We are the proud owners of the first legal backyard chickens on less than 5 acres in South Brunswick We practice bio-security and have a closed flock.
Coop deGrass started as a simple backyard flock with only brown egg breeds. But then I discovered Green eggs, and Blue eggs and rare breeds. We now sell Day Old Chicks, pullets, and the occasional Point of Lay Hen. OUR STORY IN REVERSE!·
June 27, 2020
Coop deGrass has a few 7 week old fully feathered pullets available. Hatched from eggs acquired from Greenfire Farms - yes, eggs from Greenfire Farm
s! I have Quail Brabanconnes, and Sumtalers! Other pullets from other breeders: Easter Eggers. Wheaten Marans hatched here.. Today I am contemplating hatching to order... autosexing only, Cream Crested Legbars and Welbars. May 2020
A year without chickens is too long! Building a new coop and starting all over again...

Today, my last 6 hens went to their new home. It was a hard choice to make, but I haven’t been able to spend time with them, and that is why I had them. My chickens were never egg laying machines, they were little fluffy butts that made me laugh. Who knew that you could bond with a chicken??? I certainly didn’t think that would happen. Live and learn. Chickens can enrich your life in ways you could never imagine. Thank you, girls.

This year we added Olive Eggers to our flock, as well as 1 Blue Birchen Marans pullet and 1 Welbar pullet. Several of the young Cream Crested Legbar pullets have started to lay, and it looks like they are laying blue eggs! Update: Effective February 27, 2018 South Brunswick Township now allows backyard chickens on 1/4 acre! https://cms.centraljersey.com/2018/03/13/farming-community-of-south-brunswick-updates-regulations-on-chickens/
We are thrilled to have helped to change the zoning ordinance! Effective August 2017, Coop de Grass no longer sells eggs, chicks, or chickens. This is necessary to abide by our township’s zoning ordinance. We have obtained a variance to maintain a flock of 8 hens, but no roosters. Although we miss our roos, we accept the decision and hope that eventually, we will have a home where we will be able to once again be greeted each day by our handsome fellows as well as our girls. June 2015 Coop de Grass started when I brought home 9 day old chicks .I wanted simple a backyard flock with only brown egg breed and eggs for our consumption. But then I discovered Green eggs, and Blue eggs and rare breeds, which led to the discovery of Chicken Math...

I've had chickens since 2015 and every person that I have met through those chickens has been someone that I have stayed in touch with. I still receive photos of our first rooster, Kaiser, as well as photos of other chickens that have gone to new homes.
Sadly, that is no longer the case.
Ross Gordon from East Amwell. (I believe that he works at Indian Fields) picked up 6 laying hens from my husband on October 18, said that he had made an electronic payment to me, and drove off.
I have messaged him several times without receiving payment.
DO NOT send your chickens to this man unless he hands you cash. I would have gladly given my hens to someone who needed them. HE DOES NOT!
An old video. October 12, 2015. Bella Rose chatting with Bandit, then the other hens wander over...
The coop will be much quieter when I get home tonight. 6 of my girls have just been picked up and are heading to a flock in East Amwell... I will miss them all, but especially Chloe and Zoe.🥲
Princeton/South Brunswick NJ
I have some 2 year old hens who are molting and looking for new homes... 2 Crevecoeur-EE mixes, 2 Wheaten Marans, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Easter Egger, several other possibilities.

Jalal is keeping an eye on the hens and making sure they don't try to get into the pool!
Robin Red Breast has some serious Bumblefoot so she is wearing her sporty post surgery orange booties :)
Our Buff Brahma Chicks.
I can't believe how long it has been since I posted to the page. It is shameful!!!
The girls are all happy and thriving and laying eggs like mad so that I can keep donating eggs to the SB Food Pantry! There is no particular order to these photographs which were taken over the last 6 weeks or so.
Our 20 week old White Legbar Cockerel aka Chick Magnet is looking for his permanent flock... we cannot keep him. 😔
If you are interested in him, or if you know anyone who would want him, please let me know. Please share this post with anyone who loves chickens - networking helps!
Hmmm... someone thinks she is clever enough for me to think she sleeps with everyone else!
🐣😁
Sad news... don't procrastinate about some chores... I let out the flock and the littles went out with their mom - they are now 2 weeks old. I had to es**rt them into the run when they got separated, but then I saw that they were under her... I went out 10 minutes later when I saw only 6 of the 8... I found 2 drowned in the pail that the hens drink out of occasionally... I had looked at it and thought that I didn't have to worry about it.
Foolish. I filled up the waterer and it would have been simple to just bring the bucket back up to the house.😔
We have newly hatched chicks!!! FBCM fertile eggs put under my Wheaten Marans hen. 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣

