete, ignore, and report them as stated above.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for a brand new and even more mobile-friendly website in the coming days.

The power of PRIME ... teaching your dogs to peacefully and quietly allow you to welcome guests is easy when you have taught them to respect your decision about Proximity. In this case, the dogs show their acceptance of that decision by de-elevating (lying down). The only command given was “go on” while pointing to the acceptable spot. In lesson one, these dogs were exited and pushy, insisting that they should exuberantly greet me. The owners had a ‘baby gate’ at the threshold where the dogs now lie peacefully. By establishing a spacial relationship based on mutual respect, the owner gains obedience and the dogs are no longer crowding and pushing and jumping and barking. This was the beginning of lesson 2.

Luna and Fritz in a down/stay outside ... Fritz came in with a bite history, a habit of resource guarding and growling and biting family members. It all comes down to a lack of disciplined guidance and too much excitement without ‘down time’. As always, we begin by strictly monitoring and controlling Proximity, Movement, and Interactions. Often just focusing on those three things results in significant behavioral improvements without specifically addressing resource guarding (Resources). We address jumping and excitement by teaching and enforcing Elevation. Long down/stays are very effective for this. Proximity, Resources, Interactions, Movement, and Elevation. PRIME is the language of dogs.

Lesson 1 with Scout and Flynn. Scout and Flynn are a pair of friendly, but (until now) pushy dogs who are very receptive to proper training and communication. We begin as always by focusing on Proximity, Movement, and quality of Interactions. By focusing this way, we teach them quickly to do three very important things: Go on (move away and disengage), Stay where told to stay, and Come when called. Meet Kayla. Kayla arrived for boot camp yesterday with a bite record. She’s a beauty with all of the desirable traits of her breed. We begin her rehab with a few days of bonding without too much demand except for basic, calm, respectful behavior. Proximity, Interactions, and Movement are the focus.
