Dog care instructions 🐶🧼:
Handwash only! Gently lather with mild soap and water, rinse thoroughly, and air dry.

🫧 Here are some care instructions for some of our favorite winter pieces:

🤧Use Hypoallergenic Detergent
While washing your pet's gear, be sure to use hypoallergenic detergent. Dogs have sensitive skin, which harsh chemicals and scents can irritate!

🎿Canada Pooch - Soft Shield Booties
Wash inside out on gentle cycle in cold water. Hang to dry. No need to iron, dry clean, or use fabric softener. These booties have the softest, warmest inner lining!

🐑Gooby - Fleece Stretch Vest
Wash in cold water on gentle setting. Hang to dry. No need to iron, dry clean, or use fabric softener. This fleece vest is comes in so many adorable colors.

🔄GF Pet - Reversible Chalet Jacket
Wash in cold water on gentle setting. Hang to dry. No need to iron, dry clean, or use fabric softener. We love this coat because it's reversible for maximum fashion.

🏔️Doggie Design - Alpine Extreme Weather Puffer Coat
Wash in cold water on gentle setting. Hang to dry. No need to iron, dry clean, or use fabric softener. This coat truly has a full-size range, it fits even the most giant dogs.

Hidden Winter Hazards for Dogs! 🐶⚠️❄️

Winter isn’t all snowballs and tail wags—here are some lesser-known hazards to watch for:

❄️ Salt and de-icer: Harsh chemicals can irritate paws or be toxic when licked.
🧊 Ice chunks: Sharp edges can cut paw pads—watch where they step!
🌲 Snow-covered debris: Sticks, glass, or even trash can be hidden under the snow.
🚗 Antifreeze puddles: Just a few drops can be deadly—keep your dog far away!
🌙 Low light and shorter days: Use reflective gear or lights to stay visible during evening walks

Stay vigilant, stay safe, and enjoy the frosty fun! 🐾❄️

How much water should a winter-dog drink if a winter-dog should drink water? See below! 💧❄️🐾

💧 Water Intake
Dogs should drink 1 fluid ounce of water per pound of body weight each day! For example, since Freddy weighs 45 lbs, he should drink 45 fluid ounces of water each to stay hydrated!

🌬️Dry Air
Indoor heating and lower humidity levels can cause loss of hydration in dogs, through their breath, panting, and even through their skin! Extra water intake in the winter is important if your dog has been exerting themselves.

👑 Goldilocks Dogs
If your dog takes infrequent drinks or chugs a lot of water at once, it could be a sign that they’re having a Goldilocks moment. Try switching up the material, size of bowl, temperature, or type of waterer. Freddy likes the water-line in his bowl to be consistent, he used to be a light drinker until we got an automatic gravity waterer, now he takes frequent drinks!

Stay hydrated and enjoy your wintertime adventures!

Beware of Paw Care! See some tips below on keeping your dog’s paws in tip-top shape! 🐾

🛡️Paw Protection
Snow, ice, salt-melt, twigs, rocks, and rough asphalt can cause your dog to become susceptible to injuries like chemical burns and paw-pad tearing. Keep them safe by investing in a barrier wax or physical shield, such as booties!

💧Paw Hydration
Just like dry weather can dry our hands out, it can also dry your dog’s paws out! Consider applying a hydrating oil blend or healing balm to your dog’s paws once a day to keep them moisturized and ready for adventuring.

🪒Paw Pad Hair
Keeping the hair in-between your dog’s paw pads short will help prevent dirt, mud, and snow build up. It also makes it less easy for pests like ticks and fleas to hide and makes it easy to look for scrapes and scratches.

💅Nail Trims
If your dog’s nails are too long to the point they’re walking nails first, it could be causing a joint issue for your dog. Instead of walking on the soles of their feet, they’re walking on their tip-toes. You could see how that would be uncomfortable. Keep your dog’s nails short with nail trims every 2-3 weeks, and every 1-2 weeks to help the quick to shrink shorter.

Now get out and adventure, paws first!

Just-in, we have a wide inventory of Natural Rapport freeze-dried treats and chews now available! These are great for many amazing reasons…

🧐Picky Pups
We have yet to have a dog visit the store and refuse our chicken liver samples! Single/ingredient treats are perfect for picky dogs or as they’re, flavor-wise, as good as it gets-100% meat, no tasteless fillers, all deliciousness!

