Avian influenza (the "bird flu") has been diagnosed in cats, including two that were strictly indoors. It has been documented that these cat became infected after being fed raw poultry meat present in their raw diet. Sadly, this disease is usually fatal in cats. The Colorado Dept. of Agriculture recommends that cats not be fed raw poultry products.
While dogs seem to be more resistant to the virus, it is recommended that dogs also not be fed raw poultry.
