Golden Oldies Cat Rescue We are a resource and advocate for cats 6 years and older from Monterey County, CA who are at risk in shelters or whose guardians can no longer care for them.

We place these cats in foster homes while we search for their new adoptive families. Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home older cats in Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them, or t

hose who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans. We are 100 percent foster-based. We were founded in June 2016.

Spotlight Sunday: Meet Magical Merlin!

Merlin is a charming 10-year-old gentleman with a big heart and an even bigger love for people. He adores pets, brushing sessions, cozy conversations, and warming your bed at night. He also has a tiny catnip obsession—but don’t tell him that!

Merlin was sadly surrendered when his guardian had to move somewhere he couldn’t go. Originally from Nebraska, this easy-going Midwestern boy made his way to California and hopes his next move is straight into a loving forever home. He has lived with other cats before but may be a bit selective about his feline friends—though with his big personality, he’s really all the cat you need!

Merlin would likely do well with respectful kids and just needs a urinary diet to keep him feeling his best. If you’re not looking to adopt, please share to help Merlin find his forever home!

9 year old Max has found his new beginning! Thank you to our wonderful foster for keeping our sweet boy safe and loved for the last three months. Max was taught to walk on a harness too during his stay, so he could go on 'field trips'.

Double the trouble, double the love! 🖤

Meet Coco & Bijou—8-year-old house panther brothers ready to steal your heart! After losing their home, they’re now thriving in a loving foster home, where they’re cuddling, playing, and chasing each other around.

Bijou is the playful adventurer, always first to greet you or check out new toys. He loves being picked up and showing off his sleek, svelte frame. Coco is the calm, reserved one who prefers keeping all four paws on the ground but always looks to Bijou for comfort.

These sweet brothers have always been indoor cats, and while they’ve only had each other, they’re hoping for a fresh start with YOU!

🌟 Spotlight Sunday: Meet Max! 🌟

We can’t believe sweet Max hasn’t found his forever home yet! 🏡

Max is a charming 9-year-old brown tabby with adorable white toes and a heart full of love. At 15 pounds, he’s the perfect combination of cuddly and confident. Sadly, Max lost his person and, more recently, his beloved brother, Jake. Despite all he’s been through, Max’s resilient spirit shines brightly.

This affectionate guy loves being with people and will happily come to you for pets and attention. He still enjoys playing with toys and is even learning to walk on a harness—what a smart kitty! Max may also thrive with an easygoing cat companion in his new home.

🐾 Let’s give Max the happy ending he deserves!

What could be better than one beautiful house panther? Why two of course! Meet 8 year old brothers Coco and Bijou. These happy and healthy boys lost the only home they’d ever known when their guardian passed away. Now in a loving foster home they are cuddling, playing and chasing each other around. These handsome boys have always been indoor cats and we don’t know how they would be with other pets, as they’ve always just had each other. Bijou is the more svelte and playful one, the first to greet visitors or check out a new toy. He doesn’t mind being picked up. Coco is more reserved and cautious but follows Bijou’s lead. He prefers to keep all four on the floor. He’s the bigger cat by a few pounds but looks to his more slender brother for comfort. They are both active and inquisitive, always looking for new adventures. Maybe their next big adventure would be to go home with you?

Our information tables are the primary ongoing interface we have with the public. As such, they are a great way to promote Golden Oldies, collect donations, and recruit volunteers. There are no special skills required, only outgoing personalities and a passion for our mission.

We typically set up between 5–9 information tables every month somewhere in the community. Some are at regularly scheduled times, and others are “pick your day and time.”

We currently have tables in Marina, Seaside, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel and Salinas.

You will be paired with a seasoned volunteer for training.

If this sounds like something you would like to do, please fill out a volunteer application at https://gocatrescue.org/volunteer-application/

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

When the clock ran out on the 48-day campaign at midnight December 31st, we had raised $125,786 from 485 donors. That total will certainly go up with the percentage match all organizations receive on the first $75,000 they raise and if any checks come in that were postmarked by December 31.

But as it stood at the midnight deadline, we ranked fifth out of 206 nonprofits for the total number of donors, third for donors between the ages of 18-35 and 28th for total amount raised.

Our goal was to raise $110,000.

Our Story

Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home cats 6 and older from Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them or those who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans. We do not take ferals or other strays, and cats must use a litter box. We do not take cats from outside of Monterey County. We are 100 percent foster-based and do not have an office. We are primarily volunteer-driven. We were founded in June 2016.

If you are interested in volunteering, fostering or adopting -- or need more information on our surrender process -- please call us at 831-200-9700, email us at [email protected] or visit our website at www.gocatrescue.org.
