We are the proud owners of the first legal backyard chickens on less than 5 acres in South Brunswick We practice bio-security and have a closed flock.

Coop deGrass started as a simple backyard flock with only brown egg breeds. But then I discovered Green eggs, and Blue eggs and rare breeds. We now sell Day Old Chicks, pullets, and the occasional Point of Lay Hen. OUR STORY IN REVERSE!·

A year without chickens is too long! Building a new coop and starting all over again...

Today, my last 6 hens went to their new home. It was a hard choice to make, but I haven’t been able to spend time with them, and that is why I had them. My chickens were never egg laying machines, they were little fluffy butts that made me laugh. Who knew that you could bond with a chicken??? I certainly didn’t think that would happen. Live and learn. Chickens can enrich your life in ways you could never imagine. Thank you, girls.

This year we added Olive Eggers to our flock, as well as 1 Blue Birchen Marans pullet and 1 Welbar pullet. Several of the young Cream Crested Legbar pullets have started to lay, and it looks like they are laying blue eggs! Update: Effective February 27, 2018 South Brunswick Township now allows backyard chickens on 1/4 acre! https://cms.centraljersey.com/2018/03/13/farming-community-of-south-brunswick-updates-regulations-on-chickens/
We are thrilled to have helped to change the zoning ordinance! Effective August 2017, Coop de Grass no longer sells eggs, chicks, or chickens. This is necessary to abide by our township’s zoning ordinance. We have obtained a variance to maintain a flock of 8 hens, but no roosters. Although we miss our roos, we accept the decision and hope that eventually, we will have a home where we will be able to once again be greeted each day by our handsome fellows as well as our girls. June 2015 Coop de Grass started when I brought home 9 day old chicks .I wanted simple a backyard flock with only brown egg breed and eggs for our consumption. But then I discovered Green eggs, and Blue eggs and rare breeds, which led to the discovery of Chicken Math...
