This dry summer grass makes for perfect palomino camouflage. From a distance I've got to look close to find Jenny and her foal.😂

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do with this little guy. He's so curious and personable, loves to interact with people, even if it's just making silly videos.

What a difference a year makes. West Desert Chile Macho as a yearling and a two year old. We couldn't be more happy with horses our program is turning out. We still have foals from this year available at weaning, including a full brother to Macho.

Jenny had to prove me wrong! She wasn't ready and made me wait 2 more days after I guaranteed there'd be a foal on the ground by morning.
Very big palomino or possibly dunalino c**t.

We're looking to wrap up our 2024 foaling season this weekend. FSF Jennifer Ashley is our last mare due to foal, and it looks like we'll have a foal on the ground by tomorrow. She showed such a dramatic change in appearance this afternoon that I thought I'd show you all. Hoping all goes well!

Can you get through a gate without dismounting? Well, it sometimes depends on the gate.

Our bay streak continues! We're happy this little guy arrived safe and early. With him on the ground, we have only one more mare left to foal and she's not due until the end of May.

Now we're waiting on Lady Dollar. In the past she's consistently looked ready to foal at around 340 days, but has kept us on the hook for another 10 days. However tonight she had some signs that suggested she may be ready to foal soon. Will she keep us in suspense until day 350 on May 11, or will she foal early?
And will our "bay" streak continue or will she give us a colorful baby? Stay tuned...

Candy surprised us this afternoon with a little filly. This is her first foal with us so we weren't really sure of her signs, and as it turns out there are no signs. So now we're halfway done with foaling!

Our next mare due to foal is Dilettante de Esprit, aka Candy. She was 340 days on April 19 and shows no signs of being ready to foal any time soon. She's a sweetheart on the ground or in the saddle. This will be her first foal with us and we're excited to see what she produces.

It was a bay stallion (Ukelele Charlie NV x Wynnsome Whisper) hiding in there. So far everyone is healthy and happy. No ideas on names yet, so suggestions are welcome.

We should have our first foal of the year on the ground by this time tomorrow. Foaling is always exciting and there's always that element of chaos and risk. Stay tuned see what the next 24 hours have in store!

If you have a horse herd you know there's always the one that can sniff out the grain. Jenny can smell when there's grain in the bucket and when it's empty. She's due to foal in about 2 months. (Ukulele Charlie NV x FSF Jennifer Ashley)

Time to cut out a couple of feeder steers so we can get them on grain. The wind was absolutely howling pushing a storm in so all the animals were all sorts of wound up. It took quite a while to get these two cut out and convinced to travel the same direction. It was a little too wild to get any footage of that part but it really took a lot of effort and Banjo stepped up like he always does. Most of the time when we have these little jobs it is just Banjo and myself, and I have to say these little do or die missions really have made him into a good cow horse. These Morgans have tons of stamina and I haven't had to pull off and call for help because I was out of horse.

It's easy to tell when foaling season is close because the weather gets indecisive and the mud almost takes over. The mares are looking really heavy and we're getting excited to see what they've been cooking for almost a year. All foals are sired by Ukulele Charlie NV.

Halter training and leading practice with West Desert Spanish Gold. Things were busy and we didn't get him in a halter until this week. He's smart, playful, as well as stout. Good thing we didn't wait any longer. Not only does he learn his lessons quickly, he's also great at reminding me to give him my full attention. I'm continually impressed by the high quality of his shenanigans. He's available to the right home.

There's always lots going on in the fall, one is helping to gather cows. This is big country with lots of places for cows to hide so any help is appreciated. This is where the Morgan horses really shine. There are lots of ups and downs and back and forth. Some of it through the brush and rocks at a high trot to get ahead of the cows before they get into the junipers and scatter. This kind of riding can be hard on horses and they've got to be tough to keep up. Good times and good horses.
