Summer Time Calendar Reminder – for 2025

Summer fun: showing, trail riding and driving, foals growing, kids laughing, and anyone enjoying the sun and goofing around with Moriesians:

It will be so great to look back at the year, with your horse on the 2025 Moriesian Horse Calendar. All Moriesians from any registry or part of the world is welcome to contribute photos.

The Moriesian horse calendar is dependent on your contributions! We are looking for lots of new photos this year so we do not have to draw from the past.

Please send originals to the MHR – [email protected] or via Messenger. Facebook posts are often not in a large enough size to use.

4th of July Parade - Oak Harbor WA. RBD Mi Amigo, 5 year old Moriesian bred by Sue Olsen Rafter Bar D Morgans & Moriesians,
was amazing at his first public, busy, noisy, confusing outing. Fortunately he had a flatbed of hay to follow and grab mouthfuls from, and his only refusal was to step on sewer manhole covers. We were all from Iron Mills Ranch of Coupeville, WA, known for its beginner horseback riding lessons, Hippotherapy and Kids Summer Ranch Camp. There's nothing better than kids and horses, and all the riders, who took turns on the three horses, had a super fun time! Zee, owned by Ronnie, and Kevin Shambaugh and Django, Led by Dakota Mills, were perfect gentlemen!

Spring Calendar Reminder – for 2025

Spring is finally here! With better weather we all have more horse time: riding or driving, starting showing, or goofing around the paddock. It is the season for foals and upcoming weddings.

In the 2025 calendar, we will honor Moriesians who have passed (in the Month of May), in remembrance of the place they played in our lives and hearts.

The Moriesian horse calendar is dependent on your contributions! We are looking for 50 to 60 new photos this year so we do not have to draw from the past.

Please send originals to the MHR – [email protected] or via Messenger. Facebook posts are often not in a large enough size to use.

This has been quite a winter and you must have some amazing pictures!

The Moriesian horse calendar is dependent on your contributions! We are looking for 50 to 60 new photos this year so we do not have to draw from the past.

These were taken years ago in New England, and now I live in WA mud. You can do far better!

Thank you!

MORE CONGRATULATIONS! We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Miles Awards:

Moriesian Miles: for those who spend non-competitive time with their Moriesian(s): trail riding, camping, pleasure driving, lessons, parades, clinics, and other events. The MHR honors those who are putting on miles and spending hours promoting the Moriesian breed.

We acknowledge the amount of work, practice, time, and energy you put into your horses and educating others about the breed. Bravo!
Winner: Ellie and Ron Jensen of Twin Artesian Stables - 639 hours. They have dedicated their lives to giving riding lessons, while teaching life lessons (mostly to children), hosting clinics, and participating in educational events. Ellie writes that the Moriesians they have bred and raised have ideal dispositions for beginners, while allowing advanced riders to excel in the show ring and succeed in many disciplines. With their family-friendly temperament and their drive to excel - their stable’s slogan is “Not just another pretty face.” They have exciting news soon to be released. They have rebuilt their herd with new goals: their stallions will soon be creating a name for themselves following Opus Black Mikasa’s (their foundation Moriesian) footsteps. Well done Ellie and Ron!

Second Place: Tamara Turgeon with Nanne’s Brandia Dancer (Tristan) - 512 hours. Tamara participated in non-judged events, ground sessions, lessons, free rides, horsemanship clinics. Tamara writes that 96 of her hours were done with a severe back injury that prevented her from competing for the first time since the 2016 awards. In 2022 Tamara competed at the Western Dressage World Championship Show in Guthrie, OK, and won the Moriesian Breed Award! Tamara and Tristan exhibit a unique relationship of deep trust and connectedness. Her training has created a beautifully balanced, forward, and willing partner, and stand as an excellent example of Moriesian versatility! Best to and your partner as you re-enter the show ring in 2024!

CONGRATULATIONS are in order! We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Competition Awards:
The Awards Program recognizes registered Moriesians competing against other breeds. The versatility of the Moriesian is exhibited in the variety of disciplines in which they compete and the MHR honors those who excel.
We acknowledge the amount of work, practice, time, and energy you put into your horses. Bravo!

Dressage: Dressage scoring is based on the best four rides under three different judges. The following 2 divisions received top scores.

Training Level: Giadia’s Maximus Masterpiece, ridden by Katherine Mlostek, and owned by Sherri Johnson scored an average of 60.904. Sherri writes: “Every show we go to, be it in-hand or dressage, we are asked what breed is he? When told Moriesian, sometimes it is followed by " I want one! "

First Level: Charlotte Adams with Redoy Red (Blaze). Charlotte and Blaze scored an average of 64.419. They received First Level Champion Award for the year 2023 at the Three Rivers Equestrian Awards Banquet. Charlotte writes “I am so proud of my little boy.” Well done!

In Hand: Includes Showmanship, Halter, and Breeding classes – Dressage, Sport Horse, and Hunter – at open shows. Top scores of up to 10 classes from at least 3 different shows are counted for points. MHR Points received are based on placement and class size.

