We use fear free techniques to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress and create an experience that is more enjoyable and safer for the cats who board at the Cat Cottage at B&B Farm.

We are not like traditional boarding facilities or vet hospitals; you will be disappointed if this is your expectation. We are cats-only, and we are force free. We do not use condos; cats get their own bedrooms with lovely views of the farm. In addition to feline decor, there is human furniture in the rooms that cats can hide under if they’re feeling insecure. We respect a cat’s boundaries and wait for their consent before approaching or touching.

We sometimes will get a notice from a client that they are running late because they can’t catch their cat. So traumatic and not how we want their visit to start.

After being pampered and relaxed during their stay, we need to get them ready for check out. Please note that we do not wrangle cats into their carriers. They either willingly go into their carriers or the owner will need to come inside and get them loaded. We will help carry everything out of the house and place inside your vehicle. If this sounds inconvenient then we are not the facility for you, even though your cats might love it.

Well ahead of your scheduled boarding date (would prefer that it be all the time), please work on training your cat to be comfortable going into their carrier without resistance. You can do it!! Here are some tips to set them up for success.

My inbox is FILLED with animals. Animals from shelters, surrender requests, rescue transfers, etc. Specifically a lot of underage puppies, moms and babies, and pregnant dogs and cats.

After being cussed out today and asked “what kind of rescue even am I”, I want to make it abundantly clear that if you ask me to take a pregnant cat or dog, I am going to spay it. I will literally cancel an appointment for another animal, to make room for that spay abort. I/we/you/them/us no matter how you slice it, do NOT need anymore puppies or kittens born. Not a one. Zip, zilch, ZERO. And IDGAF if they are purebred, small breed, cute and fluffy, merle, etc. They are getting spayed ASAP.

🗣️🗣️ SPAY 👏 AND👏 NEUTER 👏 YOUR 👏 PETS 👏!!!

Fourth of July festivities are fun and filled with celebrations, however, we must remember to keep our pets safe and happy. 🐕 🐈

Reminders for the holiday:
👉 Take your pet for a walk or play with them to get some energy out before the celebrations begin.
👉 Don’t leave your pet outside during fireworks. Place them inside with food, water, and maybe their favorite toy.
👉 Keep party food and alcohol away from your pet.
👉 Make sure your pets are wearing ID tags and their chip information is up-to-date.
👉 Clean up hazardous foods, drinks, and other items immediately after the festivities.

Please be aware!

For many graduates, their college degrees come at the end of at least four years spent roaming the campus. Max, a 6-year-old tabby, is no different.

We see this a lot... pet parents searching for a pet sitter or dog walker, but the first comment is: "I'm looking for someone who doesn't charge an arm and a leg..."

When you consider the pet-care experience and specialized training professional pet sitters and dog walkers have and the customized care they provide, these pet-care professionals are worth FAR MORE than they charge.

Of course, you have to work within your budget, but lowest price does not mean the best option—and professional pet-care providers should be fairly compensated.

Remember, you get what you pay for—and your pets deserve quality care!

Grandma’s cat “Kitty” went missing a little over a week ago from her apartment in Pittsburgh. It’s believed that someone in the building who wasn’t a fan of cats took Kitty and then he somehow ended up in our facility as a “stray.” We’ll never know all the details, but needless to say Kitty has had a rough week.

How would shelter staff know that Kitty had a family five hours away that were looking for him? And how would Kitty’s family know he was safe but sitting in a shelter in Maryland waiting for them?

A teeny tiny microchip implanted in between Kitty’s shoulder blades several years ago is what saved the day.

When he entered our facility, staff gave him a quick scan with a microchip reader and got the chip number. Staff contacted the chip company and because his family registered the chip and kept their contact info up to date, they were able to make contact with them!

His family made the ten hour round trip drive today to pick him up. This big boy is thrilled to head back to Pittsburgh with his very devoted family! ❤️❤️❤️

This story is a fantastic example of why microchipping is so so so important. Just as important is making sure your pet’s microchip is registered and up to date with your contact info. Microchips also help to establish ownership, which is very helpful in cases where pets are stolen.

And in case we need to state the obvious, don’t take other people’s pets!
