Yesterday morning this juvenile owl was found in the Casa Romantica water fountain, soaked to the bone and as a result unable to fly.
After a day of rest and recovery and a vet check up he was released by our animal control officer! 🦉

Officer Friedman was called out to San Clemente HS this morning to rescue a baby raccoon. The cute little guy was hiding out near the theater in some stage props, which wasn’t a safe place for him or the students and staff at the school.
The Officer was able to safely remove him from his hiding spot. The little guy is a little young to be on his own, so he will be off to a rehab facility for care until he is old enough to be released.
Kitten playtime is always entertaining!!!
Check out our adoption special this month…50% off adoption fees on our cats and kittens until 9/5/21.

Olivia is in one of our foster homes. She was a very scared, unsocialized cat when she came to us. Instead of giving up, our volunteers started working with her on a revolutionary program designed to work with unsocialized and feral cats.
Today Olivia let her foster mom pet her for the very first time!
Athena (black) and Pluto (brown) are now best friends. They love romping together and had a great time!
Pluto, Hal & Appa enjoying some play time!
Too. Many. Toys.
Carmel must play with them all!!
This is Leif a semi-feral kitty that was rescued and brought to our shelter.
He didn’t have much human contact for the first 5 months of his life, so trusting people is very foreign to him.
Socializing cats like Leif is a long, slow process and when we start we never know if they’re going to trust people enough to ever be a “house” cat. Our shelter will do whatever we can to give cats like Leif a chance at a long life in a loving home.
We have a select group of special foster homes that have an understanding and patient way to approach cases like Leif, and it’s his best chance at learning how to be a pet.
His foster mom reports that he has made some good progress in the month we have had him and we hope he will be ready for adoption to his forever home very soon!
Willow playing some frisbee today and loving it!
She is available for adoption. For more information on Willow please email us at [email protected].
At the San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter, our dog trainer works with our dogs and engages them in activities that provide exercise and enrichment for them during their stay at the shelter. The video below, shows "Willow" participating in our "K9 Nose Work" program.
The K9 Nose Work Shelter Enrichment Program strives to offer dogs an activity that allows them to express their most natural behaviors – scenting, searching and hunting – while giving shelter staff and volunteers a fun and creative way to engage the animals in their care. It provides the dogs with an incredible mental and physical workout that alleviates stress and boredom. It is especially suited for dogs that are unable to participate in canine playgroups. The activity is great for building confidence in shy or timid dogs and also as redirection for high energy dogs.
Dogs are taught to search for a treat or toy at a specific time and location. The treat or toy is eventually hidden in progressively challenging places, which provides mental stimulation by searching for it.
If you are interested in adopting Willow, a1.5 year old, Lab x, please contact our shelter at (949)492-1617 for more information. Adoption applications can be accessed on Pet Project Foundation's website at, www.petprojectfoundation.org.
