UNITED STATES LANCASHIRE HEELER CLUB
On January 1, 2024 the Lancashire Heeler was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club and has joined the Herding Group! The club has joined with the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) and the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) to guide US Breeders to healthy disease free breeding for future generations of Lancashire Heelers. Primary Lens Luxat

ion (PLL) Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Patellar Luxation are three required tests that breeders must perform to qualify for a CHIC number in the OFA database. The USLHC recommends the above listed basic health screening tests for all breeding stock. In addition to the breed specific requirements above, a CHIC requirement across all participating breeds is that the dog must be permanently identified via microchip or tattoo in order to qualify for a CHIC number. CHIC numbers generate automatically once all requirements have been recorded at the OFA. Foreign-born dogs must have clearances from their country's equivalent and must meet the age requirements for evaluation. CHIC numbers for foreign born dogs with foreign health screening results may qualify for CHIC, but their numbers will not generate automatically. Results must be manually forwarded to the OFA (fees apply) and CHIC numbers requested after a review.

Another Treibball Title! Intermediate Snooker. Pearl had to get a minimum of 15pts in 2 min 15 secs with three qualifying runs for the title. She brought in 22pts. The balls are at 25 ft. away from the goal. Pearl was such a good girl working in the oppressive heat!

Pearl recently qualified for her Advanced Standard Title in Treibball (TE-A). In this class there are 8 balls set 30 ft. away from the goal. Pearl must bring in the point ball first and then any ball of her choice under four minutes. She had to qualify three times for her title. 👏👏👏

Lancashire Heelers are known for their “Heeler Smile” which is technically an appeasement grin, a way of signaling “Hello friend!! I’m no threat!!”

It’s often displayed in moments of social excitement. This is NOT an aggressive behavior, even if a photo looks misleading, there’s a lot of additional body language that clearly communicates the dog is behaving friendly and feeling comfortable.

He continues to be the highest titled, most accomplished Lancashire Heeler in Barn Hunt, with a placement in every single run he has done and 12 high in classes. He is unstoppable.
