Message from Owner: I placed Maverick in the backyard and closed the gate behind me. I even checked to make sure the Gate was secure and closed. It was secure when I walked away. I believe he was able to get to open with his two paws. He gets excited and runs up to people with his two paws up - he isn't aware of his own strength obviously because he's almost knocked my 73 year old mother to the ground. He had to have pawed at the gate and gotten it open like that somehow. I know for a fact the backyard gate was locked I always make sure to check also and it was completely closed. Please call if found.

Today is “National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day”. I think it’s kind of a difficult holiday to celebrate with your cat, but I found a couple ideas that may be helpful if you choose to celebrate this day.

“It’s all about sitting down with your cat and thinking about what questions they could be asking you in different situations. You then try to answer them and see if it helps you understand how you could improve your cat’s life and make them happier.”

Message from Owner: My cat pistachio ran out of the hse at night! We could not find her! She’s the sweetest snuggle bug but very afraid of strangers and is fast to run away. She is used to me calling her loudly and a high pitched “kittttttyyyyyyy” and usually comes running back to me. I’m miss her so much and it’s only been one day! I hope she comes back but I’m scared the coyotes got her in the night. Fearing the worst but praying for the best. Thank you!

Tips & Tricks Thursday -

The air is very dry and cool these days. If you notice that your pets seem itchy or have flaky skin, you may want to try a couple of these tips to help them feel more comfortable:

1. REGULAR GROOMING can improve their coats condition by removing dander, keeping shedding down and helping to distribute your pets natural oils. Brushing your dog or cat also affords you a chance to look for signs of infection or problems such as redness, broken skin, or swelling.
2. TOO FREQUENT BATHING can also cause skin to dry out and aggravate itchiness. Many shampoos may remove the natural oils protecting your dog from these conditions. You can use pet wipes to keep your dog smelling good in between baths without removing the oils from their skin and drying it out. Only bathe them this time of year if they are really, really stinky or have gotten into something.
3. Make sure your pets are PROPERLY HYDRATED. Dogs should drink the equivalent of 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. If you add water to their kibble, or if they eat a primarily wet food diet, that can be reduced.
4. RUN A HUMIDIFIER to no more then 30-50% levels. That helps comfort all of us in the house.

Twosome Tuesday -

There are benefits to having two cats, but they apply only when the two cats are well matched and have enough physical space to live together comfortably. One benefit is that the two cats provide each other with exercise, social interaction, and other forms of mental stimulation. Cats housed together have more opportunity to “be cats” by socializing and playing with each other, and this means they are less likely to be destructive or engage in other problematic behavior.

If your household can handle two cats that like each other, it can lead to so much entertainment and silliness for the owners to enjoy!!!
