For those of you who are new and have just joined our page: Welcome!!! I’m thrilled to have you here, and I’m so excited to see this page growing already! Little by little we will gain more followers so we can spread information on parrots- and we will have so much fun while we do it.
Here is a little interesting fact for my new followers!:)-
Did you know that the African Grey is the smartest parrot, with an IQ matching a 5 year old child? Their ability to mimic human speech is almost unheard of; they can recognize and point out different colors, shapes, and even categorize different objects! Unfortunately that makes them very popular among traders and poachers, so their population has decreased substantially. They are now categorized as “facing extinction”.
Thank you for being a part of our flock, and we look forward to seeing you!!

“What is an Indian Ringneck?”
An Indian Ringneck, also known as the Rose-Ringed Parakeet, is a medium sized parakeet occurring naturally in Southern Africa, ranging across India and Centeral Africa.
This Parrot is known as the “Indian Ringneck parakeet” because of the male’s unique black ring around the neck. The female does not have this ring, and that is how you can tell these two apart! This bird is classified as a parakeet and not a parrot, not because of its size, but because of its long tail. Its tail makes up about half of its total length in inches(totaling a 16inch body length), so it’s clear to see why this parakeet would need a large cage! Like other medium-sized birds, this parakeet will need a 70-80 inch cage to allow for wing stretching, flying space, and activities like climbing, jumping or playing with toys. The Indian Ringneck can live to be 30 years old, so a healthy diet is very important. Its diet consists of healthy, vitamin and mineral enriched pellets, plus a daily intake of fruits and vegetables. This ensures that your bird will have all the necessary nutrients they need to live a long and happy life! An Indian Ringneck is a very social bird, they are playful and extremely friendly with their bonded human. These birds have a very high IQ, similar to that of a two year old human. So watch out, these curious and intelligent birds may get into some trouble! As of now, you may be thinking that the Indian Ringneck is a perfect pet for you, and you may be right! But, there are a few more things that you should consider: one being their ability to mimic human speech. For some owners, this is a huge bonus! For others, it may end up breaking them to the point where they end up giving the bird away. Indian Ringnecks talk quite a lot, and they want to be where you are at all times. Another thing you should consider is the Ringneck’s destructive tendencies. Indian Ringnecks have very powerful beaks, and they love to chew. If you like to have your parrot out of the cage with you for hours at a time(which is a great thing!), you will have to watch them like you would a two year old child. These birds don’t understand danger, and will easily chew on dangerous objects, such as wires, couches, tables, or anything else they may deem as “chewable”. If you have items in your house that you absolutely do not want destroyed, I would suggest that you put it up, or reconsider an Indian Ringneck as your next pet. The last thing to consider is the Ringneck’s noise level. Again, much like a child, these birds scream very loud. They may scream because they are hungry, because you left the room, or simply because they like the sound of their own voice. Do not get an Indian Ringneck if you live in an Apartment or if you cannot handle a high noise level. These birds are extremely vocal, and only want to communicate with their flock members in the only way they know how.

If you have read through this and still think that a Ringneck is perfect for you, that’s fantastic! Just remember that there is no such thing as too much research, and if you are looking into purchasing a new pet, then an abundant amount of research is vital. It is a big decision when you bring any type of pet into your family, but when you take consideration how long these particular animals live, it’s best to keep researching until you are more than confident with your decision. Check back daily for a brand new bird, and all new information! As always, thank you for being a part of our flock, and we can’t wait to see you!

“What is a Conure?”

A conure is a type of parrot native to South America, with many different species belonging to this particular breed. The most common species of conure is the Green Cheek Conure, and it is a very popular beginner bird for many reasons. In this post we will be talking about 3 types of Conures: the Green Cheek Conure, the Sun Conure, and the Golden Conure.

