With a lot happening lately, we’d like to update you on Teri’s progress and our weekly fundraising!

Teri is home! But not without a price, of course. Never in my life have I seen so many staples in one person’s back - it’s insane. Physical therapy starts tomorrow, and she sees her surgeon for a follow-up on Thursday. I’m sure she’ll share more afterwards.

She underwent an intense, painful surgery, and within a week, she was begging to see her babies. We didn’t let her walk out of course, but we did drive her to the back so she could see and touch their noses. Believe me they were as happy to see her as she was to see them. She was able to walk to a few of the horses and there were hugs and face licks all around with Flash and Harley arguing over who gets to touch her first. So much love.❤️

We only had to scramble with out any input from Teri for a little over a week. It didn’t take long to realize just how much she does! This week we are fundraising for our weekly feed bill as well as a visit from our farrier. Total is $907.

This is where it starts to get worrisome, and hard to keep Teri down. She absolutely needs the rest and recovery time, but without her financial help to make up for being short on our fundraisers begins to make all of us nervous.

Your donation today will help us continue. We appreciate every dollar, which brings us closer to our goal. We’re grateful for your support; we couldn’t do it without you.

Hi everyone! As we start the weekend, I wanted to update you on our status. On Monday, Teri, Founder and Director, underwent very serious back surgery (full spine revision) that lasted around 10 hours. Teri’s surgery was extremely invasive. Yesterday, there was discussion of transferring her to an acute rehabilitation facility, but as of today, she will remain in the hospital.

She is experiencing a tremendous amount of pain and still has a drainage tube that cannot be removed at this time. When Teri’s doctor is happy with her progress, she will be moved to a rehabilitation facility to regain skills like walking, standing without assistance, and getting dressed. She’ll need to relearn how to move and bend safely. This recovery process will require months of disability leave.

SAHH is facing some pretty scary challenges and we truly need community support! We were able to pay for last week’s feed order and vet bill with donations received, yay! We tried hard to raise $5,000 when Teri went into hospital to give us a cushion but we just didn’t reach that goal and we’re back to fundraising week by week.

We’re all volunteers here, and let me tell you, we’re making Teri proud! But we need your help to pay for bagged feed and hay for next week delivery. One week costs approx $770, and two weeks cost $1,540. Any donation amount is appreciated; we can’t do this without you. Thank you, Lisa and all SAHH volunteers

Teri update! She has been transferred out of ICU! 🙌 I’ve spoken to her and she is in good spirits, lots of pain of course and resting. Physical therapy assisted her in standing a couple of times yesterday, which is excellent progress. Although recovery will take many months, we’re relieved that things are going as planned! ❤️

Hi everyone, we won’t receive an update on Teri until later this afternoon, but I wanted to update you on Aspen and Brownie. First, a big shout-out to rockstar volunteers Cynthia and Malvina for meeting the vet this morning!

Last night, horse feeder Nora noticed Aspen and Brownie were swollen in the abdominal area, and with Teri still here, she was able to evaluate and schedule a vet appointment for first thing this morning.

Aspen has sustained trauma to her rib area that likely happened when she was out with other horses. The exact circumstances are uncertain. She’s currently in good spirits but will remain on stall rest while being monitored closely and receiving lots of love from all of us!

Brownie’s diagnosis is that she ingested gravel or sand, which is now in her colon and trying to pass, potentially causing digestion issues and abdominal swelling. Our vet recommends adding psyllium to her feed twice daily to help her pass it more easily. We’re keeping a very close eye on both girls and have cameras on them 24/7.

I want to say when it rains it pours… but it’s 80 degrees here right now and we will continue doing everything it takes to care for all of our babies! This was an unexpected vet expense and with everything going on we would love help to pay their vet cost of $298. Every dollar makes a huge difference, thank you! 🫶, Lisa & all SAHH volunteers

In just three short days, Teri, Founder and Director of Saving Animals & Healing Hearts, will undergo extensive back surgery that will take upwards of eight hours. We are all worried, as this is an incredibly serious procedure. Teri faces a long recovery and time in a rehabilitation center.

We started a fundraiser for $5,000 to help cover feed and sanctuary expenses for one month. Please consider making a donation today to help reach our goal. Thank you so much to those who have donated so far!

If you haven’t had a chance to see our last post please take a moment to watch it. Teri, Founder and Director of SAHH is having extensive back surgery on October 21st. This surgery is going to take an upwards of 8 hours, about a week long stay in the hospital, and from there she will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility for an unknown amount of time, and months of recovery thereafter. Teri has given her life and body to helping animals in need and now she needs the community to rally behind her so she can heal.

