Dasher (https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/available-dogs/) is doing well in his foster home and is enjoying his foster humans, canines and felines. What he really loves (and waits for) is when his foster mom covers his bed with a soft, fluffy blanket.

Parker (https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/available-dogs/) has many jobs at Westport Animal Control. He welcomes new guests and is their top requested parallel walker pal. When we try new nutritious treats - either provided by WASA or a generous donor - he is our chosen tester for the paws up or paws down verdict. He also is the toy inspector for those toys dropped off by kind residents. He’s a busy guy - and we love him so.

UPDATE. ADOPTION PENDING.

This young doodle (mid size) is a new CT owner surrender to WASA’s foster program due to owner’s work schedule. He is a good boy, named Scooby, but will need some updating of vet care (neutering surgery) which we are scheduling now. He will be a year old in August. He is doing very well with his new canine friends in his foster home. For additional info about Scooby please contact WASA by calling 203 557 0361 or by sending an email to [email protected]. To complete an online application, necessary prior to meet and greet, please visit: https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/wasa-adoption-application/

Who is the best boy? Well that would be Bear (https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/available-dogs/). Today Bear was at Schulhof Animal Hospital for a follow up exam and additional vaccines. He was outstanding throughout his exam and received stellar marks from the staff. All is well in Bear land physically but he still needs his forever home. Oh, and Bear is fabulous in the car! A great thing for those that take their furry friends on trips. To contact WASA please call 203 341 5076 or send an email to [email protected].

Today on National Veterinary Appreciation Day, we thank and celebrate those veterinary practices that help WASA by providing knowledgeable and compassionate care for our WASA fosters and Westport Animal Control guests (Part 2). Norwalk Veterinary Hospital so often makes our dogs a priority and adds them to their very busy schedules. We are so grateful. Just yesterday, Dr. Charles Duffy added our friend Isla to his surgical schedule and did not make Isla wait for weeks in regard to addressing a puzzling and uncomfortable condition. Isla found herself in a municipal shelter after serving her purpose as a breeder mom. Given her appearance, apparently it was decided by a suspected back yard breeder, she was abandoned - which for Isla was her saving grace. She is now adopted and most beloved by a WASA volunteer. We suspect those big bumps are scar tissue or keloids from a burn - brand? heat lamp? They were clearly uncomfortable for Isla and were irritated. Dr. Duffy made removal of those growths a priority. They were removed and sent out for biopsy. Thank you!

Today on National Veterinary Appreciation Day we thank and salute those veterinary practices that partner with WASA to help us provide compassionate and knowledgeable care for our locally-rescued friends - both WASA fosters and Westport Animal Control guests (Part 1). Schulhof Animal Hospital has been with WASA from the start, and certainly nothing exemplifies their support more than the care they have given to our friend Parker. They have helped us provide him with a level of care that had helped him overcome so much (ie, injuries at the hands of someone that should have been protecting him) and has allowed him to live a life that while not in a home is one of comfort and love. In addition to routine care, he now is receiving acupuncture performed by Dr. Carter at Schulhof Animal Hospital. Thank you Schulhof Animal Hospital! Out and about yesterday with this handsome boy, Rudy. Some good tunes and an Earth Animal No Hide and he’s good to go (although he does plop his head on the middle console for some ear scratches). For additional info about Rudy, now up to date on his vet care, please visit: https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/available-dogs/

Our friend Dasher is now in foster care. He has a great foster family including some former WASA foster pups that are very willing and able to help Dasher with his transition from kennel life to home life. He will, of course, still need his forever home. There is a waiting list for foster space for other CT dogs in need. For more info about Dasher, please visit: https://www.westportwasa.org/adopt/available-dogs/