What is a Green Cheek Conure?-
Shown in the first image, a Green Cheek Conure is the most common species of Conure, and it is one of the most popular beginner parrots for many reasons. The Green Cheek Conure is very small, with a measurement of 10in from beak to tail and a wingspan of approximately 5-5.5 inches. Despite its small size, the Green Cheek has a very large lifespan of 10-25 years. This means that from the time it is a baby to the time it reaches 10+ years, it will need full care and attention daily. Caring for a Green Cheek is simple, but requires time and money. Its diet, like all other parrots, consists of pellets, daily fruits and vegetables, and limited treats. If you feed too many treats, your bird may not have much of an appetite for their healthy diet, and will in turn become more difficult to feed. Like all other small parrots, a Green Cheek Conure will need a large cage to allow room for wing stretching, playing, and flying. A cage around 60-70inches in length should do just fine. These birds are a great beginner bird for many reasons, including: their playful personality, cuddly nature, intelligent minds, and their immaculate social skills. They are not a very loud bird, so if you’re looking for a bird with a fun, bubbly personality and a quiet demeanor, a Green Cheek Conure may be for you!!

What is a Sun Conure?-
Shown in the second image is northeastern South America’s own Sun Conure. These birds are extremely intelligent and playful, but their intelligence often leads to quite a nasty attitude! Although the 12inch parrot looks to be quite calm and friendly, these birds tend to bond with only one person and are usually not very friendly to anyone outside of their “flock”. Their s***ky attitudes can sometimes get them into trouble, but their loving and friendly personalities can soften their owners hearts into merely giving them a big hug!!! These birds live quite a long time, so their s***k will last for quite a while(about 30 years!). These birds love to chew chew chew!!! A 70inch cage minimum and lots of chew toys is a must for this particular species of Conure. These birds also eat pellets rich in vitamins and nutrients, along with daily fruits and veggies. Thinking of getting a Sun Conure? As long as you’ve done your research and prepared for your new pet(and it’s very full personality!), you’re on your way to being a Sun conure parent!!

What is a Golden Conure?-
Pictured lastly is none other than the Golden Conure, which is one of the largest conure species! These Parrots can grow up to 14 inches in length, with a wingspan of approximately 7 inches! As you can see, these parrots have very impressive, large beaks capable of breaking whole nutshells. These birds are extremely kind and outgoing but remember, all birds are capable of biting, and a golden conure is not something you want to get bit by!!!
These birds, despite their larger size, can live to be approximately 30 years old(don’t worry! That’s still 30 years of love!!!). Their unconditional love and devotion to their humans makes every day special, and you will love watching them play! A Golden Conure, because it is a larger bird, needs a larger cage(75-80inches in length). This is so the bird can stretch its large wings and have room to fly, play, and perch. As I said before, a Golden Conure is not a beginner pet. Although it is affectionate, outgoing, smart, and intelligent, it also can be destructive and unpredictable at times. These birds are often best suited for experienced, well equipped and adapted owners.

Overall:
Just because a bird may not be right for you, does not mean that you should not try and gain experience. Lots of people start small and move up as they gain knowledge, confidence and experience in avian research! I hope this has helped you and I look forward to posting a new bird tomorrow! Check back for updates, and thank you for being a part of our flock!!

“What is a cockatiel?”

Contrary to popular belief, a cockatiel is not a parrot. A cockatiel actually belongs to the Cockatoo family, being the smallest version of a cockatoo.
Cockatoos are the only bird with a crown(the feathers on top of their heads), making them separate from other birds and parrots, therefore giving them their own category in the avian community! They have many different color mutations and species, including the Cinnamon-pearl cockatiel(pictured) and the Sulpher-Crested Cockatoo(pictured). There are approximately 21 different species of cockatoos, ranging in size, color, and overall appearance. Cockatoos can be anywhere from 12-30 inches in length, while a cockatiel usually stays around 10-13 inches. Although these birds don’t get very big, their personalities seem to make up for their small size. Cockatiels can be extremely talkitive, curious, playful, and extremely intelligent! These birds, like their larger cousins, tend to crave human interaction and are often very good at telling you what they need! A cockatiel is a great beginner bird due to its small size and cheerful personality. A cockatoo, however, tends to be destructive and extremely loud, so they may not be a great choice as a beginner bird.

