Woke up to a brisk and rainy morning and per the weather forecast: rain all day. So what do you do on non beach days, you ask? Check out this treasure of a book that has the hidden gems of what to do on rainy days, sunburned days, etc without breaking the bank!! No, it’s not going to list an expensive amusement park, the zoo or the restaurants on 5th Avenue. :) All good places for sure but this book is about the hidden gems of , the places where the locals go….Some locals even remarked on some of the hidden gems they didn’t even know. Hello All,
I've been pet sitting for over 20 years and I love it. I truly enjoy all my animal clients and I so appreciate the trust of their owners in me. I have wonderful reviews as well.
Please understand this is my business; it is not a hobby by any means. I have hobbies: reading, long walks on the beach and even have been known to do crafts. None of these hobbies pay me by the way because hobbies don't pay.
My rates are very fair and reasonable. I should probably increase my rates by 20% to stay up with outrageous inflation and fuel prices. (I don't want to be like so many pet sitters in Naples who charge $200/for overnights and $75 for drop-ins. I think those kind of rates are outrageous but that's their business not mine.In fact, the Naples pet sitter network asked me to join their network but I refused because if I joined I had to charge their rates.) But, at the rate of inflation, I know I'm going to have to raise my rates a bit because like you I, too, have bills, rent, insurance and gas that I have to pay.
A small business like mine makes me the sole responsible person to pay for everything, taxes, insurance, etc. When you work for someone else, they pay you a salary that covers much of all of these necessities. I know I'm stating the obvious but for some reason it needs to be said.
I just got off the phone with a person who tried to dictate my rates. She was 'looking for a pet sitter for her neighbor' and felt she knew what the rates for pet sitting were. She wasn't interested in my experience, my insurance, or really anything I said. What she really wants is a person who likes animals and willing to work for whatever rates she deems appropriate. She doesn't own a business mind you just thinks she is right. I wonder about people like her: do they go to a grocery store and refuse to pay whatever the products prices are and then try to intimidate the cashier into letting them pay what they think and believes are right in their reasoning?
I gave my rate; she said what she thought I deserved to be paid. Can you imagine having a conversation with a person like this? I didn't reply because I couldn't believe how incredibly rude this person was. Since I didn't agree with her perceived rate of my services, she hung up on me.
Frankly, I don't want her as a client or her neighbor. These type of people who don't respect small businesses are the kind who will berate you, micro-manage you and complain about everything. No thanks! I don't have time or the energy to deal with high maintenance and rude people.

So please remember the difference between a hobby and a business. A trustworthy petsitter is worth his/her rate in gold as they love and care for your beloved furry family member. :)

Mercy. Here we go again. I'm always amazed and shouldn't be at how unethical other pet sitting services can be. I found 2 more who have been stalking my instagram and FB pages. :( One of them actually ripped off my business name as well claiming to service all of SWFL. I've reported them to FB as well. I apologize if any of you have been 'marketed' by these lazy, unethical, unimaginative pet services. If you have been contacted please, direct message me, so I can report them to FB.

I'm very particular who I partner with but if I see these type of services soliciting my clients, I do not partner with them or recommend them to anyone.

I apologize if these people have contacted you and/or stalked you as well.
