"As a new pup owner, I wanted to ensure my puppy had the best start in becoming a well-behaved canine companion. That's when I reached out to Allison to learn more about the board and train program. Instantly, she put me at ease. Allison runs a fantastic model of training, focusing on one pup at a time in her home with her family and pets, unlike some programs with multiple dogs being trained simultaneously.

🧘 Training Tip: Stay Calm and Confident 🧘

Be calm and confident and pass your positive energy onto your dog!

Give your dog attention when they are being calm and relaxed. You can ignore unwanted behaviors and don't try to "soothe" their anxieties because it will only make them worse. It's good to remember when you interact with your pup, what you nurture will grow! So feel free to really love on your pup when they are being relaxed instead of giving them attention when they are overly excited or they are exhibiting any nervous, anxious or afraid behaviors.

🔊 Training Trip: Speak 🐕

Tired of endless barking? Instead of just saying "No," try teaching your pup positive commands. Start with teaching your pup to speak. When your pup is about to bark, say "Speak." When they bark, say "Good speak" and reward them with a treat. Repeat this as your pup continues to bark until they start to pair the action of barking with your command.

Pro Tip: Use a hand gesture for your command "Speak" to help them learn even faster! Then, switch gears! Teach them the opposite command - "Quiet." Now, use your new command "Quiet", bonus points for using that with its own unique hand gesture as well, and only praise and treat when your pup stops barking with a cheerful "Good quiet."

Join our amazing Rally-O course! This fun sport involves a dog and their handler completing a fun course set up by our amazing trainer Debby E. In this beginning Rally, you will become familiar with the different signs and patterns, working up to completing a 15 sign course!

To teach the first step of crate training, make it a fun game!

1. First put your pup on a leash to create an easy boundary near you and the crate.

2. Next give them the command "kennel" and guide them 90% of the way into their crate. You can guide them with gentle pressure from your hands or the leash, whatever you find works the best for your pupper.

3. Give them time to complete that final 10% on their own. You may have to try a few times for them to get the knack of this new game but the idea is that you want them to take that final step in all by themselves.

4. Let them come out freely and give them a treat when they come OUT! Don't give a treat for going in unless you really need to use it as part of guiding them in. Stop treating for going in as soon as they are going in on their own and switch to only rewarding for coming out.

This is the ✨magic✨ that makes it all happen in the next steps to come. We are setting them up for a purpose: to be rewarded at the end. This is how we completely obliterate separation anxiety with a fun, rewarding and purposeful game.

🌞 Summer Safety Alert! 🌞

As the sun blazes and temperatures soar, it's crucial to remember: hot asphalt poses a real danger to your furry friend's delicate paws! 🥵 Before your pup's little 🐾 hit the pavement, take a moment to check the asphalt's temperature.

Simply place the back of your hand or bottom of your foot on the asphalt. If it feels too hot for you, it's too hot for your pup!

So before you embark (get it!) on that next hot adventure, consider opting for walking during cooler parts of the day, avoiding paved surfaces or using dog booties to keep your pup from having to walk across a surface that is too hot for their bare pads.

Although bunny ears won't amplify their hearing, did you know that dogs have an extraordinary sense of hearing? Their ears are finely tuned to detect sounds with precision, allowing them to pick up on things that are completely out of our range.

A dog's hearing range is far wider than ours, reaching frequencies up to 60,000 Hz compared to our 20,000 Hz limit. Dogs with larger ears, like bunny ears, can use them to funnel sound waves, giving them a slightly enhanced ability to detect sounds coming from specific directions. It's like having built-in sound-catching satellite dishes on their adorable heads!

At Peticularly Perfect, we specialize in providing professional and personalized pet care services to North County San Diego, especially Escondido, Valley Center, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Rancho Bernardo, and Poway. We offer an array of premium pet care services including in-home pet sitting, overnight care, dog walking, and training.

In addition to our customizable pet care visits, we also offer daycare and boarding services, where your pet can stay with us as a special guest in a cozy home environment while you are away.

We even offer special services, such as pet taxi and bathing, that you can reserve a la carte or add on to another service. We also provide pet handlers for photo shoots and other special events (i.e. your big day!).

For all of our services, we email you regular photo updates so you know we are there keeping your pets happy. We are of course licensed, bonded, insured, background checked, and pet CPR certified!
