When you're working with your horse on any task or exercise or movement, be it a new skill or something they have done many times, it can be really easy to get stuck in the idea of "doing the thing" and lose awareness of the idea that you're actually trying to help the horse to understand/respond/do. We get fixated on the idea of doing the thing, rather than helping the horse understand how to do the thing for us.
Can we be peripherally aware of the goals, exercises, or tasks, while being primarily aware of the horse's understanding, confidence, and relaxation? Because THAT'S where real education and development lives.
