We are a non-profit with the goal of assisting our community members with TNR. In between, we like to showcase our personal kitties as well as our fosters.
Any cat that enters the Batta house will always be a Batta cat. Starting with our sweet Jack and Coco that made the move from our apartment into our house. Jack & Coco were about 7 years old when we moved. We had the privilege of living as a family until they were 18 in 2014. Then it was time to say goodbye. On the heels of Jack & Coco came two tiny babies that were found by our niece. They were o
nly 2-3 weeks old and were bottle babies. We didn't know if we would keep them but after a few days, we couldn't not keep them. So we welcomed Pepé and Penelope to our family. One year later, we decided to try fostering kittens and then the fun really began. Pepé & Penelope were at a good age to be socialized with kittens. They were able to play, teach, and be annoyed by kittens. Since then, we have had a revolving door of wonderful furballs, some very young, some older, but all need purrmanent homes. Along the way we have "foster failed" and welcomed two more furkids to the family, Slade and Mini. This is the page where you can learn more about Pepé,Penelope, Slade, and Mini and their numerous houseguests. If you ever see a foster cat you are interested in, feel free to inquire and we can point you in the direction to give the Batta Cat a furrever home.

Not a bad drive if you need a kitty or doggo fixed. Just spend the day in Columbus! Plenty to do while your pet is having surgery.
Caramel Mocha Latte is available again for adoption! Her last adoption didn’t go as well as anticipated and she decided she has a few more requirements for her FOREVER home: 1. She wants to be the ONLY 4 legged princess in the house 2. She wants cuddles and pets but when she doesn’t, she doesn’t. 3. She wants a chill environment.
If you can meet Caramel’s requirements, we encourage you to meet her at Petsmart on Feedwire by the grooming/daycare area. Please apply for adoption via LiFeline Cat Rescue and Network Inc.

We are asked to relocate cats quite often. This is why we rarely will.
It is not that relocation of feral cats cannot be done, but it is not an easy or always successful task. Let's take a closer look at the obstacles:
TERRITORIAL BEHAVIOR:
Feral cats form strong bonds with their territory and may attempt to travel long distances to return to their original home, putting them at risk of injury or death during the journey. There is a chance they will run away from their new location even if suitable acclimation was carried out. If there was no acclimation process, you can almost guarantee it.
STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE:
You will have to keep the kitty confined long enough so he can learn that this is his new home and you are the new feeder. This process is highly stressful for cats, especially since they are not socialized to humans and may not understand what is happening. It is also stressful for the human trying to care for the cat.
VACUUM EFFECT:
If cats are removed from an area, it is said that new cats will quickly move in to fill the space, meaning relocation does not actually reduce the population.
POTENTIAL FOR HARM IN NEW ENVIRONMENT:
A relocated cat may not be familiar with the new area's predators, food sources, or shelter options, increasing their risk of injury or starvation.
ETHICAL CONCERNS:
Many animal welfare organizations consider relocating feral cats as inhumane due to the potential for significant stress and danger to the animals.
🔸 What can you do instead? 🔸
TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR):
This method involves trapping feral cats, sterilizing them, vaccinating them, ear-tipping for identification, and then returning them to their original location.
PROVIDE FOOD AND SHELTER:
If you are concerned about a feral cat population, consider providing food and shelter in a designated area to help manage their numbers and reduce conflicts.

Always a good idea to register your pets’ microchips with multiple companies. Many are free!
After a microchip company abruptly shut down, animal shelters and related organizations have begun warning pet owners to re-register their animals with a different service.

Thank you Stephanie and Joshua C for an amazing donation! We put everything away before taking a photo but it is much appreciated!
4 bags of food, Catego, 2 bags of litter, bottle of bleach, 4 gallons of Odoban. Wow! Thank you again so much. Stitch also says thanks.
Our darling Nina is still waiting for her people to come and take her home from SICSA. She's the sweetest girl ever, great with other cats, and just super loving. We hope someone falls in love with her soon.

We have some messy little babies in the house along with their very sweet momma. They may make messes but they’re cute when they do it so, forgiven.

Cleaning day! I think this is the most we’ve done at once. Complete a volunteer application if you would like to help us behind the scenes. There’s usually something to do if you are willing to come to Xenia.

In spite of the cold and yucky weather this January, we had a very busy month! 143 cats gathered: 83 returned to field, 35 transferred to rescue or shelter, 20 personals, 2 euthanasias. These kitties made 34 loads of laundry at Batta Cats headquarters alone and do not include the laundry our trapping volunteers do at their homes.
We are doing our best to beat the heat and prevent spring kittens.
If you are interested in helping by being a clinic sponsor, a volunteer to help with event planning, or help behind the scenes (cleaning/laundry), please reach out!

If you got free kittens around Christmas that were the same size as these two, and they still have not been spayed or neutered, you need to get an appointment NOW! At four months, those kittens are reproductive. That means they will try to get out, they will mate with each other whether they are brother/sister, and guess what, your baby cat will be pregnant. She doesn’t need to have a heat cycle, she doesn’t need to go through a painful mating cycle, she, and the world, does not need more kittens. He is less likely to spray if you have him neutered young. Do not wait. Appointments become harder and harder to get as we approach spring. Get on the schedule NOW. For low cost options, visit our website. Under get involved, find Spay and Neuter resources. Link will be in comments.

