STOP SENDING YOUR DOGS TO BOARD AND TRAIN! You have no idea how your dog is being treated. If you are sending your dog off to board and receive training, please be sure you are using a POSITIVE trainer and prefer you pick up your dog daily.

Just a few of the allegations in the warrant...

- Holding down the button on a shock collar until the dog vomited.

- Shocking a dog continuously until his eyes were bloodshot.

- Hitting a puppy with a PVC pipe 52 times.

- “Punch with his hands” and held down the shock collar remote “for an unreasonable amount of time” on “Tucker” a lab type dog

I'm not saying that ALL B&T's are like this or even the ones that use aversive techniques, however, YOU are responsible for the safety of the dog YOU chose to bring into your home. If you are not interested in working or developing a relationship with your dog, which includes being a part of your dog's learning of life skills, then don't get a dog.

I'm sick about this! Stay tuned because Gray will be bringing POSITIVE training to hunting dogs because IT CAN BE DONE! If we can teach Rottweilers to locate missing children in ALL kinds of environments without EVER using a shock collar, e-collar, or prong collar, then you can teach a dog that is GENETICALLY bred to hunt without causing trauma and physical harm.

Aggression in dogs is a natural behavior used for survival, resource guarding, territory protection, and responding to threats within their environment.

Aggression is expressed based on genetics, experience, environment, socialization, health, and individual temperament.

If your dog shows aggressive behavior it is often because previous warnings failed to address the stressful situation. “Out of the blue” is a rare occurrence as aggressive behavior is usually rooted in trauma and medical conditions.

Aggressive behavior in dogs can be influenced by the gut-brain axis, involving gut microbiota, brain communication, diet, stress, and overall health.

However, aggressive behavior can decrease with a secure attachment; as trust, safety, and emotional stability help reduce fear, anxiety, and defensive behaviors.

Aversive techniques and tools can increase aggressive behavior in dogs by causing fear, anxiety, stress, and damaging the human-animal bond.

A holistic approach addresses aggressive behavior by considering the dog's body and mind; promoting overall well-being, harmony, and healing for lasting behavioral change.

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) can reduce aggressive behavior by addressing underlying thoughts and emotions promoting healthier coping mechanisms and emotional responses.

As a Fear-Free, Canine Behavior Specialist, I help by addressing aggressive behavior by considering the dog's physical, emotional, and genetic needs for respectful and harmonious solutions.

DogSpeak will be holding our Level 1 Real Life Rover Classes on Tuesday nights at FPH. It’s a series of 6 classes running from May 28th through July 9th beginning at 7:00 PM (we will not hold class on July 2nd).

This class focuses on basic behaviors such as place, stay, recall and relaxed walking on the leash. We’ll also teach you how to “capture” and put on cue the behaviors they already know how to do such as sit and down. We see each dog as an individual and recognize that learning is impacted by genetics, environment and their own personality. Not only do we teach your dog, but we focus on teaching you as well. Our classes are relaxed and fun so you and your dog can really enjoy the process of learning.