Care: both cockatoos and cockatiels can live off of a variety of foods. Pellets are a great choice when feeding your birds, as they offer an excellent amount of vitamins and nutrients. These birds also love fruits and vegetables, which is highly important considering the larger birds can live up to 80 years! Cockatiels can live up to 20 years. For a cockatiel, a large cage is ideal. 60 inches should be perfect for your pet, as it gives them plenty of space to stretch their wings. As for a cockatoo, you will need a cage approximately 10-20 feet in length. These birds live a long time and cannot survive if their cage is too small.

Overall:
Any bird is a large investment. When you consider how long they live, vet bills, feeding, housing, noise level, and attention, it can be overwhelming. If you think that a bird may be too much work for you, you may want to reconsider your purchase. Owning a bird can be a very fun and rewarding experience, but do your research before you take in your new baby, as you may find that is it too much to handle. Check back daily for more information on all sorts of birds, and see which one is right for you! Thank you for being a part of our flock!❤️
Feathers and Beaks

Hello!
Welcome to Feathers and Beaks Parrot Breeding, my name is Adrianne and I am the owner of this small startup. I am so excited to share my passion with you all. A few things we need to go over:

1. The team- Feathers and Beaks has only one owner, and that’s me! However, when it comes to picking up, transporting, and delivering all of the necessary materials/stock items, all of the credit goes to my incredible husband!! A little about us: as I said previously, my name is Adrianne. I am 22 years old, my hobbies include singing, researching and writing. When I was 11 I was diagnosed with Epilepsy, severely limiting my ability to function day-to-day. When I was 14 I had a brain surgery for the epilepsy and suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, which caused partial paralysis on the left half of my body. Working is very difficult for me due to my limitations, so starting this business is the opportunity of a lifetime!!! My husband, Harrison, is 29. He is the one that has given me this incredible opportunity and I cannot thank him enough!

2. What we do- Feathers and Beaks is a bird breeding business that provides top quality, hand raised, hand fed parrots. Which means when you purchase them and bring them home, they will already be used to humans!!! No taming needed, just enjoy your new pet!
At Feathers and Beaks, we will provide you with every piece of information you need to get through even the toughest challenges of owning a bird. Parrots can be hard to handle(trust us, we know!!), but don’t worry, we’re here for you! Every client will get our personal phone number, a full list of do’s and dont’s for your pet, and a card with your new bird’s mutation, gender, and hatch date!

3. Some things we DON’T do-
At Feathers and Beaks, we do all we can to make sure our birds are well taken care of. From diet, exercise, cleanliness, attention, and overall health. Our birds can vary in price depending on their gender and specific mutations. We understand it can be expensive, which is why we offer a deposit option for you to hold your baby for 2 weeks. The deposit does come off of your total cost, but it is non refundable. We understand that owning a bird can be a lot of work, which is why we offer many different kinds of benefits like cards, information lists, and even our phone number. Once you bring your new friend home, paid in full, it is yours. If you decide that the work is too much and it is too much time, we will absolutely take your bird back! Unfortunately, your total cost is non refundable. We will need to use your payment to cover vet bills, care items, and other things your unwanted pet might need.
Please note that purchasing a parrot is a HUGE time, financial, and personal commitment. We will do whatever is necessary to help you and your bird, and want you to end up with the best lifelong companion!

We will let you know when we have our first clutch available. pictures, mutations, ages, genders and prices will be available on our page soon!! Check back for updates!

***** Feathers and Beaks does NOT ship!!! Despite what many other breeders may say, shipping parrots, or any live animal, is not safe. Many things can happen in transit, from the package being lost, to weather difficulties, and also damage to the carrier/travel box. We are located in Ohio, and if you are not able to drive all the way to us, we can meet you somewhere to put you at ease. Thank you for your understanding.
