**Attention All Big Cat Caretakers and Animal Enthusiasts!**

Feeding raw meat to big cats can introduce serious health risks due to avian influenza (bird flu). Here are the dangers you need to be aware of:

❌ **Avian Influenza**: Raw poultry can be contaminated with the avian influenza virus. When consumed, big cats can become infected, leading to severe respiratory illnesses, weakness, and potentially fatal outcomes.

❌ **Cross-Species Transmission**: Avian influenza is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can jump from birds to mammals, including big cats and humans. This increases the risk of a larger outbreak among different species, including those in close contact with infected animals.

❌ **Secondary Infections**: The virus can weaken a big cat's immune system, making them more susceptible to other infections and diseases. This can lead to prolonged illness and complicated treatments.

❌ **Handling Risks**: Caregivers handling raw, contaminated meat can also be at risk. The virus can be transmitted through direct contact with infected meat, putting humans at risk of infection as well.

❌ **Environmental Contamination**: Improper disposal of raw meat can contaminate the environment, leading to a wider spread of the virus, affecting other animals and even humans who come into contact with the contaminated area.

For the health and safety of our majestic big cats, it is crucial to avoid feeding them raw poultry. Instead, opt for professionally prepared diets that meet all their nutritional needs without the risks of disease. Consult with a veterinarian or an animal nutrition expert to ensure your big cat's diet is both safe and balanced.

Protect our big cats—Say NO to raw poultry feeding! 🐯🦁

Together, we can keep our magnificent friends healthy and thriving. Thank you for your dedication to animal welfare!

If you have any questions or need further advice, please consult your local veterinarian or animal nutritionist. Stay informed and stay safe!

Now that hurricane Milton is a category five. We will be suspending normal scheduled appointments for at least Tuesday and Wednesday and we will reschedule them as soon as possible. Please stay safe. We will see emergencies on a case by case basis up until tomorrow when the weather turns bad enough that we will not go out on the road.

07/10/2024

We are actively monitoring the Milton situation. As the weather deteriorates we will be making decisions on rescheduling non emergency appointments. We will see emergencies as long as it is safe to travel. Please be safe and prepared.

Here's a study backing our decision to recommend spaying/neutering at a later age than 6mos!

A study in Frontiers in Veterinary Science presents evidence-based recommendations for the optimum age at which German short- and wire-haired pointers, mastiffs, Newfoundlands, Rhodesian ridgebacks and Siberian huskies should be spayed or neutered. Spaying or neutering before a puppy is six months i...

Serving Our Community

We saw a need in our community for a farm/house call veterinary service that will treat a large variety of species. From typical farm animals like cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and horses to the more exotic like llamas and alpacas. Most family farms have dogs and cats too, with special preventative health needs due to the nature of living in rural areas. Don’t worry if you live in a city or town we will treat city mice also! We focus on preventative care but can help in times of emergencies after most other vets close. Please call for more details on our services, hours and prices!
