When TSAH was just starting in 2017, founders John and Jill Ludwig began going into what their suburban neighbors would consider risky and dangerous areas. The Lord had put a message on them that ‘these streets are holy’ and that their desire to see less street violence in Chicago should start by learning more about life in the most affected communities. In one of these neighborhoods, Back of the Yards, they came across an organization called Increase The Peace which was led by a young man named Berto Aguayo . In him they saw selfless love for the people of his community, a deep desire to improve their lives, and most of all, a heart and spirit to turn that vision into reality.
Since then he has graduated from law school and tonight had the honor of introducing President Obama at the 2024 Obama Foundation Democracy Forum.

Our urban gardening season was a huge success! The kids planted, tended and harvested tomatoes and peppers. Watching them nurture something from seed to flourishing plant is an incredible reminder of the potential they have to grow, learn, and succeed.
