Had another great evening at The Drawing Studio, Inc. for the kids reptile drawing! Next class is Mar 10th for any locals interested.
All the critters & kids alike were well behaved and had a fun educational evening!

2022 is the center photo, with more than 30 boarders (at one time) this December it was a tight fit but we always make it work!

Ringo the crested gecko was here for boarding recently, crested geckos are low maintenance and easy to care for but they deserve just as much space and enrichment as anything else! We found some new favorite foods during their stay too, lots of brand and flavor options available, Repashy, Pangea and more!

Another great class recently at the local Drawing Studio! 🎨✍️ Brought some new faces in for this one; Tully my rescue green iguana, a juvi leopard tort, a corn snake, a big ol' blue tongue skink, a CB blue spec rattler, some cave roaches along with some other subjects like bear skulls, snake hides and tortoise shells! 🐻🐍🐢🪳

Give them a follow for the next class dates! I bring reptiles by on occasion but they have lots of other classes!

Rex & Casey the Dragons! 🦖🦖
These two stayed for boarding recently, what a beautiful duo, Rex is such a heavy deep red and Casey is just full of the freckles!
*They are from the same household but do not cohab at home, nor here! Dragons are solitary for the most part and SS&S actually goes to length preventing the multiple boarding dragons from even seeing each other!

I first met Jake back when I volunteered at a parrot rescue, thankfully I still get to see him on occasion when his adopted forever family travels! He was naked years ago upon adoption, and will likely will never be fully feathered again, but that's okay, we love him just the way he is and full of personality!

Iguana eating fig treat

Sparky the big Green iguana (he's orange because it's breeding season currently for them), enjoying a fresh picked fig treat before lights out and bed time. 🫐😴 There are roughly 40 species of iguana world wide, the common green iguana being the most popular by far in the pet trade; and in my opinion iguanas make terrible pets for 95% of anyone getting an iguana. 👎🤷🏻‍♀️ They start small, cute and are cheap to obtain.. until they grow to the size of a young human, have a 4ft whip attached to them with bull's-eye accuracy, razor sharp nails, need a small bedroom sized enclosure and eat $200 in produce monthly, not to mention future vet visits and finding a qualified clinic. Anyone getting an iguana can expect easily several thousand going into proper enclosures, lighting, food and care with a life span upwards of 30yrs for greens; some iguanas live twice that long! 🦖💸🥗 And I have 3 of them personally.. 😅 Tucson, AZ www.scaledsittingandservices.com

Sulcata speed eating cactus

Just wanted to share this cute video of Rubble, my small Sulcata tortoise eating a section of fresh cactus pad, at x5 speed. She was done in just under 5 minutes, after eating two handfuls of fresh grass and a third bunch of weeds from the yard. 🌵🐢⌚ *Photos in comments!* She's growing so fast, just a few short years ago she could easily fit into the palm of my hand. Few more years from here and she's going to need a bigger secured run! 😬🧡 Honestly I don't know why so many people choose Sulcatas, there are much more manageably sized species out there. Really. Rubble here was a rescue case, I would never purposely buy a sulcata. I love her none the less! 😍🐢

My name is Chelsea Richardson and I have spent the last several years taking every opportunity I could find to further my knowledge and hands on experience working with every type of animal I could. Wild or captive, from critically endangered iguanas, hefty snakes to pint-sized, raising young birds, hawks to hummingbirds, parrots and other unique species while keeping my focus on captive reptiles and pushing my own husbandry and care beyond the basics.

I keep several types and species of reptile, amphibian and inverts myself and work to keep up with leading husbandry practices and assist other keepers in navigating husbandry to ensure their animal, whatever that may be, will have a valued and enriched life.

Husbandry: The science of caring for animals, term used to cover all aspects of care. From housing, lighting and diet to enrichment and medical care.
