Every year Almost Home helps many orphaned neonates and premature kittens. Most are found without a mom and all are in need of 24 hour care to help them survive.
This year we had several surrenders of newborn kittens. Many were premature or very sick needing critical care. Some kittens were not able to bottle feed and needed to be tube fed every 2 hours. Tube feeding is where a tube is placed down the esophagus, and into the stomach. They all needed to be in a temperature control incubator. Newborn kittens, and especially preemie kittens, cannot regulate their body temperature on their own. The incubator keeps the kittens nice and helps regulate their body temperature. We can also provide oxygen, and nebulizer treatments in the incubator as well.
Almost Home is known for the success rate of saving the lives of these very fragile neonates and preemies. With your donation we would be able to purchase more incubators, and the medical supplies needed to continue to help these tiny little ones.
Please help support Almost Home with a donation through Colorado Gives Day. Every donation will help us continue to save lives!

Tali was born in foster care with a rare heart condition. For months she had multiple vet visits and consultations with specialists to try and figure out what would be the best way to help Tali with her heart condition. It was scary for Tali but she always had her brother by her side to comfort her when she needed it. He even went to Tali’s appointments with her. They definitely have an inseparable loving bond. Tali was in foster care for over 6 months getting big and strong enough for her surgery. She was finally stable and old enough for her procedure. We were all so worried about Tali, but she made it through her surgery with no complications and recovered quickly.
Their foster mom knows that there is a possibility Tali could have a shorter life expectancy due to her heart condition. She was nervous about the heartache that may come, but she couldn’t imagine life without Tali and her brother, so she decided to adopt both of them and give them their forever loving home! She knows every day they have together is a bonus day and will love them with all her heart.

Lexie was abandoned at Almost Home. She was found early in the morning outside of our door. We noticed right away that she was very pregnant. Once in our care we immediately noticed that she was very weak and extremely ill. Lexie was dangerously anemic and we prayed that she would not go into labor until she was healthy and stable enough to have kittens. Unfortunately, the day after she was abandoned she went into labor. She was too weak and sick to give birth naturally and needed to have an emergency c-section.
All 5 of her kittens needed to be revived once they were born. With the hard work of their medical team all 5 kittens survived! However, Lexie continued to have complications after her c-section. Her condition required her to need antibiotics and to be on oxygen for nearly a week after giving birth.
Lexie did not get to meet her kittens until the following day after her emergency c-section. Because she was so sick she was only able to spend a short amount of time with them. Her kittens needed to be supplemented with a bottle every 2 hours until Lexie was well enough to care for them.
Lexie received round the clock care from Almost Home and her anemia started to improve without needing a blood transfusion. She started to be able to spend more time with her kittens and we were able to wean her off of the oxygen and reunite her with her kittens permanently.
She was such a good mama to them!
Lexie and her kittens made a full recovery and all have found their forever loving homes. Lexie even got to go home with one of her kittens!!

Mikey was surrendered to Almost Home with a severe injury to his eye. He also tested positive for FIV an autoimmune disease that weakens the immune system. Because of this diagnosis we were worried he would have a hard time fighting off any infections caused by the injury.
Unfortunately, the injury to his eye was so bad that he needed to have it removed.
Mikey received love and the medical care he needed until he was stable enough for his surgery.
His surgery was a success and he continued to become a strong and healthy boy!
Mikey was adopted into his forever loving home, and gained a new kitty friend as well!
He is now living his best life safe and loved by his new family.

Scout was surrendered to Almost Home when he was only 3 weeks old. He was a little dirty but a healthy little bottle baby with a sweet personality.
With love and care in his foster home, Scout grew up to be a handsome and curious little kitten.
Shortly after Scout was adopted he became very sick and was surrendered back to Almost Home to receive life saving medical care.
Scout was receiving critical care by Almost Home that included 86 days of injectable medications, oxygen therapy, and support care. Scout started to slowly recover from his illness because of the care Almost Home gave him. He started eating on his own and continued to get stronger every day.
Because of the care Scout received from Almost Home he made a full recovery and was reunited with his best friend that he was adopted with originally!

Happy Friday!
Do you remember Lexie and her kittens?
Well, they are all doing so well and are now at Almost Home available for adoption!!
For those of you that don’t know Lexie’s story, she was left at our door when we were not open. She was very pregnant and extremely sick. She was so anemic that she needed to be on oxygen and was on the verge of needing a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, she went into labor the day after she was abandoned, and because she was so sick, she was unable to have her kittens naturally, and needed an emergency c-section. All of her kittens needed to be revived after birth and Lexie continued to need critical care the first few weeks of having her. Once she was feeling better Lexie was reunited with her kittens and was such a good mama!!
Here is a video of them at the rescue being adorable 🥰.
I also share some updates and other news in the video.
Enjoy!
