Learn the traditional sport of Dog Obedience using modern, dog-friendly methods. Join me at Monadnock Humane Society in Swanzey, NH on Thursday evenings. Intro to Competition Obedience covers the skills and exercises used in CDSP and AKC beginning level competition: Starter Novice/Beginner Novice and Novice competition classes. Classes run 6 weeks/$125; to keep class size small, I am offering this class twice a night at 6:15 and again at 7:30. Select the time that works best for you!

Pricing reflects a discount for signing up for the entire 6 wk session.

Heeling is a partner dance with your dog; building the skill of heeling asks both the dog and the handler to pay attention to how we are moving together. It's a joy and a game and sits at the heart of Rally, Competition Obedience, and Trick/Dog Dance routines. Any dog and handler will have more fun walking together if you understand and practice heeling. At MHS, we offer 45-minute group heeling class on Thursdays at 5 pm. Does a day get much better? A nice photo of me and my girl Candy plus 3 terrific WCRL Rally runs! L1 (208), L2 (210), L3 (210). Better yet, I watched my students (from beginners to advanced) have successful runs with their wonderful dogs, as well! Thank you, judge Jeanne Thompson for your eagle eye today at Monadnock Humane Society Training Center Rally classes offered on Wednesdays and Sundays. Our next WCRL Rally is September 28, 2024. April 6-7, 2024, RFE Musical Freestyle in Syracuse, NY. Dancing in front of people at a live event is both exhilarating and terrifying for me. I was thrilled to have us qualify in the Regular Novice class.

This was the first time Candy & I have put this routine on the floor; it's still a work in progress. I was so nervous, I forgot to turn on the "OPEN" light before our run! The idea is that we turn off the Open sign at the beginning of the routine, because it's Closing Time. Please bear with me on this, and pretend you see the light go off...

First time putting this routine on the floor in competition: RFE Regular Novice at Syracuse Live 2024. Qualified with a score of 72 for a first leg in RegNo...

Swanzey, NH: Specialty Tricks -- 5pm Wednesdays $140 (Starts April 10)/ Performer & Dance Tricks -- 6:15pm Wednesdays $140 (Starts April 4.)

Specialty Tricks is aimed at foundation skills and beginner tricks such as spin, sit pretty, two paws on/jump on/jump in an object, weave through your legs, and so much more! At the end of this class, you & your dog will have 10 or more tricks. (To be successful in this class, your dog must be able to focus on you and learn in a busy group environment. This is NOT a reactive dog class.)

Performer & Dance Tricks is aimed at teams who have successfully completed Specialty Tricks or who already perform a variety of tricks and are interested in building a routine aimed at Musical Freestyle performance or AKC Performer level Trick Dog.

Understand and build the foundations your dog needs to perform advanced Rally Obedience exercises such as position transitions at a distance, and directed jumping. WCRL Rally Judge Amee Abel will provide video examples and direct instruction to help you either start teaching these skills or move your skills to the next level. The format will include video, lecture, and hands-on working time with teams getting on the floor and receiving direct coaching.
BIG FEELINGS/BAD PERFORMANCE: HELP YOUR DOG COPE WITH RING PRESSURE 1:00pm-4:30pm
Is your dog sniffy in the competition ring? Is their nose is stuck to the floor? Or do they ignore your cues, lag behind, or worse yet, do the leave you and run out of the ring? When we ignore our dog’s emotions, we often ascribe these behaviors to a dog being “bad” or “stubborn” or “ring wise.” How can we better understand why our dog is acting this way? And what can we do to change it?
Join Amee Abel, CPDT-KA, for an afternoon while we explore crucial skills your dog must have in order to cope well with the performance environment. We will look at the science behind reinforcement and gain insight into how our relationship to our dogs impacts their trust in us when we face performance pressure.