We’re facing unknown circumstances with over 90 rescued animals who live here. We have a strong volunteer team who work incredibly hard to feed and care for residents but with that we feed twice a day, am & pm shifts. We find ourselves with many open shifts that Teri would cover… now she’s no longer able too. Training to work with our residents takes time but we must find more volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 3 months to help us. Please fill out a volunteer application today.

Along with needing volunteers we desperately need financial support to help pay for feed and sanctuary expenses as Teri will be on disability which is significantly less income leaving her unable to personally cover expenses during this time. We started a fundraiser yesterday for $5,000. Thank you for those that have donated so far. We need your help getting this post seen by as many as possible so that we can reach our goal and continue caring for the animals while Teri is recovering by commenting, liking & sharing this post! Thank you!

Please help us by donating today.

Friends, we desperately need your help ordering this week’s bagged feed and hay, totaling $647.70. It’s hard to come up with creative ways to ask for help. World Farmed Animals Day, holds special significance for us. This day focuses on raising awareness about the suffering of animals in factory farms. It is an opportunity to advocate for more humane treatment of farmed animals, and promote plant-based diets.

SAHH is home to nearly 100 animals that could have been statistics otherwise. Now, they live each day knowing they are cared for and safe from harm. Visiting our sanctuary, it’s impossible not to feel the love surrounding both animals and volunteers.

I thank God every day for the opportunity to care for His creatures and build relationships with like-minded individuals who dedicate themselves to their well-being.

Being able to watch humans meet our turkeys for the first time, seeing one that isn’t on their table, is impactful. They come face-to-face with a pig like Nelson, who would have been only six months old if slaughtered in a factory farm. Instead, they meet a friendly pig that resonates with their heart, often leaving people shocked and saddened when they hear the truth.

Today, I ask you to consider making a compassionate choice when selecting your food. When Thanksgiving arrives and you recall seeing a turkey in person, choose compassion and love. Their love is unconditional; we hope yours will be the same.

26/09/2024

As horse age their care has to change with them. So when I noticed a sudden drop in weight it became clear Harley’s teeth needed some dental work so he could process foods and get his nutritional needs met.

And as you may remember, Harley had been strolling with his feet sore. It just so happened that it became worse within days of the vet visit.

Once his dental work was done, and he was still a little sleepy doc was able to take a good look at his feet. He had an abscess weeks ago that had been opened, but it closed itself back up and appeared to be going the opposite way, which is never good. In order for him to clear all the way out and there is a place to move forward from, he had to cut down into Harley’s hoof. His bandages will need to be changed and his open wound doctored every three days.

Harley likes his hay soaked, and so we accommodate him and provide a tub for soaking. Harley also likes the soft and cool feeling on his feet with mud so now we have him in the back of his pen under his shelter where it will be completely dry. I don’t think he likes it, but it’s the best thing for him right now.

We have been struggling to raise funds for weekly feed and when a resident needs to see a vet you can imagine how much harder it is given the last few months with donations being so low. So we ask for your help today to pay for Harley’s vet visit of $425. Your donations keep our sanctuary open.

You can donate to Harley’s vet cost by:

Please add a note: for Harley.

Thank you very much! 🫶

It was a busy weekend here! Let’s start with the happy news first. We are thrilled to announce that sweet Valenswine has been adopted! She deserves a full post, which we will create soon, featuring photos, as she went to an amazing family with an incredible yard, a piggy friend, and can be both indoor and outdoor. We couldn’t be happier for her!

Yesterday, we held a new volunteer orientation and met three wonderful people who are excited to join our weekly volunteer feeding team! If you or anyone you know lives in the San Diego area and would like to volunteer with us, please fill out an application today!

Now for the heavy stuff. We are two weeks behind on feed costs, which is critical because we can no longer rely on catching up next week. Our delivery is on hold until we settle the $672.68 outstanding balance. It’s incredibly stressful when everywhere I look is a past-due notice. I only ask for feed when there’s multiple other expenses I’m trying to balance. We urgently need your help paying for bagged feed and hay. Every donated dollar brings us closer to receiving our delivery.

We try to help whenever possible, sometimes that means on my lunch break.

Today I received a call from a resident in Ramona asking if we can help an Opossum found under a bush (last photo). They were nervous about picking him up so i ran over scooped him up, and checked him out. I don’t think there is much hope for him, but i took him to Project Wildlife and if he survives they will release him back to the area he was found.

When I got home, I had to park on the street because our ‘sheep guards’ were on watch. 🫶
