Fun Fact Friday: Revolutionary Rovers 🐾

Did you know dogs played a role in the American Revolutionary War?

That’s right, our four-legged friends weren’t just keeping soldiers company. They delivered messages, guarded camps, and even helped detect enemy movement. Some were considered good luck charms on the battlefield.

One of the most heartwarming stories?
After the Battle of Germantown, General George Washington found a lost terrier wandering the field.
He didn’t keep it.
He had the dog fed, cleaned, and returned to its British owner… along with a respectful note.

Talk about honor, loyalty, and love for dogs!

So while you’re enjoying fireworks and freedom this weekend, take a moment to remember the dogs who’ve stood by us since the very beginning.

We salute them. 🐾

Fireworks and festivities are fun for us, but they can be frightening and dangerous for our pets. Here’s how to make sure your furry friend stays safe and calm this Fourth of July:

1. Keep Them Indoors
Even if your pet usually loves the outdoors, loud booms and flashing lights can cause them to panic and run away. Keep windows and doors closed and stay close to comfort them.

2. Create a Safe Space
Set up a quiet, cozy area with their favorite bed, toys, or even a blanket that smells like you. Playing calming music or white noise can help drown out fireworks.

3. Update Their ID Tags
Make sure your pet’s collar has current tags and that their microchip info is up to date. If they do get spooked and run off, this will help get them home safely.

4. Skip the Party Foods
BBQ scraps, alcohol, and desserts can be harmful or toxic to pets. Keep them on their regular food and let guests know not to sneak them any table treats.

5.Book a Distance Reiki Session
Reiki is a gentle, energy-based healing practice that can help pets feel more relaxed and grounded—especially during stressful times like fireworks season. And can be done remotely from anywhere! A session before or after the holiday can ease anxiety, promote emotional balance, and support their overall well-being.

Plan now for how to help your fur baby deal with the loud boom booms of Fourth of July! 🎆

Fireworks might be fun for us, but for many of our furry friends, they’re *terrifying.* The loud bangs, flashing lights, and unfamiliar smells can cause major stress and anxiety. 😞🐾

Here are some ways you can help your pup stay calm and safe this holiday:

🩺 Talk to Your Vet
If your dog gets *really* anxious, ask your vet about calming medications. There are gentle options that can make a world of difference.

🌿 Try Calming Supplements
Natural calming treats with ingredients like L-theanine, valerian root, or CBD (dog-safe, of course!) can help ease their nerves.

🏡 Create a Safe Space at Home
Set up a cozy, quiet den with their favorite blanket, toy, and some background noise like calming music or a white noise machine. Close windows and draw the curtains to soften the sound and light.

Ever watched your pup twitch in their sleep?
A little paw paddle here, a soft woof there...

They’re dreaming. Just like we do.

Dogs go through REM sleep, the stage where dreams happen. And in that moment, they might be running through a meadow, chasing a tennis ball, or curled up next to their favorite human (yep, that’s you).

It’s a gentle reminder:
Even in rest, they live full, vivid little lives.🐾

Next up in our Pets of Whisker Wash series we have Amber‘s dogs!

First we have Max… he is such a ham! He will instantly become your best friend and is convinced all pockets have treats because mom’s pockets always have treats. His favorite things are splashing in the river and giant stuffies that are bigger than him!

Next is Zoe - my best girl! She is truly a go anywhere and do anything girl, from hiking to being a patio dog to helping socialize my puppy clients. She loves social time with her canine friends (Token and Vivid especially), playing tug with her tire, and yelling at people that walk on the street!

Then we have Houdini - the resident spicy girl! She is a feisty floof that would give her mom away for a treat in a heartbeat, no hesitation! She loves destroying tennis balls and stuffies, flopping in the middle of the street, and zooming through rivers and mud!

Cedar is the resident good boy of the house! In his younger days he’d be on squirrel and deer patrol, but in his retirement he is now a full time drool producer and a professional shadow for mom!

The baby of the group is Xena at seven years old! Most of her brain shuts off once a squirrel enters the picture, but she is such a sweet girl! Her favorite things in the world are discs and she loves nothing more than jumping in the air after them and being caught!

Then we have Casper - a chihuahua through and through! He loves to yell at larger dogs and people on walks (especially when mom tells him not to), and insists he is actually a Great Dane in size!

Finally, Kiwi is the newest addition to the group from a family member passing. She is a tiny but mighty gal who loves snuggles and laying directly in the middle of giant dog beds so the larger dogs will have to lay elsewhere!
