Meet Gypsy!

This sweet girl is looking for a loving home! 💕 Gypsy is a 10-month-old Doberman mix who arrived at DRU with her mom and littermates last November. Her DNA results show she’s primarily Doberman (51%) and Australian Cattle Dog (39%), with a touch of Miniature Schnauzer (9%) and 1% other—but we say she’s 100% sweetheart!

Gypsy may be a little shy at first, but once she warms up, she’s all love. She hasn’t had much exposure to the world, so she needs a patient adopter who can help her build confidence and experience new things at her own pace. She’s doing great with housebreaking, is crate trained, and is highly food-motivated, making training a rewarding experience. She also loves toys and is great on walks!

At 40 pounds, Gypsy is the perfect medium-sized companion for someone looking for a devoted, soft-hearted friend. Her Doberman mom has already found her forever home—now it’s Gypsy’s turn!

This handsome, red, natural/docked boy is just under two years old and absolutely loves the snow! ❄️❄️ Full of energy, Zeus would thrive in a home with a fenced-in yard where he can run and stay active.

Zeus walks well on a leash but can be reactive to other dogs, so he’s looking for a calm, structured home without other pets. A busy household would be too much for him, but with one-on-one attention and ongoing training, Zeus will be a loyal, loving companion for life.

🐾 Look at that handsome face! 😍🐾

Rocky is a 7-month-old Doberman with a sharp mind, a big heart, and plenty of puppy energy to spare! This smart and eager-to-learn boy has made great progress in his previous home—he knows how to sit, give paw, and wait patiently for his meals.

Like any young Doberman, Rocky needs plenty of exercise, structure, and mental stimulation. Without enough activity, he gets bored—and when Rocky gets bored, trouble follows! He’s been known to do a little redecorating.

Despite his antics, Rocky is a loving and social dog. However, his previous owner worked long hours and wasn’t able to give him the time and training he needed to thrive.

Rocky would do best in an active home with someone experienced in raising Dobermans or other high-energy working breeds. He’s smart, trainable, and full of potential—he just needs the right environment to channel his energy into being the best boy he can be!

He may do well with a friendly female dog. Rocky is still recovering from his recent neuter but is ready for meet-and-greets with interested adopters!

DRU Dog Update!!!

The six Dobermans from California arrived safely in the early hours of Thursday morning! 🐾 This group includes two adults and four puppies, all incredibly sweet dogs who just need time to settle in.

We are accepting applications, but please note that these dogs will need time to decompress, be seen by our vet, and be handled by our staff to learn more about their needs before being ready for adoption.

Another transport from California is coming in approximately two weeks! This ongoing rescue effort, in partnership with Bella and Sunshine Rescue, is saving Dobermans from overcrowded shelters, freeing up space for other dogs in need.

Happy Dance for Max!

Max arrived at DRU just two weeks ago after his previous owner realized they weren’t home enough to give him the care and attention he deserved. Today, he’s off to start a wonderful new chapter with his forever mom, Chicky!

Not only will Max have someone by his side all day long, but he’ll also have a new best friend—DRU Tia—to keep him company!

A Very Special Adoption Day for Shotzie! 🐾❤️🎉🐾

Sometimes finding the perfect forever home takes time, but when it happens, it’s truly meant to be.

Shotzie’s journey was not an easy one—born in April 2020, she found herself in two homes before she was even five months old. Her second owner struggled with her deep distrust of people and, in July 2021, made the difficult decision to surrender her to DRU.

When Shotzie arrived, it was clear she was more than just a Doberman in her mix, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was giving her the time, patience, and love she needed to feel safe. Trust didn’t come easily for Shotzie—she was cautious, hesitant, and for some, she never let her guard down. Because of her challenges and not looking like a full Doberman, she was often overlooked. But to us, she was family.

Over the next three years, Shotzie thrived in the safety of DRU, and among the people who cared for her, one person stood out—Ellyn, a dedicated volunteer. They formed a deep connection, but Shotzie remained at DRU, the place she knew as home.

