People often, understandably, want to know how to ‘get’ or ‘make’ their dog do something. If what they are doing doesn’t work immediately, frustration results. What is often overlooked, is the dog is frustrated as well. For example, a frustrated dog might bark, spin, leave, refuse to move, or jump on their handler. There are several ways to address frustration, but avoiding it in the first place is key. One way to avoid frustration is teaching the dog a ‘try again’ cue or a ‘keep going cue.’ These cues are slightly different but are predicated on the dog understanding being reinforced for effort. A try again cue can save so much energy and frustration as the dog understands reinforcement is on the way. So rather than correcting a dog to get a behavior, consider teaching a try again cue.
Well, Kasey & Allison may be our next Fitness Champion team. Check out their crawl tunnel!
Did you know you can utilize our air conditioned facility for practice, exercise, and enrichment? If you are a client (past or present) you can use the facility for $20/hour. Practice your skills, run a fun-gility course or just play with your dog. If you are not a client, orientation is required at your initial session and is $30 for that first hour. Stay cool and play inside!
This is Kasey and Allison. Kasey was returned to her breeder for ‘barking‘ when she was six months old. Allison acquired Kasey and soon discovered Kasey had apparently not been socialized or trained at all. The result? Kasey has a lot of worries, is incredibly smart, and needs a major outlet for her intelligence and drive in order to be a good companion dog. After a board & train at Positive Splash & muzzle training by Allison, Kasey is ready to start some more training. Fun agility, tricks, and fitness are all on the table. Here is Kasey learning to crawl. She is one smart border collie (and super cute, too)!
Fun with the mini triple and the double bassets.
Kevin and lab puppy Moose have worked very hard on their loose lead walking. Moose keeps a good eye on Kevin for cues and reinforcement. Loose lead walking takes a dedicated effort to master, that work has paid off for this team! Good job!
Thanks to Frances Dauster & Sunpaws, Fetch 'n Fun has a brand new Cato plank. Here is Heidi testing it out! 💖
Dan
Having a bit of fun with Dan, who is always a good sport, learning about carting. A very well-bred collie with a lovely temperament, Dan took it all in stride.
This is Charleigh, a very clever and well trained malti-poo! Charleigh and Lisa just earned their first trick dog title! Here is a little enrichment fun; I love that Charleigh's ears match her snuffle mat! How cute is that?
