Golden Oldies Cat Rescue We re-home cats ages 6 and older from guardians and shelters in Monterey County, California. We are 100 percent foster-based. We were founded in June 2016.
(10)

Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home older cats in Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them, or those who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes

and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans.

Looking for double the love? Meet bonded “twin” brothers Max (16 lb) and Jake (19 lb)! These sweet, 9-year-old brown tabbies with matching white toes recently lost their beloved human but found safety with us instead of the shelter.

Used to a calm indoor life, they’re hoping for a peaceful home together. Max is a purr machine who adores pets, while Jake, though shy at first, becomes your loyal BFF once he warms up. Both enjoy toys, family time, and could use a bit more exercise (and fewer treats)!

Apply to adopt these sweet brothers here: https://gocatrescue.org/gocr_cat/max-and-jake/

Golden Oldies wants to keep cats out of the shelter!

We take in a lot of cats from rehoming situations, which allows for an older cat that is used to their home to go straight to a foster home and not a shelter. Older cats also have a more difficult time getting adopted when they are in the shelter.

With your support we are able to keep older cats of Monterey County from going to shelters or we take them out of shelters and into a comfortable foster home.

Apply to foster now at https://gocatrescue.org/foster-application/

Our sweet senior, 14-year-old Bella, has found her forever home!

Bella and her adopter qualified for our Seniors Saving Seniors program. Bella's adopter is our first out-of-area senior to qualify for this wonderful program. In it, Golden Oldies waives the adoption fee, helps with medical costs, and makes sure that Bella is well supplied with her prescription food.

We wish them many happy days ahead!

Available for adoption! https://gocatrescue.org/gocr_cat/nebula-and-gamora/

Gamora and Nebula are a pair of bonded 11-year-old girls named after the Marvel Comics characters.
They were originally adopted as kittens from the Monterey SPCA. Now, as seniors, their guardian had to move and could not take them along.
Gamora is a short-haired calico with gorgeous green eyes. She can be a bit timid at first, but once she warms up to you she loves to cuddle and even will bestow kisses on you. Not to be outdone in the beauty department, Nebula is part Siamese with beautiful blue eyes. She is much more the extrovert and thrives on being the life of the party and hanging out with the crowd.
Both cats are indoor-only but enjoy sitting in window sills and watching birds. These two are truly the best of both worlds: they are happy to spend time giving and receiving love but if you are away from home they are content to entertain themselves by playing with each other or napping.
And if you want to make friends with them really fast, just give them some treats. They LOVE their treats!

The sisters are being fostered in Salinas

We appreciate you sharing this post, so this duo can find their forever family!

Where are our big kitty lovers?
We want you to meet sweet 9 year old brothers Max (16 lb) and Jake (19 lb). These two brothers really look alike, with their cute shorthair brown tabby coats and white toes. Their person sadly passed away recently, without a plan for her constant companions. They were lucky indeed to have made their way into our program instead of the scary shelter environment.

Like most cats that have lived the quiet indoor life with only their person as company, these nice cats are hoping for a similar environment for their new beginning. Max is a purr factory!! He loves being petted and has a really loud purr.

Jake takes a little longer to trust but once he does you are his BFF. They are still young enough that they enjoy a variety of toys and interaction with their family. Less treats and more exercise will be the way forward for these two.

Ready to welcome Max and Jake into your heart and home? https://gocatrescue.org/gocr_cat/max-and-jake/

Golden Oldies can't operate without fosters. Many cats of Monterey County are in need of foster homes due to being in shelters or rehoming situations. Without a dedicated group of fosters, we can't take these cats to a safer place as they wait to find their new home.

Golden Oldies takes care of all approved medical expenses for our foster cats, ensuring they receive the care they need. We also supply essentials like food, litter, beds, toys, and crates, so you can focus on providing a loving home environment.

Apply on our website!

Tribute 💛Huey, Pfui, Dewey, Louise, and GrayJoy💛

We received a beautiful, heartfelt letter from the daughter of a guardian who had to surrender his five beloved cats due to a terminal illness. We are grateful to her for letting us know what it meant to them and so very grateful to those of you who adopted these wonderful cats.

“When my father learned that his cancer spread despite grueling chemo, he was devastated. He told me that he wanted to euthanize his five beloved cats to spare them the trauma of losing him and being placed in a shelter.”
“They were seniors and unlikely to be adopted. . . I called around and learned of your organization. Your staff, particularly the gentleman who first answered my call and Tamara, managed the impossible!”

We didn’t just answer—Golden Oldies changed everything for them. We took all the cats in and Tamara, with her team, found loving homes for each cat, perfectly matched to their unique needs and personalities. We helped with the vet clearances when her father, weak and losing hope, couldn’t manage on his own. Despite his initial doubts that his precious cats could be adopted, her father found comfort in Tamara’s kindness and started telling everyone about the incredible people who had come to the rescue of his cherished companions.

“Three days before my dad died, I told him Dewey was adopted and would have a home all to herself and not need to hide in the garage. (She was bullied by the other cats.) My dad’s eyes lit up. Thank you for that gift in particular. . .”

With your generous help in time and donations, this is what we do. It’s not just for the cats, it’s for the people, too.

Adopted!

Coral has been adopted by her foster. Her foster thought she would just foster for GOCR but when she met her foster kitty, Coral, it didn't take long to fall in love. We will miss having you as a foster, but can't blame you one bit for falling in love with sweet little Coral. Happy New Beginnings!

Hello, I’m Rooster! I’m a sweet calico girl, and I’m estimated to be around 7-10 years old. They say I’m a gentle soul who loves cuddles, napping in cozy spots, and watching the world go by from my favorite sunny window.

I’ve had my ups and downs, including a diagnosis of diabetes in 2022, but my treatment plan keeps me happy and healthy! I get two insulin shots every day and enjoy a tasty wet food diet. I’ve lived with small dogs and get along well with them, but I’m currently looking for a home where I can be the center of attention.

My human needs to find me a new home because they can no longer care for me. I promise I’m no trouble and full of love! I’m spayed, up to date on my vaccinations, and microchipped.

If you think you can provide the care that Rooster needs, please contact Steve at (831) 915-0620.

Our Story

Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home cats 6 and older from Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them or those who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans. We do not take ferals or other strays, and cats must use a litter box. We do not take cats from outside of Monterey County. We are 100 percent foster-based and do not have an office. We are primarily volunteer-driven. We were founded in June 2016.

If you are interested in volunteering, fostering or adopting -- or need more information on our surrender process -- please call us at 831-200-9700, email us at [email protected] or visit our website at www.gocatrescue.org.
