is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a

network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.

Then and Now! We saved this Tail Wagging Tuesday post for Thankful Thursday! Linguine was rescued December 13, 2023 from a hoarding situation and almost a year to the day later, he won the lottery! His foster family decided to adopt and he joins Sunny who is also a former castaway. Although we are of course sad to lose a foster home, we are beyond thrilled that he has his forever home for the howlidays!

It’s Giving Tuesday! In times of uncertainty, there’s a fundamental truth that gives us hope – that together we can do extraordinary things. Whether that’s through donations or volunteering, generosity has been making a positive impact on the world.

Canine Castaways is participating in GivingTuesday today, the global day of unity and giving. As you know, our organization rescues at risk dogs helping to reduce the need for euthanasia at shelters throughout our area.

But we can’t do this without you! Many times these dogs have medical needs requiring extensive vet care. Your donations make this possible.

Not only do we need your support, we need your help to spread the word. Please tell your friends and family why you believe in our work and encourage them to support us too!

Here’s some ways you can be a part of the generosity movement:

Changing the world one dog at a time since 2003!

In 2003, we weren't sure if one person could make a difference but we knew that we wanted to see change. So we founded Canine Castaways with the motto "Saving one dog won't change the world but it will change the world for that dog". When we rescued a tiny, sick chihuahua puppy who we named Uno our world changed.

Since then we have rescued over 2300 dogs. We know that there is a home out there for every dog we rescue and will wait patiently until it is found. We try very hard to place dogs in their "forever home"; however, there are times that things don't work out. When we rescue a dog, we are committed to that dog for its entire life and will never hesitate to accept one of our castaways back into our care. Our focus is on quality of care rather than the number of dogs saved. We are very proud to work closely with our team of veterinarians to ensure each dog rescued receives the best medical care possible. If it's needed, it's done! Of course, this does lead to the challenge of constant fundraising but at 16 years old, Uno still reminds us that the extra work is worth it to change the world one dog at a time.