❤️Easy to Digest
Dog’s with sensitive tummies or food allergies may have distinct additives that cause them to have an upset tummy, such as eggs, flours, sugar, ect. Single-ingredient treats take the guesswork out of avoiding these additives. They’re just one ingredient making them super easy to digest!

🧩Enrichment Benefits
Gnawing on long-lasting chews tendons and bully-sticks naturally fulfills a dog’s instinct to chew on animal bones, a part of the process of dispatching prey. This can help your dog relax after a long hike or provide them some indoor enrichment on a snowy day!

Stop in to check them out and pick some up for your pup. 🐾

There are so many harness options. Here's our suggestion on what to choose based on your dog's needs! ⛰️🐾

🌤️ Size
For smaller pups, we recommend a mesh harness such as Baydog's Liberty Bay harness! The lightweight design won't weigh them down, is easy to put on, and provides full support for their smaller bodies!

🌧️ Environment
For adventuring in all conditions we recommend a harness that is weather-proof and easy to clean! Hurtta's Weekend Warrior Harness and Baydog's Chesapeake Harness are made for action and will stand the test of rain, snow, mud, and more!

☁️🌬️Use
For beginner pulling sports, canicross, and bikejoring, we recommend Alpine Outfitter's Urban Trail Harness. It has a great price point and is designed for pulling, featuring padding, military grade buckles, and multiple attachment points.
If you're getting serious, Non-Stop Dogwear's Freemotion harness is the option for a full range of shoulder motion and optimal breath intake.

☁️🌈Practicallity
Convertible harnesses like, EZY Dog's Convert Harness, have velcro on the sides to accommodate patches, backpacks, velcro-lights, and more! These are great if you need an all-in-one solution to having multiple pieces of gear, and they look snazzy!

What harness do you use with your pup?

If you’re spending time outdoors with your pup this winter, be sure to keep an eye out for signs of canine hypothermia. ❄️🐾

❤️ Shivering is the earliest sign of canine hypothermia. If your dog exhibits shivering, it is time to go inside to warm up!

❤️ Moderate signs include lethargy, pale gums, muscle stiffness, difficulty walking, and ears and paws that are cold to the touch.

❤️ Severe signs may include shallow breathing, fixed and dilated pupils, loss of consciousness, and a weak pulse.

Stay safe while adventuring!

Although Freddy is considered a medium-sized dog by height and weight standards, his boot size is a 4 out of 6 and coat size is an XL! 😮

Due to skewed size charts, varying proportions, and having a wiggly pup, fitting your dog for gear isn't always as easy as it seems. 😮‍💨We want to help you warm-up your pup with free gear fittings! No appointment needed, stop in anytime. 🤗

We'll see you soon!

New product alert! We have .paws, 10, 15, and 20 ft. BioThane long-lines now available at our Merle Hay location in orange, sage, and ocean!

Our store dog, Freddy, put his BioThane long-line while performing outdoor detection-work this fall in full-grown soy and corn stubble fields during all weather. He can vouch that it is durable, water-proof, impossible to knot, and easy to clean.

Perfect for your 2025 adventures!

With shorter wintertime daylight hours, we wanted to HIGHLIGHT some high-visibility gear that can help keep you and your dog safe while adventuring during dusk and dark! 🌑

⚡️Reflective Stitching and Patches
Ensuring your gear has reflective stitching or patches on their regular leash, harness, and collar, is a great way to ensure they're seen by cars and under street lights! We like this option for pavement and urban walks for built-in safety that doesn't need to be charged.

🔦Night-howl Glow Collars.
Since these collars always glow, not just when something reflects against them, they're an all-around great option for adventures as small as the backyard and as big as hiking! Changes last for over 40 hours, durability-wise we have yet to see any light wavering on our test collar that has been running non-stop for over a year!

🌟Reflective Vests
Full-body reflective gear, such as Hurtta's Ranger Vests, are great options that often combine a light with bright colors and reflective patterns! These are great for small dogs that are less visible and lower to the ground or for hardcore adventuring!

✴️Bright Colors
For the daylight hours, consider changing your gear from sleek back to vibrant neon colors to ensure your dog is visible to other hikers and possible hunters. You can never be too safe!

Shine bright and adventure on!
