The last week of June, ten riders from Rancho Sierra Vista Equestrian Center and their families traveled overseas to Bavaria, Germany. They traveled alongside one of Rancho's Dressage Trainers, Matthias Schwarz to experience, for the first time. a "real“ Fox Hunt in form of the inaugural German-American Friendship Fox Hunt.

They stayed at Matthias' family Schwarz B&B and rode horses from the family farm. They went with Matthias on daily trail rides into the Franconian Forest and surrounding lake meadows to practice for the upcoming Hunt with the Franconia Beagle pack.

Besides the time spent in the saddle, the group enjoyed sight-seeing visiting the Thousand year old Harburg Castle, the medieval town of Rothenburg and the Rokoko Festival at the Markgrave’s garden in Ansbach.

A Bavarian Evening in the pub with the locals, including a live Oktoberfest band, along with traditional local food, was the highlight to many participants.

The Fox hunt on Saturday June 30, started with a meet and greet of German and American Riders at the Schwarz pub. Each rider signing into the Fox Hunt book. The ride began with 30 riders and approximately 20 Beagles chasing the drag men who laid the track for the Hounds to follow their nose accompanied by the sounds of the horn blowers of Nuremberg. The field of riders lead by Field Master Matthias Schwarz followed the hounds in 7 different runs through forest and open grass land.

At the Wald castle the riders were greeted by the local Baron and had a lunch snack in his garden.

Then the Hunt returned to the Schwarz farm for an aprés Hunt Party to round up the Hunt Week in Bavaria.
