Flashback to the former SATZ_Main Yahoo list. Teaching a dog to back flip in under 15 minutes. Reme.ber dogs easily learn behaviors through obversation of positive interactions.

Take yourself, the dog and some yummy treats out to the yard. Tell
the dog "Pookie, I am going to teach you how to flip. This is what
a back flip looks like".

Now flip over backwards (with or with out hands)
as you do say Flip, X, Flip!!! YAY. That's mommy back flipping!!" and
give yourself a treat. Now repeat again and really make it look fun.
As you flip over backwards say "Flip, x x x x x Flip, X, Flip. Woo Hoo that's
mommy doing a back flip!!!! Give your self several yummy treats and be very effusive in your praise.

Now the most important part of this exercise is to remember that this
is April first and this is an April Fools day joke. Have a great day and above all things, be thee kind.

I CRINGED through this entire video. This is a VERY GOOD DOG!!! She took a whole lot of mishandling while she BEGGED to have it stop. She kept trying to leave while her ignorant human pinned her, teaching her CHILD UTTER DISRESPECT of another, living being. This is why children make up the largest percentage of dog bites usually in the face.
However, this EXCLLENT DOG threw a huge scare into the humans with her ritualistic, no physical damage done, behavior.
What really chaffs me is now this dog will be labeled dangerous around children which couldn't be farther from the truth. This dog exhibited EXCELLENT restraint in a situation that, quite often, ends tragically.
Hope this dog finds a home where she is truly appreciated. ❤

"Finally, physical punishment teaches an animal nothing except how to avoid punishment, and scientific evidence shows that even though the immediate results of punitive training can be impressive, it’s associated with an overall increase in behavior problems. Positive training, on the other hand, both reduces those problems in the long run and strengthens the bond between pets and their owners.

In the end, the popularity of punitive training may reveal more about the individuals who favor it than about the value of the methods themselves. Some people, it seems, are always in need of instant gratification, and punitive training has the edge there. Other people simply have a predilection for administering physical punishment. Perhaps experiences early in life play a role. According to an internal audit by the New York Association of Dog Trainers, 14 of 17 members admit they were abused as children. A typical way of dealing with that kind of history is to become controlling, so that the same thing will never happen to you again.

One thing is for sure, though: if you use punishment to achieve an end, punishment or the threat of it will be necessary to maintain whatever gains you may have made. And who would want their companion to relate to them based on fear of retribution? The way forward is clear. Just say no to physical punishment, and the world of dogs, at least, will be a better place.