Wheaten Marans over FBCM chicks!
The hatching eggs that were marked hold for pick up with the phone # clearly marked arrived at the Trenton PO at 4 am on Saturday morning. They should have been at Carnegie center by 2 pm on Saturday. They were delivered to the house this afternoon. They spent the day bouncing around in a mail truck. 🤬
One of my Wheaten Marans is broody... that's the 3rd hen in 3 months. The first hen gave up after I kept moving her. The second has 5 chicks to mother, and I just ordered hatching eggs... This is the last time! I swear!
3 girls looking for new homes. All sweet, but my favorite is the Columbian Wyandotte/Easter Egger mix who is named Sophia Lor-hen!

These little ones hatched yesterday! Crevecoeur Roo over Easter Eggers, olive Egger and Marans.
Getting ready for some hens to find new homes... Buff Orpington, Marans-Austrlorp mix, Sulmtalers, and a few more.
Frustration is entering events in an online calendar (more than 1) and discovering that they have vanished... I did find it on the old fashioned paper calendar in the kitchen... now I know that I may have eggs hatching this week and next!
Crevie went to his new home last night... sigh, now I feel like a mom who's child has left home for another city! Thank you Kellyn Grau! 💗
Princeton, NJ. Gorgeous and friendly young Crevecoeur rooster looking for new harem... Hatch date Nov 27, 2020 he is 25 weeks old. He refuses to crow under the radar and we're not allowed to have roosters. Please share and/or pm me. Princeton area. I need to rehome him ASAP.😔😔
My Silver Spitzhauben (hatch date November 27, 2020) is getting ready to lay... She is watching the nestboxes and following the hens that lay under the nestboxes! I wonder when I will find a new egg???☺
Please tell me that my much loved Crevecoeur is not a cockerel! She has grown a saddle overnight...
She/he is a gentle giant, larger than the rest of the flock, and was recently being bullied by a much smaller Quail Brabanconne who pulled out a lot of her crest which is now growing back. The QB is now wearing blinders and can be seen in the first photo.
I am thinking of trying a no-crow collar. Has anyone been successful with these? I may have to rehome him...

My beautiful Pavlovskaya pullet has decided that she is a he! He is on the right side in the tree... hard to miss! He is in need of a home asap. Please message me for details.
I have a crevecoeur pullet who is 12 weeks old who loves to be involved in everything that I do... she will even put her beak up to the Percussion drill while I'm putting in screws... she is a very curious girl who loves to talk.
All 5 of the 12 week old chicks are out in the run! The dark chick is the Pavlovskaya and the Crevecoeur is the grey on the ground under the roost.
The Alpenzeller Spizhauben 12 week old chicks are out in the run. Who cares if it is 23°???
I usually review footage after dark to be certain that all 5 chicklets are in the coop. I stopped the tape for a moment and hear an odd sound, so I checked the camera in the run. The automatic door was shut and there were 4 hens still outside... so I went down and let them into the coop... an hour later I continued the review and realized that one of the chicks was missing... so back down I went and after looking everywhere I found the little Spitz pullet on the ladder roost being very, very quiet. Yes, I am crazy about my chickens!
Our Crested Polish hen laid her first egg after investigating the nest boxes for a week. Now I just need to get down there in between the rest of the hens!
The Hedemora chicks are now 5 weeks old! 3 grey and 2 black. Some with feathered legs, some without. Still waiting to determine if any are furred!
Fauxbar is my Cream Crested Legbar hen who does not look like the other pullets in her hatch... I am so glad that I took a chance and decided to keep one of the "roos" because I couldn't believe that 90% of the hatch was cockerels... Her coloring is off, but she is definitely a Legbar. She is a mouthy girl and has been laying beautiful blue eggs for over a month. She clucks for close to 15 minutes before getting into the nest, and then for another 5 after she lays her egg! Sally Ride, the Sulmtaler hen is more secretive about her laying. #Legbars #layinghens #sumtalerchickens #backyardchickens
Quail Brabanconne and Sulmtaler hens already laying. Brabanconne is in the front Sulmtaler is in the back at the fence. PM if interested. Pinrceton-SouthBrunswick NJ. Hatched from Greenfire farms direct hatching eggs. Raised on Scratch and Peck NonGMO Organic Fermented Feed.