Then, life took a turn. Ellyn’s beloved Doberman, DRU Duke, passed away, leaving a space in her heart and home. And just like that, the bond they had built over the years became something even more special—forever.

Now, at almost five years old, Shotzie has finally found her perfect person. Ellyn and Shotzie were meant to be, and their journey together proves that sometimes, finding the perfect home takes time, but when it happens, it’s magic.

To add to this beautiful new beginning, Ellyn has affectionately renamed her Foxy—a fitting name for a girl who has finally found her place in the world.

Congratulations, Foxy and Ellyn! We couldn’t be happier for you both. This is what rescue is all about—patience, love, and second chances.

We are thrilled to announce that six Dobermans from California will be arriving this week, with more expected in two weeks. This ongoing effort, in partnership with Bella and Sunshine Rescue is making a difference for dogs impacted by the devastation of the California wildfires.

By taking in one Doberman, we free up space in shelters for another dog in need. Together, we are helping these deserving animals get a second chance at life.

Rudy's Adoption Day!

Rudy came to DRU in August as a shelter transfer and has been under our care to address his medical needs before being cleared for adoption. During the initial meet and greet, Rudy’s new dad, Conrad, knew Rudy was the one. Conrad patiently waited until Rudy was ready to go home—and today is the day!

🌸 Meet Daisy! 🌸
Daisy is just a few months shy of turning seven and is well-known to the DRU family—this is her second time with us. Daisy first arrived at DRU in April 2023, quickly found a home, and was adopted in July 2023. Sadly, her owner developed medical issues and could no longer care for her. Daisy was a loyal companion and partner, and her owner’s family brought her back to us to help her find her next chapter.

Back in the day, Daisy earned the nickname “Crazy Daisy” for her spunky personality. Now, she’s affectionately called “Lazy Daisy”—and for good reason! This laid-back girl loves doing... absolutely nothing. Her ideal life involves a warm house, a comfy bed, and her own special person to tell her how beautiful she is all day long.

Since returning to DRU, Daisy has taken on the role of Front Office Supervisor. While she snoozes on her bed, she keeps a watchful eye on the staff—though we suspect she’s mostly making sure she doesn’t miss a treat! She’s not a fan of much activity but will happily announce the arrival of the UPS driver. (We’re pretty sure Daisy thinks the deliveries are all for her—because, let’s face it, it is all about Daisy.)

Daisy would thrive in a quiet home where she can soak up love and attention. She prefers to be the only pet so she can have all the affection to herself.

Daisy is currently on medications to manage incontinence and thyroid issues. She also has a few lumps and maybe a couple of extra pounds—but that just means there’s more of her to love! She’s a low-maintenance, sweet girl who just needs someone willing to provide her with the care and attention she deserves.

Meet Calyx and Tristan!!

Calyx and Tristan arrived at DRU in mid-November after their owner faced housing challenges, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Calyx is a confident, 4-year-old cropped and docked Doberman with an endless love for tennis balls and soaking up all the attention she can get. She’s obedient, personable, and full of energy!

Her son, Tristan, is a sweet and shy 2 ½-year-old Doberman mix. While he’s more reserved, his gentle personality shines through when he’s playing with his favorite piggy toy. Tristan looks to Calyx for confidence, and their bond is heartwarming.

Since arriving at DRU, they’ve shared everything—room, meals, playtime, and naps. Calyx’s leadership helps Tristan feel safe, and together, they make a perfect pair.

We truly believe that Calyx and Tristan would do best in a home together, where they can continue to support and bring out the best in each other. A home without cats, dogs, or other small animals, and with adults only, would be ideal.

The holidays are fast approaching, and we are still doing our best to find loving homes for some of our shelter dogs. As of today, 47 dogs are still waiting for their forever families and will be spending the holiday here with us. On Christmas Day, we will be here, caring for them as if they were our own.
