While we try to get the longer parts of the session up on YouTube, we decided to at least get the last part up on FB. I came out to see what this cute little pony was like. Her owners said she's very skittish and spooks easily and wanted my help to get her more quiet and confident.
I got the impression that, while spending 8 years with a herd of feral horses up in the Wyoming mountains after being a solid cow pony for a few years, she must've been put at the bottom of the totem pole.
I spent 20 minutes getting a feel for what she's like and she hooked on quickly and seemed very much ready for a good connection and to follow a leader and followed me all the way to the gate I entered from when I left once we finished our session. I think the more we work with her on getting her reactive side smaller than her thinking side, that original pony that handled cow work like a pro will come back to the surface.

Katie wanted one last ride on Little Red (aka De Perfect Boy) before Gate to Great/Horse Creek Thoroughbreds takes him off to find a new home this week.

I'm working with King at Gate to Great/Horse Creek Thoroughbreds to get him used to different riders. He is a lot of horse in the sense of being in perfect physical form (well muscled and perfectly built). His name is perfect for him. He's so regal, yet sweet, yet not weak or nervous at all. He commands the situation, he doesn't let it rule him. You have to earn his respect, and I mean, EARN it, by showing you're leadership material that he can count on. He's teaching me a lot and he's a lot of fun. And not to mention.....he's absolutely gorgeous 😍

My mother in law came out with us today and took her first ride on a thoroughbred! TC was awesome. Very patient and quiet despite all the kids plus their bikes all over the place!

Video of Take Command (TC) still a work in progress. He's a pretty amazing horse. From race winner to a happy kid horse and ranch horse, you name it, TC does it all!

He's another great horse we get to work with at Gate to Great/Horse Creek Thoroughbreds

My next OTTB project is Take Command! Here's a video of one of his winning races.

I didn't know this Makeover existed until recently. Dale wants me to give it a go and compete in it next year. He's in the process right now of looking for an eligible horse for me to train for it. To say I'm nervous, bewildered, and blown away by this whole development is an understatement! I'm glad I have a year to prep at least!

I partnered up with Dale Simanton to help him give retired thoroughbred race horses second chances as ranch horses. Today, Mike and Gabe rode TC and Mo. They did a fantastic job and the horses were so good with them. I'm learning that I adopted the stereotypical perception that thoroughbreds are hot and crazy. Instead, these guys have a good mind, and look to get along with those of us who want to get along with them. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

i think quicker results could be found by having the horse follow the bike rather than moving the bike towards the horse. the bike is acting like a predator in this fashion. if it’s going away, the pressure is released and the horse can relax and think rather than react. by going away, the bike isn’t seen as a threat and the horse has the space to explore it and be curious on its own time. no force.