We may have found these two adorable all black baby panthers. 😉

One of our volunteers found a dead kitty in the road this morning and picked it up. Much to our surprise, it did have a microchip. The poor baby got out and the owner didn't even realize it (let out accidentally by a child perhaps?) and was hit and killed. Luckily, she does have closure although it is heartbreaking either way. The kitty was an unaltered 7 month old.
We beg you, please microchip and spay/neuter your pets. It does help prevent them from wanting to go outside to mate (not sure if that's what this guy was trying to do but he was definitely old enough.) At least he will be returned, post cremation, but nobody wants to hear this news. :(

Don’t let your cats be “balled and flawed!” Take them to become balless and flawless. Check out our website for low cost spay/neuter clinics in our area. https://www.battacats.org/spay-neuter-resources

Swayze says thank you to all who have dropped off items in our donation barrel at Huber Heights Animal Hospital. They messaged yesterday and said, your barrell is full! So we went and picked up our goodies and Swayze is literally eating some of them now. The barrel is still there along with the 6 other locations in case you are wanting to hook Swayze and the other kitties up with supplies and food. Thank you again so much!
Wilkes didn’t do so well at Petsmart. Just a little too much excitement for him. We wanted to share what a sweetie he can be once he gets settled into his home. 🐈😻
Paisley is much more lively! Last week we were pulling our hair out syringe feeding her and doing daily fluids. Now she is eating on her own (well) and very playful.
Paisley is eating on her own!
Finally got Paisley to eat. Thank goodness we have a smorgasbord of options to try. We accept ALL types of cat and kitten food donations. We have placed donation barrels at several small businesses for your convenience. Check out the hours and drop off your items! Update video on the babies we got Sunday who were brought in through the doggy door by their momma. They have calmed quite nicely in just a few short days!
Miss Nina has a strong paw when it comes to her toilet activities so we finally switched to a high-walled box. Problem solved right? Welll, she thought different apparently.
In spite of her very effective covering of stuff in the box, she is a very good and sweet girl who has been officially cleared for adoption. No more snot, lots of headbutts and love is what we get from her! Who’s ready for a sweet girl looking for a second chance at life?
Nina is FIV+, spayed, vaccinated, and ready for love! She does well around other cats and would be a good playmate.
Apply at BattaCats.org/adoptionapplication
Kitten Socialization
Socialization underway on the two from last night. Baby one isn’t bad at all and came out of the box on her own. Baby two is quite feisty and spits, strikes and hisses. Oh little one, you are safe now. No need to be scared.

Our Story
Batta Cats started as a page after a friend asked for help with a stray male cat. This cat would find his way to her balcony for a meal every night. She did not have the space to bring him in so, because we already had a revolving door of foster cats, (plus 4 of our own) I said sure. We were able to get him in a carrier and I whisked him home. He was torn up. Open wound around his neck, scratches, fur looked thin, he was on the thin side, but still a big cat. My friend was calling him Bobby so we named him Bobby McGee. I took Bobby McGee to the vet as soon as possible to get him vaccinated and neutered and learned he was FIV+. That was ok by me but not ok with the adoption center I fostered and volunteered with (at the time. They have since began taking FIV+ cats! YAY) So Bobby McGee became my foster that I now needed to find a home for. That’s when Batta Cats, the page, came about. It was a resource to find Bobby McGee a home. After a few months and some bleak prospects, we decided Bobby found his home with us and we welcomed our 5th cat to our family.
Bobby McGee was a GREAT cat. He cuddled on us like a baby, purred, drooled, was so sweet with all the other cats. Just a big, gentle dude. We loved him so much. He did well with the continued revolving door of fosters, tolerated the bratty kittens, and was never, ever, mean or aggressive to any of the baby cats.
Fast forward to only 1 1/2 years later, February 2019. Bobby was looking a little thin and sleeping a lot. We took him to the vet and learned he was dehydrated and not doing well. He was hospitalized for several days while we had an out of town trip and the vets wondered if he had FIP. Upon our return we put him on steroids and brought him home. After about 2-3 days, he bounced out of it, much to our relief. A few months later, same thing. He lost interest in food so we bought anything and everything to encourage food. Back on steroids and the vet said they thought it was just from the FIV. We already thought we would have to say goodbye once, made an appointment to say goodbye the second time and canceled it. Finally we went to another vet to get a second opinion. An ultrasound was conducted and it was confirmed, our sweet boy had Lymphoma. Absolute heartbreak. Because we knew he had already been battling this for several months, we chose to give Bobby lots of love and comfort. A few weeks later, we said our tearful goodbyes and continue to shed tears to this day for the handsome guy with the beat up ears, fantastic cuddles, and drool for days.
After Bobby crossed, it became even more of a mission to help cats like Bobby. The abandoned, “stray,” lost, feral, community cat. I had already begun to volunteer at another organization learning to TNR. I started to do it on my own when I could and became very passionate about these forgotten souls. Batta Cats could do more than just be spoiled kitties that came into our household. Batta Cats could make Bobby McGee proud. Batta Cats can help more community cats.
Our mission is to help with TNR efforts in our community. Not only trap the cats; teach others how to do it. Find the young and friendly cats homes. Help the injured and ill cats. STOP the cycle. Our Bobby McGee was too precious to be getting beat up and having a hard time finding his next meal...and we know there are many more Bobby McGee’s out there.
