Deciding who to trust for the care of your furry family members is a very important decision. We will strive every day to keep your pets as healthy, happy, and comfortable as we can. As a family owned practice, we don’t believe in the one size fits all approach to medicine. Dr Sam Morehead and his staff focus on clients' and their pets' specific needs, with the personal attention and care they des

erve. The bond people have with their pets is a special thing. Our goal is to foster that bond. So give us a call or stop by. We look forward to meeting you.

Don’t forget to “Protect the Paws”!
It’s hot out there!
We all love taking our pets for a walk. Walking is a great way to relieve stress, exercise, spend time with the family and pets, or to just get some fresh air.
Here are some things to remember when taking your pets for a walk this summer.
• Test before you walk – Press the back of your hand firmly against the asphalt for 7 seconds.
• If it is too hot for you, it is too hot for your pet.
• Skin destruction can occur in 60 seconds (this includes paw pads).
• Pavement temperatures can be 40 – 60 degrees warmer than air temperatures.
• Any hard road, street, concrete sidewalk, or tennis court can be considered pavement.
• Look for a grass patch, grass paths, or dirt/mulch trails.
• Invest in a pair of dog shoes or booties.
• Walk early in the morning or later at night (this is Texas, it can still be too hot at dusk).
• Avoid extreme weather conditions.
• Keep walks to minimum.

If you believe your pet has burned their paw pads, contact a veterinarian for medical care.

For animal welfare concerns contact Leander Animal Services at 512-528-2800.

However, all that fun in the sun can cause heatstroke, especially in indoor animals that are not acclimated to the heat. This article outlines tips on keeping your pet safe as the weather continues to warm.

Happy National Pet Week! Today’s theme is “Love your pet? See your vet!” Regular preventive care is critical to keep pets healthy and improve both quality and length of life. It also can save owners a great deal of money in the long run. Don’t wait to take your pet to the veterinarian only when it’s visibly sick or injured. Pets often hide signs of illness, and regular check-ups are vital to catching health problems early. Early treatment means better health for your pet.

Dog preventative care can define the health and longevity of your pet, so it's crucial that you read the ways a check in with a vet isn't a bad idea.

Thank you 💓🐾