Sherri Johnson and Max showed in two out of the required three shows, which does not qualify for an award. However, her placements in ten classes, including a Championship in Buckskin Color and a Reserve Grand Championship in Halter Geldings, are a great acknowledgement of her promoting Moriesians. Sherri writes “Maximus really loves the showing. He is inquisitive, brave and loves the action.”

Attention Moriesian Owners

The 2023 Moriesian calendar again is fabulous! Sue outdoes herself every year and it is so lovely to see the variety of photos that show how widespread and well-loved the breed is. The beauty and quality of these remarkable horses is visible every month.

I am a bit late at reminding you that we have until the middle of October to send photos to Sue. The more photos she receives to select from gives her a better opportunity to make a fabulous 2024. Please email them to Sue at [email protected]

Remember to send original (not from Facebook posts) pictures of your horses and foals, showing, trail riding, driving, or just hanging out being beautiful. The calendar will again honor all Moriesians from any Morgan/Friesian cross registry. Last year photos came from several different countries. Thank you!

This is the only Moriesian calendar in the world! Except for the year of COVID the MHR has offered calendars of the breed. Let us make 2024 an awesome, inclusive one with as many Moriesians as possible. It is the photos that make the calendar!

The Moriesian Horse Registry welcomes Megan Lucas and her c**t RBD Jay's Roman Dream who will become her foundation Moriesian stallion. We wish you much joy and success in your breeding program!

RBD Jay's Roman Dream
(Amberfields Blaze N Dun x Marieke fan North Ster)
2023 Grulla Moriesian C**t (Notice he is molting already and you can see the black legs coming through and the gray grulla color)
50% Morgan 50% Friesian

From Sue Olson, breeder:
A big
CONGRATULATIONS
to Megan Lucas, who chose this c**t for her future breeding stallion. She kindly asked if I would mind if she could change his name to something of great meaning to her. Of course I would do that
Jay is her dad's name and he’s the one that shared his passion for horses with Megan. Roman is a name she always had in mind for her dream stallion. And Dream is because she said, " I have always been called a dreamer my entire life, and my “dream” in life has always been to get a stud c**t and raise him from a foal."
Roman is going to be Megan's lifelong riding partner and breeding stallion, if his hormones allow it, and they should. I love that she knows he's a prospect and is willing to geld him if need be. Her dream and plan is to selectively breed quality Moriesians, and so in the future this c**t may be available to Morgan, Friesian and Moriesian mares. This is very exciting and Megan and her husband are still working on a farm name and prefix.
We are excited to meet Megan and her family this fall when we deliver Roman to Rineyville, Kentucky.
Moriesian friends, please connect with Megan. She's excited to join our Moriesian family and looking forward to learning more. This is her first stallion, and she will be looking for a few mares in the future too. Let's help them start a successful breeding program.

Tamara and Tristan are heading into their last day of dressage tests at the World Championship show. So far, they have won 3 World Championships, 3 Reserve World Championships and a Top 5.

Tamara’s skilled leadership plus Tristan’s athletic, willing and level headed Moriesian qualities have created a remarkable team. And Tristan must be the best dressed horse there!

The MHR sends them the best for today! Congratulations on all you have and are doing! We are all in awe and very proud!

We are Heading to the Worlds!!

The MHR is excited to announce that Tamara Turgeon and her Moriesian gelding Nanne’s Brandia Dancer will be heading to the 2022 Western Dressage Association of America World Championship Show in Guthrie Oklahoma, September 27 – October 1st. Tamara and Tristan have been a team since 2016. Starting their journey on the local show circuit Western Dressage classes, they fell in love with the discipline. In 2020 the COVID pandemic opened the world up to virtual showing and this team took the opportunity on full force, competing in as many Western Dressage shows as they could. This year, with international travel open again, they are looking forward to proudly representing the Moriesian breed in person! They will be competing in Intro and Basic Open Division classes. If you would like to follow along, the show will be live streamed on Total Horse Channel www.totalhorsechannel.com

Tamara and Tristan leave Canada the 21st. We all wish them safe travels and a fabulous experience showing!

MHR March Update

I want to notify anyone planning to register a Moriesian this winter that I will be out of the country the entire month of March. My daughter and family live in Dharamshala India and I haven’t seen Jen since August 2018, thank you COVID.

I suggest sending applications in by Feb 15th if you would like certificates before I leave.

During March applications can still be received and DNA started for mares and stallions. I will send out registration papers in April.

I appreciate your patience and understanding. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Last Call for 2022 Calendar Photos!!!

Thank you everyone who has sent in photos. Sue says we still need more for all times of the year, especially winter: snowy or sleigh rides. Filling the winter months is a challenge. Some of us don’t live in the snow but for those who do the calendar wouldn’t be right without snowy pics in Dec. and Jan.

Sue would like all photos in by October 20th so she can submit the calendar by the end of the month. That way they will be done in November and can be purchased before the end of the year!

Email them to Sue as soon as possible to: [email protected].

We need LOTS of photos. Sue Olson is willing to create the calendar for us provided she receives them soon. She has done a lovely job past years – see the samples - and it will be inspiring to see the beauty of these remarkable horses.
