We dropped by the Freeland cat cottage this afternoon to see how the cats there are doing and while we were there, we took a few photos to share. Do you want your pet(s) poorly drawn? We can help! We are accepting photo submissions through our website from now until 8am, August 30th. Each photo submission is $25 and goes toward our programs to help our vulnerable pet population.
Yes, some of us may lack in artistic talent but we’re willing to embarrass ourselves to create something you’ll find fun and original, while helping the animals in our care. Volunteers will be creating original works of art August 28th-August 30th which we'll share on social media. Whatever they come up with, please make sure your pets won't take it personally!

These triplets are almost too big now to snuggle all together on their perch! Orange Blossom, Strawberry, and Jack Sparrow—now known as Lily, Kelsey and Piglet—were adopted on Valentine's Day and seem to be thriving in their forever home. We love to see happy cats living their best lives! 😻
While we were in Freeland yesterday, we took Tino to visit a couple local businesses! After our visit to St. Augustine's in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, we stopped by Whidbey Island Bank and the Freeland Country Store, where Tino happily received plenty of treats, pets, and attention. Tino is a young pit bull mix and an absolute sweetheart who instantly wins over everyone he meets, and he is available for adoption! Learn more about him at waifanimals.org/tino.

WAIF was one of four Whidbey-based nonprofits to receive a generous gift of over $2,850 from St. Augustine's in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland! This donation came from the proceeds of the church's 2024 "Trash & Treasure" sale. Our fellow beneficiaries were the Whidbey Camano Land Trust, which protects natural spaces in Island County; Pamoja Place, which supports people of color and connects them with resources to help them thrive; and Whidbey Island Nourishes, which provides healthy meals and snacks to Whidbey youth. We were humbled and honored to be counted among these organizations that are doing such meaningful and important work in our community.
This morning, we took Tino down to Freeland to meet representatives of the church and the other beneficiaries of the sale. We are so grateful to be a part of such a caring, supportive, and connected community! We are all stronger and make a greater impact when we work together 🤍 Thank you, St. Augustine's in-the-Woods Episcopal Church!

Believed to be a Rottweiler/pitbull mix, Jules is only about a year old. This friendly girl has a lot of youthful playful energy and she loves to play fetch! On May 25, 2023, Betty (Crocker) gave birth to a large litter of puppies at our shelter. Today, Betty and 7 of her litter of 12 came to the shelter for a quick birthday celebration. We have been really puzzled as to why petite six-year-old kitty Serenity has not yet found a home. She has a cute as a button little round face with yellow-gold eyes and just a little stub of a tail. Her coat is soft as can be and she has a dainty manner. She’s a very affectionate kitty who loves to be petted. Serenity “kneads biscuits” with her paws when she is happy. Only about a year old, mixed breed Piper is a very sweet, happy, friendly, and enthusiastic pup. She’s a smart and treat motivated girl who knows how to sit and to shake hands. Piper loves to play fetch and although she doesn’t always bring the ball back, she sure has fun! Piper is in need of a home with no kids under 12 and where she will be the only pet. We’ve put together a video to show what a great dog Frances is. A 5-6-year-old Australian shepherd mix, she’s more laid back than most Australian shepherds. She’s a friendly, happy pup with a wonderful smile who loves belly rubs and her tennis ball. Shelter staff call her “an all-around good girl”. Beautiful 2-3-year-old tabby Tiki Cat is still up to her silly shenanigans at WAIF’s Oak Harbor cat adoption center so this afternoon we made a little video of her. You may remember her from a previous video that we made with her that involved catnip. There was no catnip today but she was having great fun chasing treats across the floor. In addition to her playful silliness, you can see that she is an affectionate kitty who loves to be petted. Although she loves people, Tiki Cat does not seem to care much for other cats so she is in need of a home where she will be the one and only. Three-year-old Belgian Malinois Anzo is just a gorgeous dog! He’s also a very, very smart, friendly, athletic, energetic, and playful fellow. He loves to play fetch and knows how to sit, shake hands, and stay. Anzo is looking for a home with no kids under 12 and no other animals. One of our awesome volunteer dog walkers caught some great video and photos of 2-year-old husky Abbott as he traversed an agility tunnel, joyfully caught raindrops running off the roof, scarfed down a puppicino, and lounged on some straw bales. Jinx (black) and Jello (torti) are 7-8-month-old kitties that came into WAIF separately but bonded overtime at the shelter. Jello is a special needs kitty as she has cerebellar hypoplasia, also known as “wobbly cat syndrome”. This is not painful to her or contagious but it does cause her to have issues with her balance and to stagger when she walks. Aside from that, she is a very sweet and curious kitten with a loving heart. Jinx is friendly, playful, and curious. Since they are closely bonded, they will need to be adopted together into a loving home. We have put together a little video to show the two kittens. The energetic and fun-loving kittens at the Oak Harbor cat adoption center have figured out how to use the big cat exercise wheel in the kitten room.
