Important holiday announcement! 🦃 🎅🏼
Me: “Maddox, are you tired of this rain?”
Maddox: “Yes 👏 I 👏 am 👏!!!”
😅😅
It can be hard to wait your turn for treats, but Chloe & Gizmo have been doing lots of practice and have been rockin’ it! Specifically Gizmo (Corgi) who thinks anything edible is 100% meant for her, and her only 😉
Willow has been working on waiting patiently at thresholds, and she’s starting to crush it! This is a great habit to train for many reasons. By teaching our dogs not to cross the threshold until asked to do so, we prevent ourselves from possible injury (nobody wants to be yanked out the door, or worse, down a set of stairs!), as well as preventing our dogs from bolting into traffic the moment a door opens, etc. As most doors swing inward, I oftentimes find it easier to introduce this training when going back inside — this way the pup doesn’t feel the need to move away from an opening door coming into their space. What new things are you working on with your dog(s)? Tell me in the comments below! 😃 ⬇️
Emma & Ozzy are new pals to The PAW-tastic Nanny pack. Both are rescues, but Emma had a pretty traumatizing past, and she’s very skeptical of new people. We’ve been working together to overcome her uncertainty of me the past few days, with the goal of being able to leash her. It’s looked a lot like pretending she’s not there (no eye contact, no talking to her, sitting on the floor, and allowing her to have space). Today we had some really exciting progress! She freely chose to follow Oz & I out to the mudroom, approached me to take treats, and ate them 🤩
I believe it’s extremely important to build a strong & trusting relationship with animals, and part of that is giving them the ability to freely choose to come to me. I never want to force something they’re not ready for, and in this case, Emma isn’t quite ready to be leashed. This process can take time and patience, but it’s always worth it. Welcome to the pack, Emma & Oz! 🩷
Gizmo, the Corgi, is working on waiting her turn, and taking treats gently (instead of like a baby shark!🦈). She’s getting better & better at this!
Safe to say this is more snow than I had anticipated for, but Brady is certainly enjoying it! It’s nearly the height of him and *still* coming down! ❄️❄️❄️
I plan to resume walks & visits tomorrow, but will likely be starting a bit later than usual, as the snow isn’t forecasted to stop until morning. If you’re on the schedule for tomorrow, I’ll keep you posted!
Snow day today! How does your dog feel about the snow? Share a photo in the comments below! ☃️
Tip of the day! Am I the only one who didn’t know this? 😅
Happy New Year! Spotlighting a few of my dog walking pals 🐾 Did you notice a theme while watching?
Something I strive for with all of “my” dogs is loose leash walking. Does it happen overnight? Nope. Does it take a lot of work, time, effort, patience, and teamwork from myself & their owners? Yep. Is it worth it? Heck yeah!! 🤩
Just like a kid, fighting that sleep 🤣💤
Rafe has been working on loose leash walking & heel. He’s been a total rockstar! What goal(s) would you love to see your dog achieve? Tell me in the comments below! ⬇️
One of my favorite experiences with my work is when I meet a timid and cautious pup (or other pet!), and they very quickly warm up to me. This was the case with Becka, the Mastiff (pink collar). Becka was shy at our meet & greet, but curious. She put on a brave face to accept a treat from me when her sisters did, and never left the room though her humans mentioned she typically does around new people. I recommended a follow-up session, without her humans present, to ensure Becka’s comfort with me before we solidified pet care services. She did fabulously! She immediately accepted lots of pets and butt rubs — even trying to push her sister, Lily (green collar), out of the way a bit lol!
I love my job 🥰
Monday morning office view 😍🌳🍁
Maria is very skeptical of new people, and has been rather skiddish around me during visits. I was SO pleased when she took it upon herself to come over for some scratches & loves this morning after she finished her breakfast! 🥰
Odin is the best big brother to Tango 🥹😍
He doesn’t let her win as much now though lol
The progress from Nala’s first walk outside with me the beginning of April, to today 🥹😍
Not only has she gained SO much confidence the past 2 months, she has been a fast and steady learner of what I’ve been asking of her. Kudos to her family for continuing to work on her training as well, and helping to set Nala up for a future of success. So very proud of this little girl and her accomplishments!
Maddox practicing his recall 👏👏👏
