Omgoodness! We just cannot get over how floofily beautiful Lev is! 😻
This also seemed to be his favorite position to be before grooming himself - He'd walk to a wall, prop himself up just like this, then begin licking and eventually slide down 🥹 So adorably cute 😍

~ Did you know, a fixed/spayed female cat is called a "molly", an unspayed cat is called a "queen", a neutered/altered male cat is called a "gib", and an unaltered male cat is called a "tomcat" or "tom"? 😻

I first began teaching a cat to sit after learning he would grab his mother's hand with his paws, claws out, to pull her fingers in with his teeth, unable to control his eagerness for the treat hidden in between. She told me at our Meet-and-Greet I would need to treat him like feeding a horse an apple - flat hands only or I could get bit. After our meeting, I began thinking how I could rehabilitate this cat to help his mom have a more peaceful relationship with her newly adopted addition, because that kind of biting and claw-grabbing was not okay for either of them 💝

With a longtime interest in animal behavior paired with a desire to rehabilitate non-medical "problem behaviors" of cats & dogs while still respecting their feelings, I gave it a whirl and began to work with him the very first visit. Teaching this cat to sit, and sit calmly for an extended period of time, allowed him to reach a level of understanding he would always receive the treat, even if it took longer than he would have liked. As he believed he was part vacuum 😏, it took a little more time for him to accept the benefits of waiting (2 or 3 kibble/treats initially 😉) and find that inner-peace of removing the stress of uncertainty unless he made quick advances to take before anyone else got what he wanted.

To this day, some years later, he sits peacefully and takes treats oh so gently, saving his mother's delicate skin and making everyone he meets impressed and proud of him 🥰 Through the daily act of practicing patience this way, he has been able to carry that strengthened trust with his mom in other areas of their relationship as he overcomes emotional resistance due to lack of previous efforts invested into his well-being before joining her heart 🧡
So, he was the first, and what a difference just sitting has made.

Mushy here, seems to have already learned how to sit on cue as this was just his second time with me 😻
As you can see, he does a MEOWRVELOUS job of demonstrating self-restraint and ultimately giving full trust to me, someone he met just days prior, he would receive the tasty reward if he did what he knew I wanted him to do. Either that or he is just an extremely quick learner, which could be as all felines are incredibly intelligent!! 🤩🥳😍

Mushy is not the second kitty I've had sit for treatos and won't be the last 😊 Let me know at our initial meeting or the next time I care for your kitto if you'd like me to work with them on this trick or others 😁
