We are a small, family-owned farm nestled in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. We raise sheep, pigs, steers and poultry. We hope you enjoy the visit, and hope to see you soon. Long Shadow Farm began in the summer of 2007. We purchased our farm with the intent of learning to sustain ourselves off the land. In the process, we have shared the fruits of our labors with neighbors and friends, and

are continuing to grow our little farm each year. We had a lot of ideas of what we wanted to try to raise, from Alpaca and Buffalo, to cut flowers. We’ve sort of evolved as we have gone along to what we are now. We have soft hearts for all animals, dirt under our nails from working the soil, and a genuine interest in making our little piece of the planet better. Make no mistake, farming is neither glamorous nor easy, but when you succeed, it is so worth it.

Sock had twins this week! We weren't sure she was able to get bred due to her being a little extra chunky (not fat shaming! I know her plight!) These little boys are adorable. Mama is being trained on how to be a good mama...

August 10 - Small Animal Round Robin - 9AM, Market Sale 1PM
August 11 - Product Sale - Noon, Poultry Sale 1PM (yes, Shannon will be selling birds!)

Fresh chickens available on the farm until the sun goes down tonight! Then they move to the freezer. If you want a chicken (or two) you can pop right on the grill (we suggest spatchcocking it for faster grilling) head on over to the farm today! Otherwise, they'll be frozen and ready for your freezer anytime!

Our first batch of chickens will be processed TOMORROW! We will keep some fresh ones stored in our fridge until Tuesday. This way, you can purchase them fresh, and part them out yourself before freezing them. Or cook one right away! Whatever works for you. After Tuesday, they will be moved to the freezer, and we will start bringing some to the Berthoud Market starting July 6! Need some for a 4th of July BBQ? Swing on by the farm!

Poultry coming SOON! We are butchering our first batch on SUNDAY.

That means, Saturday at the market we will have beef, pork and lamb (and hopefully some eggs) We'll have poultry fresh on the farm on Sunday, through Tuesday - then they go in the freezer and we'll start bringing them to the market until they are gone... Next batch will be butchered in August

Stock your freezer with beef! This is a great steer for a smaller family, couple or even single. He's part mini, so his cuts will be smaller than what you see at the grocery store. Grass fed and finished.

Going to Arapahoe Meat Co in Erie on June 17. Pick up should be 10-14 days later.

We have one of our beefs moved up to a drop off date of June 17. He's a smaller guy - but still tasty! If you want beef soon, grab some of him! 3 quarters still available!

This is a deposit on one quarter of beef from the farm. Drop off is scheduled for June 17. Beef usually hangs for 7-10 days before cut and wrap. I'm freezing my eggs!!

No, not MY eggs. My duck eggs! No one is buying so I am preserving them for winter. So I can bake my almond pound cake any time of the year!! (It takes 6 eggs!!)

Maybelle had a baby boy a little bit ago! He seems to have been born with joint ill. He's being treated and responding well. We assisted his intake in the beginning, but the treatments have been helping his mobility and reducing his lethargy. His mama is very very attentive and patient. While his back legs and front left have recovered and are fully functional. His right front knee is swollen and turning in an abnormal direction - his shoulder is turned to allow that knee to be bowed out. His neck is making improvements and he is holding closer to straight forward and can lift it up some from prone. He is able to nurse on his own. His head was turning to the left, so he tends to mostly nurse from mama's left. But again, the neck is starting to straighten and be able to lift. He can follow mama to the pasture. He's starting to dislike me greatly as he is getting a minimum of 2 injections per day. But the fact he can out run me is a very good sign. Hoping his front right joint starts to reduce in swelling and start to heal up. I have high hopes for him. In our Tolkien theme, we have named him Gimli.

Wehave barn owls back again!!

This lamb is named Kaffir, but picked up the nickname Spider Monkey. He thinks I and my pants are made of milk.

I can not for the life of me explain why this video is ridiculously funny to me... (I had to look for the footage to find out why this gate had fallen over, and am just thrilled no one got hurt in the process)

Guyzzzzzzz!!! The concrete pad is being poured today for pur poultry processing space!! Loki is supervising!

Coyote sniffing my turkey

This is what happens when it's raining and I don't let the dogs out of the backyard at night. I did let them out when they barked up a storm and I saw this on my barn cameras. Sleepy turkey on the fence had no idea what was sniffing his butt! This was 1AM.

This is Meg. Our oldest ewe, currently age 8 and the resident lamb playground. She had twins this year, you can see her shoo away the others to tend to her two.
