Let's talk about this photo.

It's cute, except it's not.
I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off.
How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:

#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.

#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---

#3: We do not climb on the dog.

#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.

#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.

#6: We do not touch the dog's food.

#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

In conclusion,

Parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.

I look back at LeeLoo and she was a fun one. Norman the Boston was a handful himself, but the two of them conquering things together while they were here was a blast. We actually ended up owning Norman for some time.

Preach the truth Sean! 🩶👌🏽

One of the very best things an owner can get out of high quality training is a clear insight as to what their dogs are truly capable of.

Great trainers can leverage the right tools, training, and mindset to find answers that many owners would otherwise not find on their own. And even though it’s only a piece of the solution—knowing what is and isn’t possible—is an awfully important piece.

Once an owner sees what is possible, then it is up to them (with the guidance of their trainer) to become the equal of their goals and challenges with their dog. This almost always includes immense amounts of mental, emotional, and physical effort. Skills have to be learned, new ways of thinking and acting have to be developed, and lifestyle needs to be adjusted.

Of course this is a tall order. In the same way that most everyone would love to be in great shape, be financially abundant, and have great relationships with friends and family… these accomplishment all require great effort, great sacrifice, and longterm discipline and commitment.

And because we all know how us humans are wired—instant gratification with longterm costs almost always beat out delayed gratification with longterm benefits—we find most humans know precisely what’s needed, but find that cost simply too high to pay.

So when we proclaim how much we desire to transform our dogs and their behavior, it’s best, if we want to avoid appearing foolish and hypocritical, that we first examine how much of ourselves and our behavior that we’re truly willing to transform.

Said another way, don’t complain about the results you didn’t get from the actions you didn’t take. The results are waiting for you, but only come when you’ve become their equal. ❤️

I got a call a few weeks back about a couple Boston terriers with little attitude problems. We actually ended up referring them to another local trainer because of having a very busy household. And a serious issue happening this past weekend they actually ended up sending both of their dogs for our last-minute boarding train before we headed north.

So introducing turbo, one of the Boston terriers that are here for some light behavioral/foundational training, squeezed into two weeks.

I have been working on keeping my fingers in tact with this guy, it’s been quite a challenge so far.

It's a bittersweet feeling, but our last day here is May 22nd. Our only delay is doodle pups finding their new homes and our families in South Florida.

We're thrilled for our kids, our dogs, and our horses! Keep pushing, and you'll reach your goals. Don't give up. No more mortgage for us! 😍

We will miss everyone terribly but we will be back to check on clients every few months and just remember, our support system via phone doesn’t end! 🤓🩶

When Nina arrived, she was pretty insecure about the scooter, coming anywhere near her and the noises it was making on the pavement, with some lack of socialization with kids and outsiders specifically, she still has an overall pretty solid attitude and is now 80% better with the scooter than what she was when she arrived! making solid progress is Nina!
