With a broken heart, I'm sad to share that my faithful Australian shepherd, Deacon TeleRover has passed today at the age of 13. The first picture we ever took was with him and Becky at our cabin in South Park. The last picture of him next to our motorcycle this morning. He was able to only stand briefly, but he when he walked around, he was confused, but he found his way into the mancave to the KTM 690 we shared together. His kidneys were shutting down and there was no hope to repair them.

What a blessing Deacon was for the past 11 years riding all around north America. We were together 24/7. Lift a glass with me to celebrate his memory tonight. His passing was a rough one. The organizers at the last KTM adventure rider rally had a premonition that they might not see him again, and gave him a trophy.

Deacon has a new ride. Gifted by members of the 80027 Facebook group in Louisville, Colorado. Sue Maersch Ewig facilitated this surprise gift when it became known that Deacon could not walk very far. Now I can walk with him and get my exercise. We'll do a sea trial tomorrow.

Here's a video of Deacon TeleRover and I in 2018 at the KTM adventure rider rally in Park City, Utah. After reading an interview on Uplift with Mason Klein, he mentioned that this event is what inspired him to race cross country Rallies like Dakar Rally . I went through this video to see if I could find Mason and sure enough, we have a photo of his family with Deacon. Mason was 17 at the time. I have been following his career since his 1st Dakar. Unfortunately for me, and other KTM fans, Mason could not get a sponsorship with the factory and had to form his own team with the Chinese Kove bike. First major ride without Deacon TeleRover. His arthritis and age (12) prevents him from jumping onto the bike without help. Plus, once we start riding longer than a half hour, he is unable to lift himself up from the saddle and jump down. I have to lift him off. My back and arthritis should not be picking up a 50-pound dog. It is the end of an era.
