BOTTLES/CANS NEEDED: Turn your pop cans and bottles into warm shelters for cats and dogs in need this winter!

The Humane Society of Macomb is still collecting returnable pop bottles and cans for the Warm Pet Project Bottle Drive. Money collected from this drive is used to help build shelters for cats and dogs seeking refuge during the harsh cold winter months.

If you are interested in donating bottles or cans please leave them in the gated area across from the Animal Clinic door. This prevents them from getting blown away or animals grabbing them.

It's raining kittens!

Kitten season is just beginning here at ARAR and we want to be able to help as many mama's as we can!

Miss Noodle is just one of many that we have brought in and she had 4 babies on January 2: Macaroni, Tortellini, Penne, and Rigatoni.

More than anything we can really use a strong supply of kitten food to keep rescuing.

🎉💚 In 25 days, we will officially have been a rescue for a year 💚🎉

Our goal is to hit 6500 followers, which means we still have 183 to go! It may seem like a stretch, but you guys are yet to disappoint!

For a rescue, the more followers means more eyes seeing those in need. It means more support, fosters/adopters, donations, prayers, & more. All of which mean the more we can do for those in our care!

IF IT IS TOO COLD FOR YOU- IT'S TOO COLD FOR YOUR PET. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia and SHOULD BE KEPT INSIDE.

It’s bitter cold in Michigan with temperatures continuing to fall. Tuesday is supposed to be even worse.

Most dogs do not have adequate shelter to survive these temps well. Even a dog igloo isn’t enough if it’s not properly situated, packed inside with clean dry straw and blocks of straw encasing it from the outside.

When is it too cold? 32 degrees is really cold. Especially for small dogs, old dogs, young dogs and thin coated dogs.

20 degrees and under is when frostbite and hypothermia sets in. Frostbite hurts forever. Hypothermia kills. It’s not uncommon for animal control to find frozen dogs. Bring your dogs inside!

Speak up if you see dogs outside. Call your local animal control.

Knock on your car before starting it. Outdoor cats often seek shelter in the hood.

Have community cats? Many will do well in a mud room, laundry room or spare room in intense cold. Here are some sheltering tips: https://catsinaction.org/resources/winter-shelters-supplies/

All pets need more food and water in the winter.
