How it came to be

These are my two cats, Tiger and Teddy. I’ll let you guess who is who. :) But these 2 rock my world. Tiger is the curious one, very independent, but loves hugs at the same time, and Teddy is the skittish one, unless he decides he likes you, then he will beg you to sit down for “TV time” which is code for shoving his head in your hand and waving his tail around to distract you from watching TV. I love these two, so this is where I decided to start to tell my story, because even though my love of pets didn’t begin with these two the love of animals has surely projected throughout my life and into my business.

Ever since I could remember I was begging my Grandma to let me bring a barn kitten inside for a few hours, or pleading with my mom to go to the pet store to play with the puppies, or excitedly skipping down the street to go give horses near my Grandma’s house carrots. I plotted with my brother to persuade my dad to let us get my first pet at age 5. Her name was Dusty and she was a barn cat that we took from my Grandpap’s farm. So, since that victory, I charmed my way into getting my first dog Steel, then 2 cats Tom and Jerry. Later, we were gifted Molly, then came Tiger and Teddy and my first horse, Toga, at age 12. I sure was one lucky girl

Out of my passion for animals, grew my passion for business. Again, since I was little (some dreams are given to you when your a little girl, so you can grow into them...so I’ve heard) I would stare out the window on the long rides to Grandma’s house and think about what my own pet business would look like. I’d day dream about having an animal rescue called, “Second Chance” and having an awesome cat room with cat walls that cats would climb and walk all over the walls. I’d dream of a bunch of dogs all splashing in a pool together and having anti-crate facility.

Fast forward to college. My passion grew for horses and riding and so I decided I wanted to combine my love for animals and business and decided to achieve an equine business management degree (only offered in a few schools in the states). So I chose St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC. Not only did they offer this major but they also had an amazing Hunt Seat, Western and Dressage team and a barn SO BIG that it boarded over 100 horses. It is beautiful. Here, I was able to expand my dream and be educated in the way that would allow me to brainstorm ideas, gather information and equip me with resources and guidance along my journey. High School allowed me to lay the seed for what my future business would look like and college allowed me to see the steps it would take to achieve it.
