As you decorate your homes for the holidays, it’s important to remember that some common festive staples can be dangerous for our pets

Thanks to the Detroit Fire Department this sweet cat is safe and alive after being pulled out of a burning home Saturday night.

Firefighters had to use a pet oxygen mask to save her.

Those special masks are thanks in large part to the generosity of Advanced Animal Emergency in Clinton Township. Their vets also treated the little one after she was rescued.

She’s been given the all clear to be adopted so if you have room in your heart and home, please contact my friend Carol at (586) 846-0361.

It’s that time of year when baby animals start to show up. Baby animals are resilient and rarely need humans to intervene. Their best possible chance of survival is with their mother. So what do you do if you find a baby bird? Follow the instructions below.

Remember, it is illegal to try and care for baby animals if you do not have a permit to do so. Wildlife rehabbers go through extensive schooling and training to properly care for wild animals. You can find a list of Michigan rehabbers at: https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/dlr/.

With Easter approaching, we want to remind cat owners that Easter lilies and other lily arrangements are highly toxic to cats. If you have a cat, DO NOT bring lilies into your home. If you plan to send flowers to a loved one, please make sure you choose an arrangement that is non-toxic to the recipient’s pets.

Florists, please help save cats’ lives by warning cat owners on your website and to gently inform over-the-phone or in-person customers. Please suggest safer alternatives by using ASPCA’s toxic and non-toxic plant guide: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants
