We’ve received quite a few questions concerning this year’s muzzleloader season and what hunting equipment can be used. Hunters in Zone 3 and Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Muskegon, Isabella, Midland and Bay counties may use all legal fi****ms (any firearm you were allowed to use on November 15). This information is also in the Hunting Digest on page 50.

We hope that information helps and good luck if you’re heading out for the remainder of deer season.

Archery deer season is about to begin. With it, we wanted to offer a couple of reminders for folks planning to hunt this weekend.

First, purchasing your tags online is convenient, but they can take 7-10 business days to arrive. Tags must be physically in your possession to hunt, so it would be best to hit up a location that sells hunting licenses.

Also, deer harvest reporting is mandatory beginning this year. Successful hunters have 72 hours to report their harvest, but friends and family can report for you if you need assistance.
